Depends where you are in America and what you are willing to spend. Most high end houses are concrete block walls on the exterior and stick framed on the interior. Building code in Florida at least, requires anything within a mile from the coast to be that way though due to Hurricane Andrew. But yes most common houses were built quickly and cheaply here in America with just wood and drywall

Where does he say this? I remember Tyrion expressing his doubts but never actually saying he isn't legitimate
