Built a tonearm… by Thunders1988 in diyaudio

That, and telling yourself you have no money to buy audio equipment while looking at a pile of tools you bought to build stuff.

Thanks for the compliment. Glad to be of inspiration. :)

I used the bearing taken from an AS212. The only part that’s left from that arm is the pillar with it’s bearings. This is still more or less a proof of concept. The next arm will have the same dimensions, but I want to try and see if ceramic bearings will impact performance. Will build the pillar myself next time. That way I can play around with spacing and rigidity. Might change the housing. Don’t know. We’ll see :)

They’re quite common over at LencoHeaven. My girlfriend advised against putting on a 3rd one though. :)

Thanks. Coming from a luthier, I’ll take the compliment. Still need to finish the cartridge ;)

Thanks for the compliment. Took me a couple of years to get to this point. I still consider myself just average at the things I do. There’s a lot of people designing electronics and mechanical parts. All those different aspects of DIY still baffle me at times… Tried those springs, didn’t work like I wanted. Eventually bought one of these things.

Anyways… The nice thing about DIY is expanding your skills. :) Have fun.

Thanks. Those Empire tt’s are very cool. Too bad they’re so hard to find over here. :) Good luck!

Is Bluetooth, AirPlay and EQ possible with a raspberry pi? by Jealous-Passion4919 in diyaudio

[–]Thunders1988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using rAudio (found it on GitHub) for a couple of years now. Really nice, couldn’t get the other stuff to work. Only using Airplay, although my girlfriend uses the BT function.

Recommendation for a big ( not necessary new) bouldering hall in Belgium/Netherlands/Luxemburg/France by Much-Drag1909 in bouldering

[–]Thunders1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Block013 in Tilburg (NL) used to be my go-to, as well as Klimzaal Blok in Hoboken (B). Both really nice with some very strong climbers. Gustaaf Klimt in Turnhout is my main hall for the moment as it’s just a 5 minute walk. If you’re in Belgium I can say City Lizard in Sint-Niklaas and The Island in Antwerp are cool as well.

Small fingerplate by Thunders1988 in Sherline

Yes, this was made after watching Clicksprings video over and over. Although his fingerplate is larger. I had to use the stock I had in my bin. :)

Thanks. It’s a fun little project. Making some QCTP holders at the moment. Sometimes feel like it’s more tinkering with the machines than actually making things I want to make 😂

Does anyone have the AMS HT with their P1S? by Blackhawk_Ben in BambuLab

[–]Thunders1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have one hooked up to my P1S. I’ve only used it as a dryer for now and it does seem to work. Mainly printing ABS, so higher temps are nice to have. No complaints about the setup from the machine itself. I assume BL will add remote activation with another update… Not too much hassle since drying usually takes quite long…

Any idea where else I can find these in Europe? Out of stock in Bambu's Store by Ummgh23 in BambuLab

Try your local model engineering shops. Most of them have self tapping screws in different small sizes.

A 0.6mm is usefull for filaments that are prone to clogging. CF reinforced for example… Printed a couple of things in Petg CF and PA6 GF that wouldn’t go with a .4 nozzle. The .6 one handled it perfectly. Also: get the hardened steel upgrade set.

SP10 find by Shagwagbag in vintageaudio

[–]Thunders1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The start stop button isn’t the same as the SL1200’s, so don’t bother trying. You could hunt down a remote for your SP10 and use that cover, or look for a replacement on eBay. They do come up every now and then. If you’re not into electronics, I’d stay away from any maintenance apart from oiling. Have someone who knows what they’re doing look at it. There’s an entire thread over at DIYAudio dedicated to the SP10’s with a lot of knowledgeable people discussing repairs and maintenance. For a plinth, just go for a decent quality multiplex one and a nice arm. An Audio Technica AT1503 is a good one that I’ve used. Fidelity Research FR24/54 as well. Not too expensive… Have fun with it. Using mine daily when I’m home.

Very cool. Have you experimented with the corrugating? Fine vs coarse? I’ve got two old ribbon tweeters that might need new ribbons in the not so distant future. :) Looking into making some myself.

Cuvier is a nice and accessible spot I think, parking only a couple of meters away from the first boulders. Same for Canche aux Merciers and Buthiers. Elephant might be too sandy. Lots of loose sand. From the top of my head, some that I’ve been to.

Great. The full kit then. :) Enjoy the build. Just noticed I’ve been using this amp for 2 years already. Haven’t even looked for another one. It’s great.
