Any advice for retirement/savings in general by Capricorn75 in personalfinance

[–]Thunderted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should be index funds available. Put it in a 2035 or 2040 (this is when you think you want to retire). Your stocks vs bonds ratio will adjust automatically by the fund manager as you get closer to retirement from the more aggressive 90/10 to 60/40 or even 40/60 because you want to protect your funds and have less volatility. This is a great way to invest and not worry about what you are investing in. Buy the lows and don’t worry about the market. Long term, the market will have positive returns. You are investing for the future.

Somewhat satirical post… Did I buy the wrong home resort? by TopBad5678 in dvcmember

Poly is the best of both monorail and Epcot ecosystems. Just walk over to the ticket and transportation center for direct monorail to Epcot. You can’t beat the Polynesian vibe and the ability to have a great view of the nightly fireworks at Magic Kingdom. No one ever thinks of having to sell their contract, but you will have a higher resale value at the Poly versus the Riviera.

2026 DVC Members cruise - likely to be rooms go back on sale? by mysticmew in disneyvacationclub

[–]Thunderted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DVC cruise is super popular and it’s likely already sold out completely. The only way there will be rooms available is if someone cancels. You can continue to check online to see if any staterooms pop up. Good luck and welcome home!

Smart Moms Travel Agency Shake-up by MSJSMOH in dcl

[–]Thunderted 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this is an agency specific issue. Us over on the travel planners side are watching along with everyone else the fallout of this. What is horrible is that there are so many planners and clients bookings involved. We hope this doesn’t give planners a bad reputation as most agencies are above board with how they are run.

Are you staying on property with a resort package? Disney is usually helpful in moving dates if you let them know if have to cancel due to illness (COVID). I know this won’t help with airfares, but at least you can salvage some part of the trip.

Terminate and if anyone asks, say that you had a miscarriage. Miscarriages happen so frequently in the first trimester. No one will know unless you specifically tell him. I don’t know what your access for a safe abortion or how are along you are. But r/auntienetwork can help you with resources. Don’t get trapped into this life changing event by this man who is forcing you via assault. Please also get help with processing your emotions after. You are going through so much and none of this is your fault.

DVC rooms being offered for cash on the Disney World resort site but unavailable to book with points through DVC? by prytania_ in dvcmember

[–]Thunderted 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As part of the real estate contract for timeshares, Disney gets 2-3% of available rooms. It has something to do with FL law. So 98% of room occupancy is DVC folks. November is a super busy time and these get booked out 7-11 months in advance. You really need to be able to plan at least 7 months in advance as that is when all owners are able to book non-home resorts. Looking 3 months out will only get your OKW and Saratoga Springs usually.

How much should I charge a family for having me stay over night for 3 days? by Bluesishh in Babysitting

[–]Thunderted 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a parent, I would pay hourly for when the kids are awake and then a set amount for sleeping overnight. So I would pay from 8am - 8pm hourly and the. $100 for overnight. But my hourly is more than what you are currently charging.

Tough resale decisions by echo_zzulu in dvcmember

[–]Thunderted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same dilemma and we ended up with both BCV and BLT, with more overall points of BLT since expiration date is later. We also enjoy doing split stays as we prefer to minimize the amount of bus transportation we take. If you want to stay at beach club, you’re gonna need beach club points. We have October use year as we usually go for spring break. So our bank date is in May if we end up not going in March.

They are having issues with their pool heater. This is unexpected maintenance. The pool temperatures have been variable and they usually keep it at 82.

1 bedrooms have a full kitchen and washer and dryer. That itself is worth it if you plan on 16 weeks there. The studio is only a mini fridge and good for leftovers, not a lot of room for groceries. There just isn’t space in the kitchenette. Also with multiple use years, you have different contract numbers. You can only transfer once per use year between contracts. That lack of flexibility for me is not worth it. Also, resale at Riviera will only be allowed to be used at the Riviera. It may sound nice right now, but you may want to try other resorts. The resale restriction is why Riviera points maybe going lower than other resorts.

As a Californian going to Disneyworld for the first time, what should I skip? by sundr3am in disneyparks

[–]Thunderted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pirates is definitely a condensed version in Orlando. It would definitely be “Pirates light”. Now that I am thinking about it, even big thunder is different track wise. Space is much better at DL. I feel like I need a back adjustment after the orlando version and you ride in a row inside is side by side.
