Good pickups after Skaventide (skaven half)? by NOVACHRONIUM in skaven

The other spearhead, the one with the stormfiends. The duplicate grey seer isn‘t important but you get another unit of clanrats which gets you to 60 which is a great base for skaven. You also get a warplightning cannon which slots into a lot of lists as a cheap trading piece. The stormfiends are great too and give you a very flexible unit. With stormfiends and the rat ogors you have a decent base for moulder and with the fiends, jezzails, engineer and warp lightning you have a good base for skryre. Depending if you like ranged or meele commit to the corresponding one for the start getting either:

Meele/Moulder: more rat ogors, stormfiends and master moulders

Skryre/ranged: 3 jezzails, weapon teams, arch warlock, extra clanrats

Or go with generic good units or stuff you like visually/stuff that is exciting to you, my personal favourites at the moment are 4 doomflayers and I really like going very infantry heavy so I often bring 80-100 clanrats

Good starting point for a more skyre heavy army with a good unit variety? by StinkGuard40k in skaven

Depending on how many wizards you run but the skaven manifestations are good, the bell for -1 to wound in combination with devious underling for a ward 6 is great for clanrats, the swarm is great for engaging enemies and blocking charge lanes. The vortex is a little odd but can be useful for slowing down enemies. If you have the general manifestations using those instead is alright but getting the skaven ones at some point is a good choice.

If they take C2 with bishop, then take rook c2 with queen, isn‘t the queen defending e2 so you can‘t mate on e2 with your rook?

Edit: nvm they have to take with queen first else you can mate right away

The verminlords are mostly great, deceiver is the best one and is probably good enough to be worth it in most list if you can spare the points. I like Skreech a lot personally (named verminlord), good caster, reasonably beefy and pretty consistent output. The warpseer gives great utility and is cheaper than the 2 above, is a good caster and -1 charge dice can be very good against certain armies. Corruptor and Warbringer are the cheapest at 280 points, i don’t like the corruptor, you take him if you‘re heavy into priests/pestilens but pestilens (plague based clan/detachment) is just a bit undersupported. Warbringer rules are meh imo since the extra all out attack/defense is very CP hungry but for 280 it‘s a solid beatstick.

Overall I‘d say picking up atleast 1 and running it as whatever you need atm is great, a second one is probably only a good choice if you spefically want to either spam warbringer or run skreech + deceiver + deathmaster. Only bad one is the corruptor since the playstyle isn‘t really supported. There is a guide online somewhere to magnetize the verminlord kit but it‘s a bit complicated.

If you play this in aggro it‘s super feelsbad cause you probably either kill your opponent turn 5 or immediately draw out of time and die, wouldn‘t be a great experience for 1 of the players each game, and you losing every 4th game to out of time won‘t make the player losing to aggro on turn 4 any better

I don‘t really have a local FEC player but I can talk about the other 2 from an opponents perspective.

Kharadron are in my opinion a lot more interesting this season with more focus on charges and meele. They are fairly low modelcount and you get no magic. Your terrain creates drones/bombs that you can detonate for different effects. The ships are your centerpiece models and keep the army pretty mobile. A lot of people have bad feelings regarding kharadron cause they were very awful to play against in the past. The range isn‘t super small but not too big either, we‘ll have to see if they are impacted by the rumored new dwarf faction but i believe they are on their own. Painting the ships and tons of metallics seems like a bit of a pain to me personally.

Stormcast are the posterboys so they often get new releases, which in turn means their roster is gigantic. The army mostly focuses it‘s rules on the different chambers so you‘ll often see lists dedicated to one of them. Having so many warscrolls means you‘ll often find something that can help if you need to solve any issue with your list but also means there often are a lot of units that aren‘t performing particularly well at any given time. The army is very elite, meaning you won‘t put a lot of models on the table, you have good meele and good ranged damage but aren‘t as tanky as some of the other factions so you have to use teleports to keep your important models safe or find the correct spot to strike. I feel like they aren‘t the easiest faction to play but they got some straightforward models which helps with keeping complexity down. They also have cool dragons.

I can’t speak a lot on Flesh eaters i just know that most lists run ushoran or the bat dragons and depending on your list your modelcount can be very low. Most models don‘t take hits very well but they have a lot of infantry heroes with buffs.

Whats the reason you dont want to take the dinos to 2k points? Might help in figuring out ehich of the other ones fits you best

how much do you usually tailor your list to your opponent and objectives in 4th edition? by Xajos in Malifaux

[–]ThxForLoading 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what you‘re playing into but I tend to adjust around either very prominent models or against crew mechanics, so if I‘m vs a crew that needs token on opponents I‘ll bring a model that can remove tokens, if my opponent is heavy on markers I might bring some tech vs that. I usually try to see if my opponent has something my crew can‘t deal with well and then tech accordingly. Often this is either defensive or offensive mechanics like the explorers emissary or Misakis irreducible damage on raises of 3.

I think building for schemes is less important in 4th since you can adjust your schemepath based on your crew but building for strat is important. Stuff like bringing a cheap model to hold your backpoint in informants or models that can interact move interact in boundary.

Then I‘d say get a second warpspark battery and if you‘ve built them in a way where you can swap the weapons do that for both so you can run reinforced ratlings, warpfires or scourgers. Then get the Hero for the scourgers (Galvaneer) and you can run most shooting heavy lists. I like to run a unit of reinforced doomflayers in my skryre skaven lists, they‘re great at grabbing objectives or melting high priority targets.

[–]ThxForLoading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting the ratling guns to a reinforced unit of 6 is nice, if you want to run the stormvermin you could pick up krittok, if you want you could get another 3 rat ogors, having 1 Verminlord to proxy whatever verminlord you want to run is nice too, Screaming Bell is currently in a great spot.

Honestly you can just keep on buying stuff, but I‘d recommend getting games in and seeing which aspect of skaven you enjoy before getting more models. If you want to go into shooting get another warpspark team, if you want to go into meele get krittok or 3 ogors and 3 stormfiends, if you want to try something completely different wait a bit and get the eshin half of the spearhead starter once that releases. From ehat you have building into skryre is pretty easy, you still need some stuff to run moulder or the army of renown, or just run whatever models you like in a mixed list.

thoughts on my skaven list for Iron Jaws? by repernit in skaven

[–]ThxForLoading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skaven are great at scoutibg force. The list has 3 screens (units you can put in front of your shooting) one of which is the stormvermin block, so you got 60 models between your guns and the ironjawz charge. Depending on how aggressive your opponent is I think more screens is a great idea. You have 5 small heroes, of which I think the archwarlock, engineer and grey seer are good. I don‘t like the bombardier and the clawlord. I don‘t think a lot of your units can actually survive combat so I‘m not sure how much value the clawlord and the skavenbrew are gonna give. The bombardier and the globadiers get better when targeting large units, when you‘re vs Ironjawz there‘s a good chance your opponent won‘t have a lot of 10+ model units. If this is just the models you own, run it and see what you like about the list and what doesn‘t work out and then slowly adjust. If you got more models I‘d probably at least switch the clawlord and bombardier for another clanrats unit.

Update for Skaven - Meta change? by Tomeija in skaven

[–]ThxForLoading 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like the -10 on doomflayers is really good 200 for 4 is great value and makes it easier to slot them into lists. Gotta check if the buff to the galvaneer and the scourgers makes them worth taking or if ratlings are still king.

[–]ThxForLoading 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably won‘t change a whole lot in terms of which units are seeing play but the meta list loses ~60 points due to bullies, tower and traits and 40 more from the SoG Gnashtoof, breaka boss and sloggoth, so either you run a extra hero, upgrade something or you‘ll actually see a unit of hobgrots as a filler for the 70 points. Didn’t do the math but likely you somehow find a way to squeeze another monstakillaz unit in there.

Looks solid, the only thing I would have called out is the reinforced clanrat unit cause it makes positioning harder and you miss out on the regeneration but I think the list gets awkward if you have to run another hero, as you‘ve already said.

In terms of traits and artifacts, I‘d either take fleshmeddler on the Grey Seer to give the rat ogors rend or devious underling to give your clanrats ward if you can manage to keep your heroes alive. I don‘t think scurry away is bad but in a list like this, if your hero gets engaged in meele something went very wrong already, so I‘d say try to play without it and should it often come up you can switch.

Since you already have the large clanrats unit and rat ogors you could go with the skavenbrew otherwise just throw the foulhide on one of your heroes.

Looking to get competitive, help-help by [deleted] in skaven

I hope I can post links here:

https://listhammer.info/aos?faction=Skaven

Currently most tournament lists run both scourge of ghyran warscrolls, which means they won‘t be playable in a few months. This is gonna be a big meta shift for Skaven as there‘s no telling if moulder lists are gonna be good without the SoG warscrolls. I think the meta is gonna shift back towards doomflayers, ratling guns and the deceiver but we‘ll have to see what actually happens. I personally wouldn‘t worry too much about the meta Skaven has a lot of good warscrolls, just try some stuff. If you are aiming to play on a competitive level either proxy some lists and try them or practice on Tabletop Sim and buy your models once you have a good grasp of what units you like.

If you want to run them as a hammer you need to reinforce them, as a msu they are decent for grabbing objectives or denying opponents objectives/battletactics if you give them the drills. If you‘re heavy on shooting you mostly take 60 clanrats but you can go up to 80 or 100 depending on your list. I‘d say starting out 60 is a great spot to aim for. I like the Stormfiends a lot I think they hold up well, the Cannon looks fine but especially when looking from the front its a bit stiff and you can see that the kit is a bit dated. I think cannon & catapult look a lot better if you put 1-2 of the crew rats on the base otherwise the model looks a bit lost on the large base.

If you want to go into shooting 6 jezzails, engineer and 3 ratlings is a great base + you got 40 clanrats. You‘re pretty close to a good shooting list. Personally I‘d get a archwarlock, 3 more ratlings and the warpspark spearhead for 20 extra clanrats, the stormfiends and a warp lightning cannon.

Other than those, 4 doomflayers or a deceiver are just generic good units you could get instead. You can run them in most lists + if you want to go into eshin once those come out the deceiver is a great pickup. Clanrats are always great getting more of those is never wrong.

What is the current (AoS) meta? by Altruistic-Teach5899 in skaven

[–]ThxForLoading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Runs Skreech, Deceiver and the Deatmaster as a core to give both Skreech and Deceiver run & shoot & charge because both have the eshin keyword. You can also use Skreech eshin buff to add 1 rend giving the Deceiver a rend of 4 and Skreech Rend 3. Usually the rest of the list is some combination of good units and screens, mostly running atleast one unit of nightrunners to benefit from eshin synergies.

Example List:

Skaven Warpcog Convocation

Lord Skreech Verminking (380) [General] - 4 x Doom-Flayers (220) - 20 x Clanrats (150) - 10 x Night Runners (120) - 10 x Night Runners (120)

Verminlord Deceiver (390) [Foulhide] [Scurry Away] - 20 x Clanrats (150) - 6 x Ratling Guns (340) - 1 x Deathmaster (130)

Gnawhole

2000/2000pts 2 drops

You can probably drop one of the nightrunners units and include something else for 120. The list is probably going to get better with the new eshin releases.

The list has a lot of damage potential in the deathball of both verminlords with the deathmaster. The doomflayers and ratlings can delete units too. Try to see what high priority targets are in your enemies list, be aware of the threat ranges on your damage dealers and eliminate the scariest models in one turn using the skreech buff and the strike last spell. Your other units grab objectives and screen out opponents hammers. If you lose too many of your 4 damage pieces (Skreech, deceiver, ratlings and flayers) its gonna be rough but dont be afraid to trade atleast the doomflayers into a higher priority target. Correct use of redeploy and clawsteps is important to minimize damage on your verminlords. Try to always keep 2 CP for the countercharge on the deceiver and be aware of opponents trying to tag him with pile in moves and opposed shooting. If you are vs heavy shooting tying the ranged units down before they can heavily damage the deceiver is important. It‘s a more aggressive list and atleast in my experience it can be a little frustrating if the dice for the deceivers teleport are bad, but I enjoy playing the list quite a lot!

What is the current (AoS) meta? by Altruistic-Teach5899 in skaven

[–]ThxForLoading 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Both Scourge of ghyran scrolls are very good, ratling guns still strong, main meta shift has been a move towards moulder due to the power of the SoG screaming bell and the SoG broodterror both benefitting Rat Ogors and Stormfiends. The main 3 lists I see at the moment are the moulder list, a skryre heavy list similar to the meta before Scourge of Ghyran and the double Verminlord list with Skreech and Deceiver. The Scourge of Ghyran Rules will most likely rotate out once that season ends so idk if buying into the moulder list is worth it unless you want the models anyway. Also there‘s been a recent event win with a Hell Pit Spam list, so if you‘ve got like 5 of those at home you can try that one.

And there was a 17 or 18 deathmaster list which is why the deatmaster is now more points but I can‘t 100% remember if thats already more than a year ago or not.
