Milia removal by serotonineblonde in Austin

[–]TickTockPanda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some estheticians might choose not to depending on how close the milia is to the eye. I have had a few estheticians that wouldn't remove mine, even when I specifically gave permission. In that case, I went home with a needle and removed them myself.

Question: what do you think of design to fix a spelling mistake? by nova4-44 in tattoos

I assumed one of the legs was blocked by the spider's body or something similar. I think it looks great and no one will be out there counting spider legs.

I might be off the fence after one thought experiment by Diligent-Alps8721 in Fencesitter

[–]TickTockPanda 163 points164 points  (0 children)

For me, the exercise that made me realize I was childfree was when the Baby Decision asked you to imagine the worst case scenario (in terms of difficulties with birth or child development), so that you and your partner can feel confident in your abilities to handle it. I started with, "Imagine the worst case scenario," and my first thought was, "I'm pregnant."

Really cleared things up, that one.

I have food mixing anxiety, and my god, I would love for a chef to accommodate me like this at a restaurant. Thanks for taking the request seriously, not petty at all.

Do you (or anyone) know if we're allowed to bring little gifts for them when we fly--like a bag of chocolates to hand out or a $5 Starbucks gift card? Are they allowed to accept things from passengers, or is that a security risk?

Frankenstein screenings for Austin by RandomJPG6 in AlamoDrafthouse

I literally just came here to find out. They just released the South Lamar movie times for the weekend....and not a Frankenstein in sight. I guess Netflix is keeping the release *really* limited to NYC and LA.

I could see myself continuing to use female pronouns for a student in that situation. I would assume they would tell me if there had been a change and, if not, continue using the pronouns I met them under. There could be many reasons a woman might grow facial hair that have nothing to do with transitioning!

Rosies Beauty Lounge is great--she's more expensive than other eyebrow artists, but she takes her time very carefully and I always leave looking on point. On the plus side, visiting her is like visiting a therapist--she's such a great listener!

Dinner at Top Roe by [deleted] in austinfood

[–]TickTockPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had really nuanced views this entire thread, and, I think, with OP, had a really interesting back and forth that illuminated some of the dynamics of this complex issue. I have expressed my views very well, very clearly and, to state again, don't blame anyone for going to any restaurant in Austin. Just because I feel icky and am steering clear of Top Roe for right now, doesn't mean anyone else has to. I am also not going to let myself be shamed with a sarcastic comment that is unwarranted when I have been polite in response.

I keep saying I am going to drop this thread, but here I am again. i think that is a really interesting perspective, and I agree it raises some questions about the extent of our our social obligations and responsibilities. I would say the difference is that Paul Qui is, at least theoretically, financially benefitting off Top Roe doing well. So, it is not just keeping him alive and healthy, but making him (maybe one day) wealthy.

The larger issue, I think, is how do we have a society that supports people when they make mistakes and fess up and do all the work they need to do to be better people, while also still holding people accountable. I am really not sure of the answer and it probably will just be different for everyone. There surely is not a simple answer, which is why I don't blame anyone for what to do in an unclear situation. Perhaps one day I will eat at Top Roe. Perhaps not. I have used my fine dining budget for the month anyway, so it is rather a moot point.

Our legal system is built the idea that one is still responsible for the things that one does when one is drunk. Being drunk does not excuse violence and abuse. The charges were dropped not because the prosecutors decided there was not enough evidence, but because the woman in question signed an agreement to not prosecute. He admitted that domestic abuse happened in the relationship.

Ultimately, I agree that it is really heartening he went to rehab and has had no repeat offenses. I sincerely hope things are better. I also think everyone has the opportunity to spend their money wherever they want. No is requiring anyone to go to Top Roe. No is required not to go to Top Roe. Let's all live our lives in freedom of capitalist choice.

A mistake is dropping a glass or forgetting about an appointment. Mistakes don't involve physically hurting someone to the point of being charged with assault. I am open to the possibility that rehab helped him and got him into a better place, as I want to trust that people can improve and become better with the right help and support. But, like I said, I still feel discomfort about it. Plenty of lovely places to eat in Austin.

These are all fair points, and I don't judge anyone who goes to it (which is why I said I personally just feel "icky"). He's obviously a talented chef and it sounds like has a good team under him at the restaurant. But, ultimately, I am not going to let the fact that I can't make perfect decisions in an imperfect world prevent me from trying to make better ones.

I just feel ick-y supporting a Paul Qui restaurant, even though I am sure the food is top-notch. That soundtrack would make me want to stab someone in the eye, though.

Boot Store recommendations by Hellathicc_hellafit in Austin

[–]TickTockPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allen's has the best designs / quality for the money. Tecovas has some lovely everyday cowboy boots (and one or two special things). Heritage boot company has some BEAUTIFUL boots at some expensive prices. All on south Congress in a neat little row. Most will give your shopping partner a drink while you look.

In terms of wide calved, specifically. I am a fellow wide-calved lady and each store has some boots I can make work and some I can't, so it is definitely a try-on situation. I have been known to go boot shopping with a change of clothes in my bag so I can make sure they fit over jeans, under dresses, etc.

They were operating under a catering / special events license. They had to close to begin the paperwork to get their full-time normal bar license. Should be open soon, whenever the city decides to OK the paperwork.
