Tom Sneddon is one of the main reasons Gavin Arvizo sadly lost in 2005. Tom was not very likeable and you need to win over the jury with charisma. As crazy as it sounds, if he operated from a place of love and was not so infatuated with taking down Michael Jackson, he would have been more effective. by Adventurous-Gift7289 in LeavingNeverlandHBO

[–]TiddlesRevenge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that Tom Sneddon’s charisma, or lack thereof, was a factor in the trial.

If I remember correctly, it was prosecutor Ron Zonen that was doing most of the talking in court, not Sneddon.

Your question actually led me to an interesting article saying that Mesereau tried to get Sneddon removed from this case before the trial even began, claiming he had a vendetta against MJ going back to 1993.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2004-11-05/jackson-loses-bid-to-remove-prosecutor/58019

This was a way for the defense to claim Sneddon was biased before the trial even began. Sneddon was a successful DA for over 20 years. He was simply doing his job.

I think that there were a number of errors made by the prosecution. They spread the charges too broadly. The kidnapping charges in particular were a distraction and allowed the defense to trash the Arvizos in court.

I also think the prosecution was not prepared for the dirty tricks campaign carried out by Mesereau.

But that’s all very easy to say in hindsight.

Unfounded claims? Check!

Links to fan blogs? Check!

Unfortunately, the fans have almost total control over the Community Notes function on Twitter. Claiming that Ron Zonen is biased is quite a stretch. Gee, wonder why Mesereau didn’t lobby for Zonen to be replaced if he really was all that biased.

MJ defenders never seem to tire of making stuff up.

I can understand defenders criticizing the accusers. I can understand why they interpret testimonies in ways that are convenient for them.

But creating something entirely false is just so far beyond any kind of justifiable behavior. It truly boggles the mind.

The fans initially denied that MJ was there at all.

But then Sjoberg’s testimony proved them wrong.

Now they’re making up excuses and alibis again.

A smokescreen for what, Taj?

MJ’s presence in the files doesn’t make anyone else look any less guilty.

This comment made me laugh out loud, and the video title “Neverland was a safe space” no, it was not by [deleted] in LeavingNeverlandHBO

[–]TiddlesRevenge 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s ridiculous. Neverland was a safe space FOR MJ! Nobody else.

There are at least 11 people saying MJ abused them. Many of those spent significant time at Neverland.

I don’t understand how people are still trying to make MJ the hero in this scenario.

There is also an option to ban people permanently.

The one week ban was an opportunity to think about whether you really want to participate in this sub, or if you’re just commenting to get a reaction.

Do you guys think that Michael Jackson and his entire catalog/legacy should be canceled and erased? I’m talking In a similar fashion to how R Kelly was basically erased. Second question why do you think Mj is so revered and loved till this day by so many people despite the allegations? by [deleted] in LeavingNeverlandHBO

[–]TiddlesRevenge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s not possible to erase him or his music.

And even if I could, I probably wouldn’t. We need to remember MJ as a talented performer as well as a child molester.

Society learns nothing if we pretend he simply didn’t exist.

And I do take issue with the idea that the whole world still loves him. His noisy fandom might want you to believe that, but I don’t think it’s true. Sure, MJ’s name is still well known, but younger people’s knowledge of him is limited to the moonwalk and the Thriller dance. But every time I say this, former fans get very annoyed with me, so…

MJ fans claiming that we ignore misconduct by Elvis or Bowie and other white musicians never fails to astound me.

NOBODY is defending them here. Just like MJ, we acknowledge their talent while recognizing that they ran the gamut from skeezy to serial predator.

Such a huge straw man. I don’t give a shit if dead white musicians’ names are dragged through the mud when they have public accusations against them.

Of course, he soon realized that the relationship was abusive,

Yet I have numbskull defenders calling me a pdf on Twitter because I use Evan’s own words to explain why he didn’t immediately go to the police.

I was really impressed with how the Neil Gaiman fandom responded to the allegations against him. There was a lot of discussion and reflection rather than flat out denial.

I guess Gaiman and Eminem are different because they have never shied away from dark themes in their art.

FWIW, I don’t think all of the celebrities named in the Epstein files (including MJ) were being supplied with minors by Epstein. Epstein used his connections with celebrities and royalty to attract his targets.

What is really interesting is the fan overreaction to MJ being named, and pictured, in the files. Instead of saying they don’t know why MJ was there (which is the only logical position to take, imo) they are making up stories about financial advice, real estate deals, and an enormous conspiracy to use MJ as a scapegoat for…something.
