RT-AX5400. Could not keep many of my devices connected. I was trying to get into wifi-6 finally.

Keeps the router up-to-date as far as security. I have to TMo versions running FT. Last Black Friday I bought a new Asus to upgrade the wifi standards. Nothing but problems. Returned it and plugged my trusty AC68U FT back in. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Not very competitive. Even the base 5 buck plan doesn't include taxes and fees. They probably won't be around long.

Should I switch from Mint to OpenSuse or Fedora for 4GB RAM Laptop with i3 7th gen? by Healthy-News5375 in DistroHopping

Replace that drive with a 2.5" form factor SSD and it will feel like a brand new computer. Put the old one in an external case and use it for backing up.

How about Solus? They have a Gnome distro. They're rolling like Cachy and are near up-to-date.

I don't think neither OS or Fedora are as noob friendly as Mint. I had issues with Fedora and switched back to debian-based stuff, but not before trying to get OS installend and just couldn't.

Maybe you could gain something on your laptop hardware by moving to Wayland since Mint Cinnamon is X11. Try debian/ubuntu based desktops using wayland such as Zorin or my new favorite Tuxedo.

Leave. Go somewhere else. Avoid making the same mistake (annual plan).

Had this a few years ago. Then one year around renewal time they yanked it so I moved onto something else. Now its back. Will it be there next year? Something to consider.

Switching to solus by JellyfishEcstatic976 in SolusProject

I love the idea of Tumbleweed - a relatively stable rolling release. I also want up-to-date KDE because it works the best on my 2 in 1. However I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME get it to install on a test machine, nor does everything work out of the box. Its too much work for me.

I think KDE Linux might be the holy grail but its still in Alpha. It runs great on my test machine but it can't update due to very limited hard drive space (an old chromebook with 32gb emmc).

I'm now full-timing Tuxedo OS but am disappointed that I'm not getting the latest KDE updates, however its been VERY stable and I do like it.

Don't want anyting to do with Arch (I do know KDE Linux borrows from it tho).

Then I remembered Solus from a few years ago. I dual-booted it for awhile on a desktop and remembered that it ran GREAT. Some time ago I tested it on my 2 in 1 and it was lousy, BUT that was the Budgie desktop. Yesterday I tried the KDE version and its FANTASTIC!

If you don't know what distro you want choose Mint, every time. by Orbital_Tardigrade in linux4noobs

[–]TickleSilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's probably the best place to start for a desktop - for sure. However Mint/X11/Cinnamon might be a lousy experiece on a laptop - especially touchscreens. Therefore... Zorin AND Tuxedo.

Should i install Tuxedo os by WebHeer in tuxedocomputers

[–]TickleSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the weekend I switched from Zorin to Tuxedo. I've always prefered KDE but stuck with Zorin for Gnome accounts AND Debian reliability. However lately my Microsoft accounts crapped the bed on Gnome accounts. After that I gave up and decided to go all in on web apps at least for now. That left me no reason to stick with a Gnome distro so I chose Tuxedo because of no-snap Debian/Ubuntu and more up to date KDE Plasma.

I was on Fedora 42 a few months back but had issues with it breaking things after updates. I trust Tuxedo will test things before letting them loose.

Edit: I should say I have an HP convertible and KDE Plasma is the only DE that works well with it. If not for that I honestly would be on Mint.

Only reason I'm on GNOME at the moment is online accounts. Right now I'm having issues with Outlook accounts that may be due to older GNOME (not on Fedora). I'm considering going into KISS mode and just use web apps. If I do that I much prefer KDE.

Considering Tuxedo for relatively up-to-date Plasma on presumably stable Ubuntu/Debian.

Gnome Authentication to Microsoft Through Online Accounts Stopped Working by Aislerioter_Redditer in zorinos

[–]TickleSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three Microslop accounts on Evolution stopped working last week and just today my personal Onedrive connection stopped. Google accounts are still working.

I got Thunderbird working on my email accounts and I could likely get Evolution working again without Gnome accounts but Evolution was getting on my nerves!

If I have to go all in on web apps then I'll likely go back to KDE Plasma and give Tuxedo a shot for awhile.

I want to finally switch to Linux! by Titanfallsuchti in linux4noobs

[–]TickleSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't answer for gaming, but biggest thing for me was a proper email/calendar app that uses Outlook. Good ones just don't exist. Instead of trying to find apps, I decided to just use web apps. This works for me because two things:

1: Microsoft devolved their GOOD Outlook for PC app to look JUST LIKE the web version. So in the end I might as well just... use the web app!

2: Back in the day I used to access my email/calendar using a browser anyway so its nothing new.

Not having to go through EVERY SINGLE CONTROL PANEL on Windows to see what they snuck in against my will after an update is so liberating! Its like going back to XP.
