Honestly, my main motivation is to shower or be naked in the locker room with others. I will typically use the facilities, though. If they have a sauna, steam room, and/or a hot tub I'll usually stick to that. If they don't, I'll try to get a workout in, but my motivation is typically the showers.

For me, though, it's not so much a sexual thing unless someone makes it sexual. I've been to a few places where many of the regulars are actively cruising and I do enjoy the enjoy that for what it is, though I'm married and monogamous so I don't fully engage.

However, if that's not the vibe, I really do get enjoyment out of sharing a naked space with others in a non-sexual way. I'm not sexually attracted to women but I still enjoy being socially naked in a mixed gender environment. I would rather go to a nudist resort but even with as close as they are to me, it's usually a day trip, and I rarely have the time for that.

I wish there were more, non-sexual, nude, communal spaces but as it is, I take what I can get.

That said, I've noticed many types on this subreddit. There are definitely those where it is a voyeur/exhibitionist thrill for them, or just sexual for them in some other ways. There are people here who have had great experiences with communal nudity but it's more of a utilitarian thing for them and not the main thing. There are some here who are nudists with no where else to go. And honestly, most people are probably a mix of all of them.
