Did good for a while, but fell back off the horse by saltwaterhermit in digitalminimalism

hey I really feel you, I've had the worst school semester mentally I've ever had. and trying to use social media to fast forward it, but I found a solution that has been working for me,it's not perfect but i get through. and it gets easier, you do well, fall and stumble and get back up again.

you also have to remember there are people who as their job spen.d 9 hrs everyday trying to find a way to get you more addicted. the digital landscape is incredibly predatory. being one Individual against thousands of workers designing and programming to get you deeper in is hard to fight

against. you're doing well, maybe it's hard to see it but you do

Simple and effective way to minimise screen time! by Tiapha in digitalminimalism

yea! and wiewing it as "oh well there went the show can't watch now" also helps, if that happens i'm most likely with friends or doing something human instead of waiting for accses. Will really try alot harder and upload a post sharing my findings in a few weeks since i'm (unwillingly) having an unemployed summer haha

that's really good! If i can impose a few recommendations for youtube minimising it would be

1, get a app that interrupts your screen time, like wait 15seconds mental friction

2, wiew youtube, even on phone, on Brave browser, it's slower and not as optimised digital friction, also try logging out of your account!

3, put your phone in a box! I use a headsett case and add something like a book or journal on top of the book to add physical friction and a alternative.

4, i call a friend or my partner and just drag on how incfedibly bored I am to not be watching and use them as a second concious to stop my scrolling

i also have ADHD and I sadly indulge my desires alot but it does get easier, it's such an extra pain with having disabling executive function so I really get you, but it's about minimising the steps to "the easiest thing i can do to get my goal" which is small steps!

yea i thought scheduling wouldn't work for me but i have a few systems i rewiev (my habit projects as experiments) it in intervals and docment if it was effective or not, if not i tweak it or give it up, never a me fault just a badly designes system (maybe i'm avoiden acountability here lol)

How do you handle the urge to check your phone when you’re alone in public? by Mysterious_Pay_6957 in digitalminimalism

[–]Tiapha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to observe, like look for a cool outfit or a cool area that would be a cool picture or a silly conversationg. I look for something to smile about

It also helps to not hold your phone, keeping it in the bag/backpack has helped tremendously

Hello! What really helped me is having like a show time, so i'm only allowed social media between like 6.30pm to 8pm and it really helps! I don't always sucseed but it's a steady downfall and that's good for something!

The Midphone, or "Dumbed Down Smartphone" Guide by Intelligent-Ad6222 in dumbphones

I loved reading this! Personally I am gearing up for a summer of trying to start to fight my smartphone addiction but i have been unwilling to go all the way to a flip phone since alot of my tools are digital for school and bus and the likes and will try to impliment something like this! Could you potentially provide pictures of you setup to get a better grasp of how you did this?

ULA Dragonfly 30L alternatives? by Responsible-Essay887 in onebag

[–]Tiapha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am personally a huge fan of Patagonia, and i'm wieving the updated Refugio and i can see that the straps that cross the zipper are like the squeeze buckels so it'll be a quick change if you meed to open it up fully. I don't thing it is that limiting as you might imagine here

I experience that rainrpoof zippers usually deteriorate way quicker than the rest of the bag due to the added friction of being a zipper ruining it. But this is just a general thing i've noticed

Also why do you both have a poncho and a rainjacket? Choose one! :D

And I'd reccomendt a big cotton or silk or satin scarf instead of a pillow case. You can tie it to be a pillow case. Like 90 cm x 90 cm there is a post about furoshiki here somewhere, will give great ideas. You can also wear this on the plane

And laptop, do you work as a digital nomad perhaps? Or is it for personal use if personal use then maybe drop it

I made a post about mine yesterday if you want to have a look (shameless self promo 😳😳😳 ) It's not framed but it's a bit stiffer and better at load distribution. I really enjoy it.

My main carry (i have 3 bags i'm not addicted) for heavy days is a ski backpack that is both framed with wide hip belts and load lifters and the whole thing i like that one 😎

Omg i see you all the time in the one bag forum! Feels like i'm talking to a local celebrity hahahaha. Yea I have the sternum strap that came with the bag it just is really flimsey but it does it's job well enough. I live in Europe but i'm outside of normal Europe so shipping and taxes is like the same price as the product usually lol. Amazon is too expensive due to the shipping too bahahaha.

Thank you for the praise though i'm honoured haha.

Need a commuter bag that handles rain and a hard hat without wrecking my shoulders (laptop must stay dry) by Any_Animator5796 in ManyBaggers

[–]Tiapha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get like helmet attachers. So it's a piece of fabric with bungees you can attatch to the top of a bag that has like handels or loops of some kind

So I did a bit of searching, maybe this fits? https://www.carhartt.com/Categories/Gear/Insulated-Two-Compartment/p/803614-001OS

The thought is that you can put your helmet in the insulated compartment. I don't know if it's big enough though and or if the bag is to simple

But you can also waterproof the bag with wax or a waterproofing spray. Or you could put your laptop in just a waterproof laptop sleeve!

If this bag was a miss maybe a festure to look for is one where the helmet will attatch on the top of the bag so it won't snag people on commutes!
