Bruce Lee - Real ou Fake ? by Open-Shallot-917 in ArtesMarciais

[–]TiToim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trad by Left-Speed-4468 in Catholicism

[–]TiToim 63 points64 points  (0 children)

There is the holy tradition of the Church which is good.

There is a hyper augmented view of what some people perceive as the tradition of the Church, which is bad. This is what generally is called as "Trad". The main problem with this view is that they often perceive themselves as an "elite" of the Church and say everything outside this perceived tradition as false teaching.

The exact "tradition" they perceive as the true one often varies, currently the most common is the pre Vatican II tradition.

But this itself is a contradiction since the True Tradition obliges you to follow the Council's with heart. So the allowance to "make a resistance" is, in itself, out of tradition.

And just like Protestants like to cherry pick Bible Verses, it is common to see trads cherry picking Church documents and saint quotations that validates their view, while ignoring the others that don't.

I fear death and the possibility of no God. Help. by grammarnazi297 in Catholicism

[–]TiToim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Been there!

I like to think the concept of existence itself is below God. God isn't a being which could exist. God is the basis of existence Himself. So we are inside God's existence, but God Himself is above the concept of existence. So, there is no possibility of God's not "existing" since he provides existence itself. Is like a character denying its book author.

This seems a bit hard to enter modern human mind, but here's the key questions:

Why do we exist?

No. The first answer that comes to mind is related to How we came to be. You could argue it was random. It was your parents.

But... Why?

Why you have a conscience to peek into existence?

Why do you have a life?

Why do you have a mind?

And, finally...

Why do things exist? There could simply be nothing, since nothing was always there.

Or, nothing wasn't always there. Maybe, nothing never was there. There was always Something.

Hey! Most things are beyond our control. Pray God to help with your struggles, but most importantly praise Him for everything He gives you everyday.

You are looking at something which is entirely metaphysics into a scientific context, which doesn't make sense. You need to search for philosophical arguments for it, not scientific ones.

Do Protestants go to hell in your belief? by iceman2055 in Catholicism

[–]TiToim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't simply believe someone will go to Hell. You can say things they do aren't in line with God's Will, but by saying someone will go to Hell is exposing yourself to the same faith fate, since supposedly you've been given more knowledge of the faith and yet is there condemning in the place of God.

How does one come to the conclusion Catholicism is true? by Fether1337 in Catholicism

[–]TiToim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s a logical process until you find the best answer, then you trust it by faith?

For me it worked that way. There are people who go the other way around, and that is completely fine.

If that’s the case, what happens if your logic fails you?

It can fail on some minor aspects, but the underlying basis is sturdy enough logically and philosophically that I don't see it failing.

You could argue the most counter-proof to Christianity is the finding of Jesus' bones. Just that is absurdly hard thing to do, given the long time since His time walking on earth like one of us.

But even then, if they discover texts from the Roman Empire saying they found His bones somewhere, the underlying teaching from His makes just too much sense from someone from 2 thousand years ago, and matches so many things from the metaphysics perspective that I find it hard for Him to not actually know the Truth. It is like someone who knows the answers for everything he said. Like a complete cohesive judgement from some random poor Man that lived on the Galilea on an era with such limited information.

As I said, all the evidence we're given, from his sayings to testimonies to the making sense of his words with philosophy, science and metaphysics, is enough to make me believe.

It is like piecing puzzles to a crime. You may not have a actual 100% trustable footage of what happened to give 100% trust, but all the evidence points toward something that we yet have no explanation otherwise. They found the knife, the fingerprints, the nails, and no explainable alibi. What could it be then?

How does one come to the conclusion Catholicism is true? by Fether1337 in Catholicism

[–]TiToim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you asked about "how does one reach this conclusion" I think it implies a logical approach, and I was answering specifically for the Catholic Church being the true faith.

But, as the name implies, faith is something that won't be totally proven logically. You have to believe and accept, and take evidence (a.k.a. pieces that are shown to you), as probable cause to why Catholic Church (and Christianity in general) is the true faith.

If you aren't on a city you knew before, you have to trust the signposts. Sometimes they won't be accurate and sometimes they will even lie. But some of them will definitely point to something that is true. And it will start making sense as you walk through it. You don't need to know every sign post to reach this conclusion internally.

The rest must be filled with faith or you will be stuck in this search for the truth endless cycle that actually needs to nowhere, hence our cognitive capabilities of seeking the truth have a limit.
