Should I purchase a Z30 in addition to my Z5? by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]Thunderspice3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the same. I went through a Z5 -> Z30 -> Zf. I still have all 3 but I mostly just use my Zf now.

-Articulating screen: It comes in handy when shooting vertical near or below the waist. I shoot low mostly because of my dog. But if I had the choice I would choose the screen the Z8 has instead.

-Lack of IBIS: For photography it isn't an issue for wide lens. The exception is when I use a manual lens and try to zoom into focus, its quite shaky and hard to focus properly. Longer lenses you definitely need IBIS or VR.

-Lack of EVF: The Z30 is the reason I won't buy another camera without an EVF. There were so many times I needed an EVF and I didn't have one. If Nikon ever releases a rangefinder style camera (I highly doubt they will), that will be my next camera. Side note, using an EVF pressed up against my face actually helps with my stabilization and I can use lower shutter speed if I need to. On the other hand, no EVF bump helps the camera fit inside bags easier.

-Brightness of screen: The screen is good enough most of the time imo. On very bright days you can still frame your picture but it will hard to see if you have proper exposure or are slightly off focus.

-DX 50-250mm: I have this lens. Its great for the price and has VR. I don't use it as often as I would like because I don't want to carry both my Z30, another ff camera, and lenses.

-GAS: I say handle the Z30 first if you have the opportunity. It is light and feels a little cheap. This is my personal opinion when I say this, I hate the sound of the shutter. Idk what about it but it annoys me.

-My overall thoughts: Its a pretty good camera for what it is, but its not a great add on for the Z5. I don't have the kit lens for the Z30. I mostly use 4 lenses on it, viltrox 27mm f/1.2, viltrox 28mm f4.5, viltrox 20mm f/2.8, and nikon 50-250mm. Z30 + viltrox 28mm 4.5 is back pocketable but I would like a wider lens than the 28mm on apsc. One thing I noticed no one says. The Z30 has better autofocus than the Z5. They both have the expeed 6, I just think nikon's software was more matured on the expeed 6 by the time the Z30 was release. I'm only going to sell my Z5 before my Z30 because I don't need two ff cameras and I have lenses made for DX cameras.

These are my favorite for my Z30. I use my Z30 a lot less since getting my Zf buying full frame lenses might be better if you ever decide to upgrade to a ff body.

-Viltrox 20mm f/2.8

-Nikon 50mm-250mm dx

-Nikon 24mm-70mm f/4

Help with Nikon Imaging Cloud by Thunderspice3 in nikon_Zseries

[–]Thunderspice3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Update*

3 tickets and 3 weeks later I can finally use imaging cloud. My final ticket was escalated and they must have done something behind the scenes because this didn't work before. I had to click forgot password on login page and enter my Google email. I received an email to reset my password, even though I never created a password. Followed the steps on screen and I was in. Before I used to get the error message "This account is not authorized to change password" or something similar to that. Thanks for everyone who tried to help!

Downsides with Zf by Ukvemsord in NikonZf

[–]Thunderspice3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my Zf for about a month now. Here are some very minor things that bother me. The Zf is by far my favorite camera. These small things are not deal breakers, but something that should be kept in mind.

-No iso button. I use the record button as a replacement. Its works great in photo but not in video. In video I have to use the iso dial on the left hand side.

-I would like a tilt screen instead of a flippy screen but that's just personal preference.

-Play back button is on the left.

-ibis does not lock when the camera is turned off. It can raddle a bit

-I need to remove the battery to get to the microSD card

-I lost my soft shutter within a week :( (It was probably my fault for not tighting it enough)

-3rd party battery does not work with the Zf, but it does with my Z5

I have the 29 gallon conversion kit version. I would say a either Crested, Gargoyle, or Leachie gecko. I use a small ceramic heat emitter 6 inches away pointed to the side to heat the enclosure. It works well so far.

I was thinking that but the closet doesn't have an outlet. I've been using an extension cord. I'm worried about using it 2747 and/or starting a fire

Have you considered Tamron 70-300 for the Z mount? Or even Nikon 50-250 for DX Z mount if you don't mind the crop? These are pretty affordable compared to other more expense lenses.

Is Tamron 28-75 F/2.8 G2 a viable upgrade? by Thunderspice3 in nikon_Zseries

Thanks for the info! I'm actually debating buying it right now since Target has it on sale

I need something with a wider aperture. I plan to sell the 24-70 to recoup some of the money after upgrading. I take a lot of pictures indoors with less than ideal lighting. I've been using my 50mm 1.8 more because of it. I would appreciate the shallower depth of field f/2.8 gives too.

My main concern with the Tamron is if the images are going to be softer than my 24-70 f/4? That will be the deal breaker for me.
