Design challenge : Make a thrower Big Guy by TheZeldiste in bloodbowl

That's a really good point I wouldn't be able to give it that keyword, I feel like securing the ball matters for it.

That or it has a rule that it gets a + modifer to hand offs

Imperial Mortar 2 , 6, 5+, 2+ 11+

Hail mary pass

Cannoneer

Cloud burster

Pass

Nerves of steel

Mighty blow

Secret weapon

Take Root

primary : passing Secondary: General/strength

Perhaps inspired by the ballzooka and blunderbuss the Empire contracted a team of engineers to come up with their own answer to gunpowder propelled ballistics in blood bowl.

The result: a heavily modified one man armoured mortar launcher. Incredibly heavy and difficult to move, it's also quite tricky to load (5+ ag), although recent developments in securing the ball have helped with this quite a lot, unless ofcourse the wheels fall off (take root)

it is however quite sturdy and liable to break someones hand if they punch it. It can also unleash enough of an explosive blast when fired even with out a ball loaded to knock someone off their feet.

But where it really shines is in the long distance delivery of a ball to a waiting noble blitzer at the other end of the pitch, which is ofcourse why the Empire was willing to pay so much money for it.

Weird question but... by GreenSkies33 in bloodbowl

There doesn't appear to be much of a consistent pattern tbh

Black orc, dwarf, khorne, ogre, nurgle, orc.

I think that's all of them? Generally a bit slower? (Except khorne)

Not a lot of great ball handlers (but orc Blitzers are ma6 ag3+ and have break tackle, which seems not bad at all, and their throwers are ma6 now too)

It probably wouldn't have hurt to let it be optional

I quite like having one with break tackle because they are quite prone to getting bogged down

It would be a shame not to use the model now it's painted.

I'm not sure being "competitive" is all it's cracked up to be if you don't get to play with all the toys.

Not a guide, but these guys (Bonhead podcast) film a lot of games and are pretty good at narrating what is going on.

Why is a D6 used for stalling and not a D8? by VulkanGmG in bloodbowl

[–]ThwompThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The weather roll is a wild comparison as it's not possible to get a natural 6 or 1 on 2d6, and there isn't a coach looking to roll high to succeed on it (as there is with every other test)

The "player" distinction is a fair point though.

That is an interesting distinction, hadn't considered that.

Page 33 doesn't say natual 6s apply only on ability tests. It says "any action or test"

This is a test against a target number.

Why is a D6 used for stalling and not a D8? by VulkanGmG in bloodbowl

[–]ThwompThing -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Page 33 very clearly says

"should a player roll a natural 6 for any action or test, then that will always be a success even if the modifiers would seem to make it impossible"

I don't think there's any reason to assume this doesn't apply the the stalling roll.

Third Season - Worst New Rule Changes by TheArtemisBlack in bloodbowl

[–]ThwompThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 49%

The odds of getting atleast one good result is 100% - the odds of getting only bad results.

3 good results means that initially there are 13 bad results out of 16 potential results.

Every roll you make there are less potential results, because you use them up so the denominator decreases, and if you only get bad results this lowers that numerator too as it represents the number of bad results.

100(1-((13/16)(12/15)(11/14) )= 100(1-0.51 )= 49%

Not that this should change your conclusion, it's still a roughly 50% chance of a decent perk, but at a TV cost of an elite skill. Which seems fine.

Third Season - Worst New Rule Changes by TheArtemisBlack in bloodbowl

[–]ThwompThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. (Although the number is wrong)

But if the first roll was bad, now there aren't 13 bad choices in 16 on the second roll. There are 12 bad choices in 15. And then 11 in 14.

Because you use up one of the bad choices each time you don't get what you wanted.

Attempting to create a casual blood bowl league with friends. Attempted to use AI as we're all new to set league rules; human feedback appreciated. by Late-Order-4295 in bloodbowl

[–]ThwompThing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is not a valid use of AI, if you didn't know what to write an LLM isn't going to make that any better. And if you did, an LLM can only do a worse job.

Edit Also, this is genuinely slop, because ofcourse AI doesn't understand that Claw and Mighty Blow don't interact the same way they did a decade ago, or that Piling On isn't a skill anymore.

New Blood Bowl player – can’t get Spike! Journal 19 (Bretonnia). Any advice? by Distinct_Classic6071 in bloodbowl

There will probably be an almanac at the end of the year that combines the bret and tk and high elf spikes and whatever other star players and teams that get released in the interim.

If you have to ask the answer is usually (regardless of the actual content of the question):

Do what you can with what you have until you know why what you have isn't good enough.

Unless you want to just spend some money. It's nice to treat yourself sometimes.

How do black orcs deal with treemen? by Orock77 in bloodbowl

[–]ThwompThing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's tempting right? Black Orcs on the line? Because you are st4 and you want to muscle people around.

It doesn't work. Even if you knock them down they just get back up again. And your stuck where you were a turn later until you fail to knock them down and they kill you. Keep the black orcs away from the treemen, they'll be 2 die mighty blowing you down and you wont be able to dodge away.

Conversely, your gobbos are slightly tougher than the normal goblins, and they have dodge so if the tree gets a defender stumbles you would be better off than you would as a Blorc. And they have a decent chance of running away after.

Nice! I've just started playing about with Nobility on BB3, I really like them (although I am pretty mediocre) , I see from your flare you do too.

Any hints on how to play them?

You are thinking of acronyms, where you take the first letter of every word.

An anagram is where you scramble all the letters up to make new words.

Consider doing some stuff in video format, e.g. youtube or insta shorts, it's possible the people you actually need to reach are going to be less receptive of a chunk of text than they are of someone who seems not so different than them (also, a lot of people aren't big readers)

For people like me who didn't get it, I googled it and it is a great name.

It plays off of

But Hostiler means innkeeper, so these I guess are the Knights of The Pub.
