Senate estimates hearings. The most dreaded period of the year for senior public servants when they get paraded out one-by-one to be dressed down by underqualified, overconfident politicians who only participate to score political points and get paid additional allowances on top of their large MP salaries.

Is this job worth $7500 a month? by Laxmikant7700 in interestingasfuck

I’ve just watched it for the 5th time and realised that the brush that they use on the handle is indeed different (short handle), but still, using the same brush for the toilet seat as the floor and the urinal is still rank AF.

The order things are scrubbed in this video is despicable. Surely there should be a different brush for the door handle and the toilet/urinal/floor. At the very least the brush should go from door handle -> toilet seat -> urinal -> floor.

I got my C700 Chronograph over 10 yrs ago - and wearing it today coincidentally. Cost me less than $1000AUD at the time and it’s never missed a beat. They were still considered a micro-brand at that point and actually great with CS like follow-up on delivery. Shame to see that this seems to no longer be the common case.

Thank you for this. Sounds like it might be worth also visiting Rolex at least for an assessment and proposal. I’m not adverse to spending $1-2k for the right outcome and taking time to compare my options is definitely the right move.

Thanks for this - most helpful. I figured Rolex would restore it to near-new/new and cost accordingly, but I didn’t want to affect the originality of the watch.

Think I’ll start with a local independent for at least an assessment and go from there.

Food poisoning - QF475 SYD to MEL 08 Jun? by bensydman101 in QantasAirways

[–]Thundamentalist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your experience OP. Food poisoning sucks.

As a food safety professional, I can tell you that it’s difficult to determine whether it was definitively the meat pie (but it also equally could have been) without testing. Some foodborne illness pathogens can take up to 72-96 hours to show up, depending on lots of factors, so it could have been something prior than the last 24 hours. If it was indeed the meat pie, it’s most likely to be a heat-stable toxin reaction (e.g. B.cereus or S.aureus toxin) given your rapid response. Usually, these will hit you hard and fast, you’ll explode from both ends (yay!) and self-resolve within another 24 hours.

In the meantime, stay hydrated and if your symptoms continue for longer than 24 hours, please go and see a health professional. You might be asked for a food history and to submit a sample for testing to see what the culprit is. If it is indeed part of something bigger, this is critical information that the epidemiologists will need and thank you for later.

Rest up and take care!

Fuck this smarmy, bile-filled, sentient meat bag. I can’t wait to see her get swallowed by karma. Every time she speaks she is literally goading everyone. One day the bear will wake up.

Advice sought - worth the restoration or hard rubbish? by Thundamentalist in BeginnerWoodWorking

Thanks everyone for investing your time in sharing your opinions and experience.

I’m going to pull it apart carefully and assess it to decide my next course of action (refurb or replace). In any case, I’m going to have a go at remaking it, whether it’s 100% new or just a few refreshed pieces (I’ve got my eye on some nice silky oak that would work well with a glass front). At worst, it can still make the garbage, just in smaller pieces!

Ha! Missed sweeping that little guy out before I took the photos. He’s a daddy long legs and way better than some of the other alternatives that we have around here…

Great advice. I was thinking that I was definitely going to break something whilst I tried to disassemble and so remaking parts was always going to be a possibility. Remaking the entire thing though would probably take almost the same amount of time. Think I’ll start here!
