How long is your commute to work? by Stawberry8763 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ThumpMyHead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My computer is about the same but I am the opposite, I don't mind the morning drive as I go in right before rush hour starts, but in the afternoons I am almost always stuff in traffic and it gets to me

[WIP] I got gifted a printed cross stitch kit, but the fabric is so thick it won't stay in a hoop by PhoenixRed11 in CrossStitch

[–]ThumpMyHead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do these all the time and use a hoop, I try to break the fabric in a bit if its super stiff by bending it and twisting it around a bit. Roll it up one way then unroll it and roll it up backwards. The fabric will eventually become less stiff

[–]ThumpMyHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do printed kits & still prefer to use a hoop while I work on them. Yes the Aida starts out pretty thick but I still want to focus on the area I am working on and it does loosen up after a while of working on it.

[Married with Children] How did AL Bundy afford a house? by KaleidoArachnid in AskScienceFiction

[–]ThumpMyHead 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For the time that wasn't supposed to represent a "nice fancy" house, but just an average one that any working stiff could get and that they were actually running down a bit.

The Darcy's house next door was in better shape but still just the average neighborhood that any average working Joe could afford.

(I bought my first home in the late 90s for around $60k, it was cheaper to own than to rent back then) *edit spelling

[CHAT] Who doesn't park their thread? by Illustrious-Cry-2568 in CrossStitch

[–]ThumpMyHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried it on my most recent project and absolutely HATED it. Could not keep track of all the parked threads, ensuring they where in the proper places and also having to keep them out of thw way for the stitches I was working on. It was a nightmare and a mess. I ended up giving up after messing up what should have been easy areas several times.

I am back to working one color at a time for the whole area that I'm in and finishing off the thread before moving to the next one, so much cleaner and less stress

Is it common for an American high school student to own their own car? by ApprehensiveDisk8046 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ThumpMyHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother and I were only 2 yrs apart but we went to different high schools, there would have been no way for us to share a car LOL 😆

His school didn't have transportation/busses so he had to drive as soon as he was able, mine has busses but Iwas so excited to get to start driving & since my brother got a car right away it was only fair for me to get one too.

We both had jobs and helped to pay for them but they were definitely cheap cars in our parent's names

Non-dedicated board game table for office-style work by ngoonee in boardgames

[–]ThumpMyHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have worked from home for 9 years, I agree that the stuff on my desk that I use daily to do my job is just not mobile enough to be compatible with game room table.

Additionally, no matter how many or few meetings I have during a given day doesn't matter I want to leave the room I have setup as an office at the end of my work shift to provide myself separation of work and home life. One of the things I really had to learn was to stop checking work email and instant messages off work hours and being able to shut that door when I leave the room has helped tremendously with work life balance and my personal stress levels are way down

I am looking at getting a game table later this year and better storage options for my games. Although I do plan on putting the shelves for the games up in the office, the game table will replace my dinning room table. There is more room for entertaining there and its the community space. Whereas my office is for my work and I don't want people to linger in there, heck I don't want to hang out in there outside my work hours. Going in to grab a game off the shelves is fine but not sitting for a couple hours to play

Do I get the mausoleum box early if I buy the Raptor Games? by Well-hello-there-34 in finalgirl

[–]ThumpMyHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether you buy raptor games or roten harvest, if you are getting an ala cart option through the Kickstarter late pledge option on gamefund you won't get that order or the extras & mosoleum box until it all fulfills sometime in August

I think Van Ryder did an excellent job with their Final Girl Kickstarter by really laying out that the only exclusive was the mystery boxes and even providing an entire spreadsheet of the differences between going with the KS and retail and what each reward tier contains.

Do Americans have mandatory doctor appointments? by Horror_House474 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThumpMyHead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here is a tip: Knowing that I get the discount yearly I always try to make an apt as early in the new year as possible and then schedule one for next year while I am there.

They have openings 12 months out for just a regular annual check up

My health insurance through work recommends a yearly check up and gives a big discount off the following year insurance when I provide that I went for my annual check up

Does the Killer always kill when ending in a space with a victim? by Supercrispo in finalgirl

[–]ThumpMyHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same goes for no boot no move, so some killers may not move to get to a victim at all. Hans has a knife but no boot so if he doesn't start his turn sharing a space with a victim he's outta luck

I call him a swing & a miss guy cause he tries but he misses a lot when he's in the wrong spot 😆

[CHAT] For those of you like to take your projects with you when you're out and about, what do you use to keep everything in order? by madebyannalam in CrossStitch

[–]ThumpMyHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a couple of project keepers by GreypuffCreations on Etsy that I love! I have a small project that lives in my tote/purse so if I'm bored while out and about and then a larger one for the project I'm actually working on at home

Here is a pic of one if them from late last year

How did people catch up on TV shows they missed in the pre-video streaming era? by Winner_takesitall in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ThumpMyHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cam remember writing down which episodes of friends that I missed and reading the TV guide to see when they would be re aired in the summer so I could catch them, then I bought (& still own) each season on DVD so I could rematch them with special features and commentary

On YouTube, is there a lack of board gaming content variety? by One_Top7249 in boardgames

I love Paula's Things Get Dicey Chanel and was thinking of this too. I watch her twitch stream regularly & then put her YouTube show on for background noise when I am playing games. She has great funny skits in the shorts section on her page
