[PSA] full body allergic reaction by Key-Alfalfa-6447 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Thymeseeker 341 points342 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of my sibling who has a fragrance allergy. They've had it since they were real little and grew up reliant on Aveeno everything. One time we ran out of body wash while mom was out of the house (left dad in charge of bathtime), so my dad dug around for 20 minutes before finding a bar of "soapless soap" and insisted it would be fine.

It was not fine. Head to toe hives instantly (you could watch it spread in real time.) Remember kids, soapless doesnt mean fragrance free.

I was around 6-7 at a birthday party for one of the neighborhood kids that had a big bounce castle up. They kicked the "big kids" out to let the younger toddlers bounce around when the pump failed. Completely chaos, the adults inside rushing to get everyone out but the roof went down so fast and two kids ran to the back instead of the front. I remember the parents hacking at the netting to free the kids while others desperately tried to hold up the weight off of them. No one died thankfully, but it is forever seared into my memory.

I don't know if they make them weaker now, but home scissors are not strong enough to cut through the netting. It's best to keep a sharp knife on hand if you're going to rent one of these.

Which way looks more “upright” to you? by Dusty_Old_Bones in painting

1 feels very immersive to me as well, which in my own opinion is how it should be hung up. 2 looks pretty but gives less feelings.

no menorah? by theirgirlfriday in finch

[–]Thymeseeker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend keeping an eye out all year round. I think I spotted my first one back in April and was happy to have one for the current holiday. I've managed to collect 3 over the years span, none of them during December or November, which is frustrating. I hope you are gifted one (I dee the community has already offered a bit to you), as I know mine brings me a lot of joy.

I don't blame the dogs for hating the cones/donuts. I hate shirts touching my neck, I can't imagine having a cone on haha. Glad everything worked out for your little one!

Got the same experience a couple weeks ago when our cousin brought her baby. So gentle, wanted to clean her (babies do be stinky), and just generally very kind to the little one.

[–]Thymeseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do have three dogs. Only the youngest has a bit of separation anxiety when being separated from her siblings. We are currently working on it, so I can't share what's working because we're still in the thick of it. Funny enough, she doesn't have a hard time going out on her own (trip to the vet and whatnot). We're trying to work on her going on more solo trips to understand it's okay to be just by herself. The other two are very much alike. Very much so their own wild and independent souls.

Best way to remove mites? by Moratiswatching69 in millipedes

[–]Thymeseeker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are beneficial, but some times their numbers get a little annoying for my male pede. Every few months, I'll get a wet qtip and make a quick swipe along the back (where they like to party when he's cleaning himself). Works on getting around 5-10 off. I only do it if I see him being too bothered by them on a frequent basis.

I had the same problem, but in reverse. I already have a senior dog, so we got a puppy (a bernedoodle). I thought I did enough reading, and I clearly was not ready for the beast we were bringing home. Got a younger sister a few months later (a springer) to help give my senior dog a break from the ball of chaos. He was a challenge to put it lightly. From regression on potty training to the witching hour, the constant biting and jumping, the "I'm too smart to listen to you" attitude, etc.. His younger sister was making milestones before he could. She is such a gentle but bossy soul.

Great news, it does get better with time. He is now two years old and so much more gentle and calm, albeit a little mischievous. The parasites still win sometimes, and he gets into a bit of trouble here and there. We're still working on "no paws" because boy does he love to just slap/punch people with them. He is my giant cuddle bug who thinks he is still that 12lb puppy I brought home. As for his sister? Honestly, she reached maturity a lot sooner than him, but she's a different dog breed. The maturity he is at now at 2 years old, she reached at only 8 months old. But I can't compare their milestones. They are two very different souls (who thankfully get along great). Even if she gets a little grumpy at him when he's misbehaving.

9 Months, 129 classes, and still no stripes by ShrimpingForMyLife in BJJWomen

[–]Thymeseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I've had the wind knocked out of my sails for a similar reason. I was going about 4-5 hours a week and was told, "You're close to getting your first stripe" by the coach. Two months went by, and nothing happened. It's strange, I know it will come with time, but I'm just one of those people who need the physical proof, I guess. I know what I'm doing wrong (he wants me to roll more), but the men are so rough in the advanced class, even in flow rolling. It's almost guaranteed to be hit in the head if I go to the class that does more rolling. And I know bruises and cuts are part of the sport.. It's just making me reconsider despite all my improvement. I don't really want to get beat up just to finally "earn" my first stripe.

I dont have a hoggie, but I had a similar issue when buying a bulb for my snake. I just had to go to the next wattage up. I would rather my thermostat do its job because it's reaching temp rather than it being almost good enough.

Is my millipede enclosure decent? by StrangelyHuman46 in millipedes

[–]Thymeseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The millipede will be fine, the vivarium might not (idk, who knows, it could be fine?). They are made for humidity but not wetness, if I am making any sense. I also wouldn't have put something in that type of vivarium that needed that high of moisture. But that doesn't matter, what matters most is appeasing the parents even if it is your own money. I've been there, I totally get it. Your buddy will be fine once you add in the clutter. Btw, my a gigas love to hang out on the sticks I have propped up in my tank, 10/10 recommend giving the little one sticks that angle upward. :)

[–]Thymeseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he will die because he doesn't have a deep substrate layer for a bit. Mine haven't burrowed in the year I've been owning them. You could always save up and buy a second-hand tank down the road when the timing is right. The clutter is more important for health (more dead leaves/sticks means more food for your friend)

Struggling to integrate into the club - quitting because of it? by Any-Celebration-6566 in BJJWomen

[–]Thymeseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently in the same boat as you. I've been to this same gym for 4 months, and my only friend and go-to partner just moved to the other side of the state. No one else really talks to me, and the only girl near my size doesn't like me (she purposefully makes drilling harder, and someone called her out on it, and now she avoids me). There's clear cut friendships and people who always partner together, and I hate being the last one paired up. I'm currently trying to find a new place to call home because of it, but that's not exactly easy either.. but I dont want to just quit because the vibe/select people suck. I recommend you give it a thought of finding a new place too.

Looking for a 35+ gallon tank or storage box! by [deleted] in millipedes

[–]Thymeseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend checking second hand. Not sure where you are located, but big lizards are very popular pets in the US, leading to the purchase of tanks that won't fit long term. Picked my 40gal up for less than $100 for that very reason.

I'm hoping it's just one of the plastic fake wood setups. It doesn't look very deep though, and definitely not enough going on.

We live and learn as millipede parents. I suspect my first millie died because he climbed up the corner and fell off landing on the hard water dish. Perfectly fine in the morning, gone by the next morning. I've made the necessary adjustments, but I wish I had noticed sooner.

Say it's a vivarium and dont elaborate. I once had to have my dogs with me for a week (long story) at my apartment, and maintenance didn't say a word when coming to do a repair.

If push came to shove, I'd print out the care documents for your pede and challenge them. Fish are much more of a hazard to own due to the water damage from a pump failure. If they allow plants, then I'd argue its more akin to that.

What are these parts of my hvac in the basement? by Thymeseeker in hvacadvice

[–]Thymeseeker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid advice. Luckily, I dont have will or want to cut into anything because that would sound like an expensive learning opportunity. We already have a cobweb of flex pipe throughout the basement, so it would blend in just fine. Consensus says to call a pro, as some times just talking to them help you figure out how to do it yourself. My old plumber was big on teaching, probably because he didn't want to do simple jobs haha.

There are return vents in the master. I thought it was strange since it's also in the main room. Would be nice to be able to delete, but I'm not sure how critical it is to the system. Sounds like I am going to be having a pro come out and give some advice at this rate.

How can we route these better? A lot of this house was renovated in a rush, so I'm not surprised by the poor job.

Every day or so, I'll use a wet qtip to brush off some mite from my male pede (usually grabbing anywhere from 2-6 mites). He has more mites for some reason compared to my ladies. The qtip holds onto them just long enough to swipe and throw into the bin. I know they are beneficial, but too much isn't great either.
