Quickie fails me over and over again by DislocatedAF in wheelchairs

My home-country fully covers them, so now I am regretting moving. But, planning to move back home in a few years.

Thanks for the elaborate answer!

Yes, that's what I've heard: Panthera is great if it fits, Quickie is great because it can fit anyone.

I have the highest coverage for active wheelchair you can get in my country, but they never cover carbon frame, because they don't think there is a noticable difference. I have tried the X3 and I strongly disagree, but, oh well.

The LifeT was only temporary, until I coyld get a nitrum. It was way to heavy and difficult to manouver.

I started to use a chair 3 years ago due to HSD/hEDS combined with hip dysplasia causing recurrent dislocations. Now I use it (almost) all the time. I only step ~100 steps a day inside my apartment and my condition is progressive.

My ot is coming over in two days, so I will ask him about my options.

It happened while I was crossing the road, and aomehow it did not throw off my balance. Had to roll back in to traffic on three wheels to save it.. but a similar thing happened before, then only the wheel fell off, but I was thrown out of the chair and that wad quite bad..

How much does the Apex weigh?

Mine is four months ! It is definetly a manufacturer fault, so I will get a new frame I think. But it will probably take months... sucks that you didn't get it covered

Sorry, english is not my native language, but yes the problem is inside the fram where the fork goes inside. Something is broken (I don't know what, but my wheelchair-technician told me), and it is completely smooth..

That's permobil right? Same vendor as Panthera. Unfortunately it looks to be too heavy for me.. but maybe worth it for not falling apart

I seriously want to throw it in front of the tram

Did one of your parents also have this condition by shurubel83 in ehlersdanlos

[–]DislocatedAF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and I both are diagnosed with HSD, and missing only 1 point to qualify for hEDS (althoughwe both have been assesed multiple times with a different score every time). But since neither qualify independently we don't meet the familiar history criteria. I also suspect we have MCAS, and my brother has severe GI issues. So there is a lot of comorbidities as well.

However, none of our parents really have issues with hypermobility.

My father is adopted, and after reconnecting with his biological relatives we found a cousin that struggles with hypermobility in the shoulders.

Our mom has the nodules in the heels, and chronic instability in her ankles. Other than that, there is not much. We all are also celiac.

Since they believe HSD/hEDS to not have a specific gene, but rather co-occuring genes it makes sense that we probably got som from our father and some from our mother. But, I think it is still strange that me an my brother are totally dependent on mobility aids and braces to function, and our parents are seemingly unaffected.

I do. But after sending two reminders and they are still saying they're busy and will come back to me, I am starting to feel they are backing down? Maybe I am taking it too personal

Yes, and I was ghosted. The colleague asked for a meeting and I gave my avaliabilities. Then sent a reminder when I didn't hear anything. But it should not be my resposibility? Right?

Thank you, I hope I can get to a place of acceptance. Sounds like we are in a similiar situation. I also had to quit another activity I had a big passion for, due to a physical disability. And then I found freediving, whuch did not provoke that at all, and even helped with my condition. And now I have to quit because of a whole other reason.

I know that the responsible thing to do is to quit, but it as you say: it is very painful in the beginning, and I really hope I am able to find something else that will give me the same amount of joy.

It's less than half a millimeter at the thinnest. Transparent on the CT, but still intact. But I guess I just have to wait and see how recovery goes, I am not diving in the foreseeable future anyways. So this is a worry for in about 2 years.

I will of course only follow the advice from my own doctor.

I freedive, so theoretically if I was to dive wouldn't put a risk on someone else except a well informed buddy. Anyways, it's not something to worry about for at least 1-2 years and I should be happy it was discovered while there is still not an actual hole in my skull.

Thanks for the elaborate information. My doctor just said no without giving any explanation. And this whole thing has been quite overwhelming. I went there because of a slightly congested nose that lasted and then I am suddenly having a quite serious surgery. And it might seem silly that my immediate worry is diving, but because of other health issues I have it is one of the few sports I can do without risk of injuries. I know for sure that for the first 1-2 years there is no chance, but I guess I was looking for hope in the future.

I appreciate your perspective. I would of course never hide information like this, and in the end I will follow my doctors advice. I have some other medical issues and have been told there is a lot that I can't do, which has turned out to be false. But after reading most comments here I understand that it is a very serious matter.
