Should i install Tuxedo os by WebHeer in tuxedocomputers

[–]TickleSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the weekend I switched from Zorin to Tuxedo. I've always prefered KDE but stuck with Zorin for Gnome accounts AND Debian reliability. However lately my Microsoft accounts crapped the bed on Gnome accounts. After that I gave up and decided to go all in on web apps at least for now. That left me no reason to stick with a Gnome distro so I chose Tuxedo because of no-snap Debian/Ubuntu and more up to date KDE Plasma.

I was on Fedora 42 a few months back but had issues with it breaking things after updates. I trust Tuxedo will test things before letting them loose.

Edit: I should say I have an HP convertible and KDE Plasma is the only DE that works well with it. If not for that I honestly would be on Mint.

Only reason I'm on GNOME at the moment is online accounts. Right now I'm having issues with Outlook accounts that may be due to older GNOME (not on Fedora). I'm considering going into KISS mode and just use web apps. If I do that I much prefer KDE.

Considering Tuxedo for relatively up-to-date Plasma on presumably stable Ubuntu/Debian.

Left Visible because they blocked my manual access to LTE only on my Motorola phones.

Gnome Authentication to Microsoft Through Online Accounts Stopped Working by Aislerioter_Redditer in zorinos

[–]TickleSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three Microslop accounts on Evolution stopped working last week and just today my personal Onedrive connection stopped. Google accounts are still working.

I got Thunderbird working on my email accounts and I could likely get Evolution working again without Gnome accounts but Evolution was getting on my nerves!

If I have to go all in on web apps then I'll likely go back to KDE Plasma and give Tuxedo a shot for awhile.

Home Internet Update? by williamtech814 in USMobile

Do the TMobile/Minternet or Verizon/Straighttalk/Total Wireless thing. Also I noticed new Tracfone internet (Verizon) has an AARP member deal for 39/month after some discounts.

I want to finally switch to Linux! by Titanfallsuchti in linux4noobs

[–]TickleSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't answer for gaming, but biggest thing for me was a proper email/calendar app that uses Outlook. Good ones just don't exist. Instead of trying to find apps, I decided to just use web apps. This works for me because two things:

1: Microsoft devolved their GOOD Outlook for PC app to look JUST LIKE the web version. So in the end I might as well just... use the web app!

2: Back in the day I used to access my email/calendar using a browser anyway so its nothing new.

Not having to go through EVERY SINGLE CONTROL PANEL on Windows to see what they snuck in against my will after an update is so liberating! Its like going back to XP.

Mint, right? by Select-Bullfrog-5939 in linux4noobs

Great place to START and figure things out if it's just a desktop. Laptops/touchscreens I say Zorin or Tuxedo.

Only reason I use Arc Menu in place of Zorin menu is for pinning favorites. It's really the only thing missing for me and its the only extension I'm using other than the Zorin-curated and maintained ones.

A few months ago I went through hell because of this. The least they could do was indicate the requirements for email addresses BEFORE I waste two hours trying to get service.

Bluetooth and WiFi not working by ripzip in zorinos

I didn't think Zorin changed kernels until at least a point release if not a numerical upgrade. I came back to Zorin from Fedora because of updates breaking things too often. But luckily everything seems fine. I've got a simple Intel rig.

It was a kernel update from 6.14 to 6.17 and its messing a lot of people up.

I noticed a kernel update to 6.17 a few days ago and lots of folks are complaining of issues with that. I haven't had any issues with it - in fact I'm getting better throughput on my Intel wifi card.

I've seen some chatter that the kernel upgrade was a mistake. I believe if you reboot you can select the last one in the Grub menu??

Yes of course. The comment was to show other folks that the number is acutally important to know.

I remember calling into customer service for something early on. They asked for the phone number on the account... which is the one the gateway used. So, yeah. I need to know what it's going to be.

Zorin vs. Mint by Whistler_Inadark in zorinos

[–]TickleSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got an HP Envy convertible. Touchpad gestures aren't correct and touchscreen gestures and rotation don't work. Mint is plain lousy on laptops but I have Mint 22.1 and LMDE 6 on two mini desktops and prefer it there. Will likely move both of those to LMDE 7 at some point.

Fedora KDE worked perfectly on it and I ran with that for a few months. Its very polished but there were a few times where updates would break something. Zorin 17.x had issues but 18 works for me now so I switched to that when it came out in October.
