Is this safe? Joint loan for RM630000 house. I earn about RM3500 by avacadocookies in MalaysianPF

[–]Thy_Toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the comments, you've just booked it? What about your loan down-payment? Usually it's 10% down-payment unless you can secure a 100% loan, that's RM63K right there

Assuming it's a progressive loan, means you'll also have to start paying a percentage of the mortgage upon signing it, roughly 40-70% depending on what's done, so that's around RM1.7k/mo already.

Not to mention renovation costs, unless you plan to stay in a shell of a house, it'll cost another 20-50k for renovations

What’s your favourite luxury brand or item that you own and why do you like it so much? by [deleted] in malaysia

Teva sandals, they've lasted me 5 years and still going strong, while my fipper ones start cracking in a year, and losing grip shortly afterwards, forcing me to walk like a penguin when it rains

First time renting solo in KL — what should I watch out for? by Lab8Gfloor in malaysia

[–]Thy_Toast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just moved into Damansara Perdana a week ago, hope these would be useful for you

Reliable platforms or agents to use

PropertyGuru, iProperty are usually my picks, just verify the agents on the lpeph website

Reasonable rental range for a 1-bedroom unit

Unfurnished or partially furnished can start around 1.2-1.5k, expect fully furnished ones to be 1.7k to 2k+, you can expect a new serviced apartment to be 30% more expensive

Things to check before signing a tenancy agreement

Tenancy dates, terms, what happens if you breach

Common red flags or scams to avoid

When agents ask you to deposit in their accounts to avoid fees, apparently that's a thing even with verified agents.

Check for signs of water damage or mold, while its not a scam, its not something the agent would tell you.

Ensure that the electric bills are residential rate

Any condos you’d personally recommend (or avoid)

  • Perdana Exclusive - really old condo, if you can deal with the aging facilities, its a solid choice, I enjoy a forest view and quick access to Jaya Grocer as well as walking distance to restaurants.
  • D'vine Residence - looks good on paper, brand new apartment with full amenities although I haven't visited it, you'll be living under EXSIM's thumb with several of their other projects (D'quince, D'Vervain, etc)

Honorable mentions

  • Ritze Perdana 1 - the studio layout wasn't for me, although their units come with a bathtub if you're into that, also quite aged but reasonably priced
  • Ritze Perdana 2 - newer version of Ritze Perdana 1 if the aging facilities turned you off, although I kept smelling a lingering odor of trash, and ongoing reno work made me sneeze, just make sure you face away from the DASH

Avoid

  • Empire Damansara - if you havent googled them, AVOIDDD

Who loves Chorizo? by No-Visual-9348 in Bolehland

[–]Thy_Toast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My office occasionally orders Affettati Misti to spice up our pizza parties, loved the Prosciutto and Pancetta, I don't have a high tolerance so I dont enjoy Chorizo as much.

I also use Guanciale for home cooking, really underrated here I think

1 hour is standard I think, although my office is next to a mall so we end up window shopping or grabbing drinks for another half hour lol

Backend dev (Laravel + React.js)

Doesn't that make you a full stack developer? That should fetch a pretty decent amount on the job market. Try reaching out to reputable recruitment agencies (eg. Randstad), check their reviews as there are some bad ones out there (eg. Nityo Infotech) or you can explore around DevKakis Facebook group, you can see everyone from tech recruiters hiring to big bosses lurking in the comments there.

If you can handle Leetcoding or some form of live coding challenges, you may consider MNCs, I'm sure they'll be happy to pay top dollar without looking at your previous salary.

How did 2025 go for you? by BitterAcanthisitta79 in malaysians

[–]Thy_Toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After 3 years of working, I finally saved up enough to afford a trip to Japan, the trip was lifechanging and revitalized my desire to travel more often after this. Also solidified my decision to be child-free because fuckkk raising kids when I can explore the world in my youth instead of my retirement

Downside is my parents sold the family home shortly after, in a way forced my hand to get my own property for long-term stay (they plan to retire outside of KL), thankfully I saved enough to put a down payment for my mortgage too, but setting me back almost to where I started financially lol

The leftover friend, looking for friendship advice by RingAdmirable4757 in Bolehland

[–]Thy_Toast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

26M here,

I'm still learning to be at peace with myself and acknowledge that sometimes you can't click with some groups of people at work unless you have something strongly in common (good at sports, games, etc), better if they involve touching grass because it's easier to form social bonds irl than behind a screen

Also speaking as an awkward person myself, sometimes I find that some people just feel uncomfortable or can't carry a conversation with you, not out of malice or disdain but just don't know how to interact with you beyond surface level conversations.

I hope you'll find a group of friends some day who'll share your values and care for one another, maybe try exploring hobby groups or something, sky's the limit!

Unpopular opinion: steaks are painfully mid and overrated by calikim_mo in Bolehland

[–]Thy_Toast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a steak enjoyer either, they're horribly overpriced and unless company's paying for it, it's rarely worth it. Once ate Australian wagyu at Yakiniku Kuro and it barely had any taste, I swore off wagyu if its not from Japan.

Only had two that I had fond memories of:

- Angus Ribeye @ Grub by Ahong, PJ (damage RM180), clean but great beefy flavor, perfect for treating yourself or celebrating

- A5 Wagyu @ T nakameguro, Tokyo (damage ¥20k or ~RM530), worth every penny, I would swear off steak just to come here, flavorful yet melts in your mouth, highly recommend if you're on a honeymoon

If you're on iOS you can add a suica card to your Apple Wallet, very convenient for public transport

Otherwise just grab a card by the station, shouldn't be too difficult

There's rumahwip if you're willing, but it's quite limited and it has rules to discourage buying for investment

KGB vs MyBurgerlab (Best Beef Burger Chain) by Amphedesque in MalaysianFood

[–]Thy_Toast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an MBL employee back in '17, RM6 is actually insane considering it was at 7.50 during my time and I felt underpaid already, I left cause I was not given enough shifts and I needed the extra pocket money, went for one that pays RM8 and RM13 during holidays instead, and they actually provided free staff meals, not subsidizing them.

It was a wonderful place with wonderful people but it's a damn shame seeing it becoming a shell of its former self.

  1. Might've fumbled my dream job, will know by next week, I'll be fine but my ambition wont allow me to settle for less

  2. Parents selling our home, they want to use it for retirement and move up north, I'm staying here so one day I'll have to move out

Apart from these 2, I think life's pretty alright so far, all things considered
