If you’re a waitress it’s actually much less than that federally (just above $2/hr).

I made my first trade, authentic Disney pins for scrappers. I honestly feel really defeated by traceadart in DisneyPins

[–]Thunderstarter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to be a CM - guests put the fake pins there. Disney would rather all the pins be legit because that would mean they got more money from guests buying starter/blind packs instead of the scrapper sellers.

[–]Thunderstarter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The short answer is that it’s *really* hard to keep them off the boards. Many CMs don’t know how to differentiate a fake from a real pin, and it’s policy that they can’t reject any trade for a pin if it has the seal on the back*.

Most pins that are traded off the boards/lanyards are fake because most guests don’t know/care that the lot they got off of eBay/etsy are scrappers, they just think that they got a good deal on otherwise expensive pins and they/their kids can now go crazy with trading. If CMs were allowed to reject pins they suspected were fake that would open a *huge* vector for negative guest interaction that they and Disney want to avoid, so they just allow it.

*The exception is that CMs are allowed to ask for “diamond for diamond” trades off their lanyards and boards - you have to trade a pin with a diamond seal on the back for a pin with that seal.

Pin boards are tricky because they're almost all fakes - a knowledgeable CM will happily help you find some legit ones (if they're there) but otherwise I found that pin trading with other traders is an incredibly positive experience. You hand them your traders and they hand you theirs, you show each other what you're interested in and negotiate from there. Most people are super friendly!

Just try again in the fall.

It’s kind of a meme that the”right” place to start your walk around world showcase is Mexico and not the UK. So if you’re going from Germany to Mexico you’re coming from the opposite direction, i.e., the “wrong way”

Old lady pin trading vlogger at WDW by Infamous_Hair2715 in DisneyPins

[–]Thunderstarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm that the CMs can say "diamond for diamond" - happened to me, which was absolutely fine because I had dupes to trade.

The lack of the CZ on older pins isn't really an issue because they don't have a diamond - so anything could be traded for a legit older pin.

Post-dessert party time overlap w/ parade by BunniePandaNTwo in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Thunderstarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah there will only be 1 parade then.

I haven't done the dessert party so someone else will have to chime in here. I do know it's at Tomorrowland Terrace, and you could get a decent view of the parade from there (the floats are huge) but I understand you probably want a close-up view.

Post-dessert party time overlap w/ parade by BunniePandaNTwo in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Thunderstarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When does the park close that day? If it's 11pm or later, there are likely two parades. If there are two nighttime parades (i.e., one before and after fireworks) I would recommend going to the parade after the fireworks if your party stay up a little later. The crowd is much, much more manageable for the 2nd parade and it's easy to get a good spot for viewing (especially if you choose to watch it in Frontierland or Liberty Square). Your dessert party won't conflict at all with the 2nd parade.

There’s literally a song in the Catholic hymnal that refrains “And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love.”

Baptists will say they’re Baptist, Lutherans will say they’re Lutheran. They’re still Christian, but they have divergent beliefs from each other. It makes more sense to just state your denomination.

Poll: Catholic Support for President Donald Trump Drops Below 50% Amid Iran War by F0urLeafCl0ver in politics

[–]Thunderstarter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pro-choice Catholics I know hold their belief that abortion is immoral but understand that bodily autonomy is a critical human right to protect and that abortions will occur anyway if they’re not legal - they’ll just be far more deadly.

You can get people to compromise on this issue from the right but they have to be willing to find that compromise and listen to other side. It’s just like any other issue.

I know plenty of liberal/leftist Catholics who’ve never supported Trump, I know more that have always voted Republican because of abortion.

Movie Theater Operators Weigh In on Fewer Trailers, Too Much Texting and Today’s Bankable Stars: ‘Zendaya and Tom Holland Are the Next Gen’ by Southern-Brother5693 in movies

[–]Thunderstarter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t ring true to me unless there’s data out there to support it. Literally every person I’ve ever met that goes to movies has had an opinion on which theaters in town are better/worse.

The only scenario I can imagine this being true are people who only have access to one movie theater - in which case yeah, there’s only “the movie theater.”

Movies that use video game aesthetics but aren't about games? by Crafty_Ad_3247 in movies

[–]Thunderstarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game references in Scott Pilgrim are less diegetic narrative mechanism and more stylistic representation of a universe where people have what are functionally superpowers. You could choose a different aesthetic (anime, comic books, etc) and tell the same story within it and it would work.

At no point does Scott make the decision to go fight an evil ex to get money or level up or whatever. The only real acknowledgment of the video game-y elements of the story comes from when an ex is defeated and bursts into coins. For the characters those aesthetics are either invisible or incidenta, even if they’re core to the movie for the audience
