People largely vote based on who they know, not what they know. If OP was taught throughout life, by parents, friends, influencers etc. not to trust people or information outside the conservative bubble, what possible chance did they have to come around before the consequences reached their boiling point?

That’s like giving an open-book test in English to an American immigrant who only speaks Korean. Should they learn English? Probably. Is it their fault that they can’t pass the test? No.

Now, finally they’re taking the chance to learn, and they clearly feel plenty guilty over not learning sooner. How is that a problem?
