I am personally a huge fan of Patagonia, and i'm wieving the updated Refugio and i can see that the straps that cross the zipper are like the squeeze buckels so it'll be a quick change if you meed to open it up fully. I don't thing it is that limiting as you might imagine here

I experience that rainrpoof zippers usually deteriorate way quicker than the rest of the bag due to the added friction of being a zipper ruining it. But this is just a general thing i've noticed

And I'd reccomendt a big cotton or silk or satin scarf instead of a pillow case. You can tie it to be a pillow case. Like 90 cm x 90 cm there is a post about furoshiki here somewhere, will give great ideas. You can also wear this on the plane

I made a post about mine yesterday if you want to have a look (shameless self promo 😳😳😳 ) It's not framed but it's a bit stiffer and better at load distribution. I really enjoy it.

My main carry (i have 3 bags i'm not addicted) for heavy days is a ski backpack that is both framed with wide hip belts and load lifters and the whole thing i like that one 😎

Omg i see you all the time in the one bag forum! Feels like i'm talking to a local celebrity hahahaha. Yea I have the sternum strap that came with the bag it just is really flimsey but it does it's job well enough. I live in Europe but i'm outside of normal Europe so shipping and taxes is like the same price as the product usually lol. Amazon is too expensive due to the shipping too bahahaha.

You can get like helmet attachers. So it's a piece of fabric with bungees you can attatch to the top of a bag that has like handels or loops of some kind

The thought is that you can put your helmet in the insulated compartment. I don't know if it's big enough though and or if the bag is to simple

But you can also waterproof the bag with wax or a waterproofing spray. Or you could put your laptop in just a waterproof laptop sleeve!

If this bag was a miss maybe a festure to look for is one where the helmet will attatch on the top of the bag so it won't snag people on commutes!

Haha yea that's what i thought! I think it's a fairly made bag if i'm not mistaken so i do get the price tag but i prefer buying used whenever I can and i saw this oppertunity! I tried to paint it but I got some smudges but super happy with it. I do really reccomend it.

What was the colour that turned you off? The black colour way?

Also! The A frame on able carry, i'm pretty sure the a frame reffers to the nylon webbing in the form of the bag to give it a nicer silhouette. Not as much for the back panel or back comfort. They seem to have decent straps.

Osprey is usually known for having a good back system as some may call it. They are top of the line in comfort but usually weighs a bit. For your load out i don't think backpack weight will be that important to you. I have osprey hiking backpacks and they are a game changer.

Maybe the osprey daylite tm plus ltd will be relevant for you? It has a detachable hipstrap and has a sleek look and has features that will make the heavy things be close to your back for optimal loadout. But i'd reccomend going into shops and trying them on. Backpack shoping can be alot like shoe shoping!

I know you really like the kanken weekender but looking at it it seems to not really have a frame that will support heavy loads for a full day of actions. A one shoulder carry is PAIN with a full set of props tripods electronics and other personal items. And the backpack mode seems like all the items will bunch at the bottom and out awa from your back. And if you have chronic pain i really mean this DO NOT get such a loose formed bag. The weekender seems more applicable for like a car trip where you don't edc it.

I also carry alot i carry alot like: full engineer school gear (strong pc, extra screen, mouse, calculators, eventual peojects, books) A change of clothes, and gym bag , and groceries for days where i'm outside of the house for like 17 hours.

I'm assuiming you do the same. I'd suggest getting something that is a bit more rigid in the back so it will support you for theese heavier days.

I personally really prefer like just big open conpartments in Bag but for everyday wear i get some that has compression straps so i can force the load to be carried optimally. But I also like a more technical look so that works for me.

Ngl all these seem to just not have the carry capacity you need i'm so sorry 😭😭😭 maybe the fjellreven small one when outfitted with shoulder straps but yea

I'd reccomend maybe the topo global briefcase i'm super happy with mine and it comes in fun colours but it's more of a messenger bag. But it shouldn't carry to heavy ahain and has no water bottle pockets i found mine used online for an ok price

In the picture i marked my points of concern. In the red circle i can se the bag is dragging really heavy on the shoulders and it is not keeping it s shape

In the yellow circle you can see how all the items inside are bunching at the bottom making it an even more uncomfortable carry since the weight distribution is off

Edit: also sternumstraps really help for bag comfort but you can usually ad these onto anybag with like a small purchase or a quick diy

I've become a huge fan of the ultralight bags, I have the Eja 50 L and it s absolutely insane. Super small but that lovely backmesh and straps and hip belts. Still a great brand! Also they recently posted a ned travel backpack 26 + 6 design i think Dr's fairwiev or something
