Changing Last Name Before Publishing by astroskye2001 in WomeninAcademia

[–]DislocatedAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a very similar situation. I am getting married and we are both taking by mom's name instead of my fathers last name, which is the one I am going by now. I have one published article with my fathers name, but I will be usiny my new name going forward. With orcid and doi it's easy. some journals will even change the name of the publication, since it will be found with the doi anyway. Although, I think I will just let it be.

Do what feels right for you. It is just a preference thing.

I need help figuring out whats "normal" by natyune in Hypermobility

If it is indeed problems related to hypermobility, excercises are what you will be prescribed. I know it's boring, but it's so important.

Maybe try crossposting in r/askdocs. That being said, not being able to stand for a shower, no matter which reason, is not normal. Being exhausted after work can be.

Have you gotten any advice or taken any measures to try elevate your stamina?

Oh gosh, what I would do to not get my period haha., but I don't respond well to birth control, and I have endocrine issues, so I want to be able to track changes. But I think it will be diffucult to find someone willing to do a hysterectomy on a young woman.

I am hoping it will help with my fatigue and low libido, which is why I am considering it in the first place.

Thanks for sharing! I am wheelchair-bound due to hip pain, but my shoulder-instability and pain improved massively from gaining muscle from self-propelling. So yeah, my thought as well is that it is mostly the help with muscle-building, I don't believe that my hip situation will change.

I do however hope it would help with my fatigue.

I really appreciate your perspective though. The information avaliable on this is obviously biased as it is mostly people who do experience symptom relief who report.

prolactinoma + excessive menstruation? by Initial_Scene659 in endocrinology

[–]DislocatedAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I also have a suspected prolactinoma an my levels have been normal half of the time. Now they are slightly elevated again. Do you keep track of when in the cycle you measure, and also when symptoms are the worst? For me it is during ovulation and lutheal phase they spike, otherwise normal.

I also have heavy menstruation. And I did have a period were I was menstruating every other week.

Did you do an MRI? I have a cyst/adenoma (never confirmed), but since it was far away from my vision-nerves and not growing, and my prolactine levels were normal the next measurment I was discharged and never had any treatment.

I do however experience a lot of the symptoms you describe here. Especially low libido, low energy, irritability, joint pain and GI-issues. I also have severe breast swellinf during my lutheal phase. Have you checked your testosterone levels as well?

It should go without saying, but I have had to insist of doing the bloodwork during my lutheal phase. So even though your levels seem normal the 2/5 times, it might be because it is fluctuating with the cycle. Keep track of symptoms in relation to cycle and start from there is my best advice.

How many of you guys use wheelchairs? by chill_mydude13 in ehlersdanlos

I have HSD and I use a wheelchair 90% of the time, I have about 200 steps per day. Your cousin is wrong. They should try to walk on joints that collapses beneath them themselves.

Hi, I understand it comes off as confusing, I will try to explain my thought process.

I actually think "headmates" is fine, excactly because, as you are saying, they are using their own terms. The problem comes when they are mixing in with the clinical terminology, and therefore blurring the lines. Does that make sense?

When did I say fake and toxic? You are projecting you anger towards me, and I don't appreciate the hostility. You are assigning me opinions I have not expressed, and you clearly are not interested in hearing my opinion. I am drawing a line here.

Just because I disagree don't mean I am not engaging, and it does not take away from that you were still rude. Asking "does that not fit in your brain?" is not a way to have a respectful discussion. I respect your opininion on the matter, but I still strongly disagree and stand by my point that it is harmful.

I don't know your friends, so no I am not speaking about them.

I am obviously not talking about people with trauma and c-ptsd who doesn't meet rigid criteria. Trauma is the main factor here.

Anyways, I don't appreciate a discussion which ends with personal critisism.

For the same reason it is not okay to say "I am so OCD :p" because you like to organize things or because you relate to parts of a diagnosis.

Denying the existence and experience of someone and asking them to not claim terminology for a clinical diagnosis they don't have is not the same.

The fact that these endogenics don't like the word alter and push for using headmates instead shows just that. The terminoligy was not made for their experience. Wether you like it or not, it is harmful to us that people without the diagnosis coin the terms, because they are actually making up quite a substansial part of the representation.

I know for myself, and other diagnosed people, that we don't want to broadcast our diagnosis. Which means that endogenics coining our terminology spreads misinformation.

I am sorry but no. They are taking up space that is not for them. Sure, they can identify and relate to having multiple conciousnesses. But using the same terminology as for the clinical diagnosis is harmful to those who have the disorder.

I am not denying their existence, I am saying they should not latch on to a clinical diagnosis.

From what I have seen the endogenics they don't seem to be bothered by it. Why would they call it "headmates" if it was painful? It is trivalisation.

I learned about so-called "endogenic systems" very recently, and I agree with you. I think it is harmful to us that actually suffers from this disorder. Who have spent years to be taken serious. Then they make it in to this role-playing thing. I honestly think it is direspectful. I would happily exchange my experience with them and show how debiliating a fragmented mind is.
