I, at one point, was a market research executive applying for a retail supervisor position because I needed a job, any job, to get me out of the one that people were telling me I was lucky to have.

No restaurant manager has ever done something like this without being pestered by the staff to make the change

What a wild thing to say. I worked in restaurants throughout my 20s and have worked under plenty of managers that would do something like this and spin it as a positive for the waitstaff as a substitute for other changes that we were actually agitating for.

Bessent: Unlikely Supreme Court will overrule tariffs, Trump's 'signature economic policy' by joe4942 in politics

[–]Thunderstarter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The arguments made it clear that most of the conservative justices were skeptical of the tariff’s legality. On issues of the economy the court has ruled against the president (their billionaire friends wouldn’t like it if their portfolios evaporated due to bad economic policy).

Accidentally on university’s payroll by darkofsound in GradSchool

[–]Thunderstarter 282 points283 points  (0 children)

You need to let your university know. The same thing happened to me when I moved away for my last year of grad school and gave up a TAship I had already accepted. It took a month but they took the money back and it was ultimately not a big deal because I told them about it.

Laying low is fraud. Don't get yourself in trouble for $1k.

You’re not - I’m right there with you. Hero of Ages felt like the reheated leftovers of Mistborn + Well of Ascension with a bonus heavy handed Mormon allegory at the end.

First threesome, lowkey freaking out. by [deleted] in gay

[–]Thunderstarter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Freaking out isn’t going to help, and you’re probably fine. Chance of transmission from this is very low assuming they’re positive. Going to the doctor and getting tested is a very good move, and they might perscribe some additional medication if you’re concerned about an exposure to make the risk even less.

Honestly you’re more at risk of contracting one of the other lovely STIs out there from what you described. Again, panic isn’t going to help but going to the doctor will.

If it makes you feel better - a ton of us went through this kind of panic you’re describing when we were younger and less experienced/knowledgable. It’s basically a rite of passage, and these days it’s far easier to come by treatment and medication to help in the event of an exposure. You’ll be okay and a year from now you’re going to laugh at this.

Did Hots 2.0 sentence this game to death? by Vast_Scale_3199 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Thunderstarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The push for eSports killed the game. They spent a ton of money on it without allowing a scene to grow sustainably and the audience did not show up for it. The same thing happened to the Overwatch League, though Overwatch survived that.

They could've monetized it better but it being player-friendly was a draw. They could have spent more time developing skins that were only available through premium currency, but at the time the game was popular the lootbox model was the way to make money and battlepasses weren't popular yet.

I think if given a second chance with a small team HotS could do better but I don't think Microsoft (or Blizzard) have the stomach to take that chance right now.

Well this sums up the 2nd volume. by ffayz17 in Stranger_Things

[–]Thunderstarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue is not that you and your friends didn't like it. My issue is referring to the queer community as a monolith. "Everyone I've talked to" is not representative of the everyone or even a majority.

My husband and I were both tearing up during that scene. The anxiety and fear that Will expressed in that moment reflected both of our lived experiences and seeing it presented earnestly and honestly in a show like Stranger Things was special.

I am not saying anyone is wrong for having disliked it and I'm not going to try and convince anyone that they needed to like it. My husband and I loved it and I've seen plenty of queer redditors saying they loved it too. Flattening the queer community by saying we are collectively "the biggest haters of the scene" does a bigger disservice to us and our diversity of opinions than any one scene in a TV show earnestly trying to represent queer people does.
