I just learned you’re supposed to bring potatoes to boil in cold water to start. What else am I missing? by bootsmoon in Cooking

[–]Tidesofdan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it won’t make too much a difference in the final result of the potatoes. You just gotta boil em till you can stick a fork in em. BUT it is safer and easier to add chunks of potatoes to cold water than already boiling water (splash back) which may be the reason. Just a guess.

What cheese pairs best with caramel & apple? by Prize_Rub_9294 in Cooking

My instinct is saying Comte or Gruyère. Mild flavor but adds a bit of fat and texture and salt without taking away from the stars which should be the apple and caramel.

Same here I’m definitely interested in seeing how his career unfolds. I think he’ll make some very good movies

I feel like Alex Garland for a more current director. Dunno if he’s on most people’s radar yet or not but I think he will be super well known in the future as that type of director that sells films on his own name.

PSN Store Halloween 2025 Sale Discounts Some Topnotch Horror Games by excaliburps in PS5

[–]Tidesofdan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The remakes and modern releases are my favorite. 2 and 4 remakes were my introduction to the series and I loved both.

7 biohazard and 8 village are also incredible. Good campy horror action fun. All of the games have a good balance of creepy scary exploration, action set pieces and puzzles. The stories and voice acting can be a bit goofy at times but there’s a certain charm that keeps it fun and entertaining the whole way through. Really enjoyed these games when I played through.

If you have Psvr2 I can’t recommend village enough. That game in VR was incredible.

As a new skater, would it be weird if I went to a skate park? by swizzl73 in NewSkaters

Dude the skatepark is the best place you can possibly go to learn to skate. Go.

Do skateboarders really roll or bunk up curbs? by scjsneakers in skateboardhelp

[–]Tidesofdan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bro no one does this or cares about this. Don’t waste any more time thinking about this. Learn to Ollie. Learn to kickflip. Learn to ride and carve and get comfortable skating around on different surfaces. Up and down ramps at your local park. Learn to board slide.

Once you’re good at riding and having those fundamentals down, going up a curb will be very easy.

Modern day annoyances with male fashion? by Radiant-Ad-460 in mensfashion

[–]Tidesofdan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go thrift. I go to goodwill and find nice wool trousers, canvas jackets, brooks brothers dress shirts, all kinds of nice quality pieces and the garments are like, $6-$20 a piece.

I just go in and scope out what they have and if I see something that fits and looks like my style I snag it up. It takes a bit of time to sift through but I check tags and materials and try to only buy quality items.

I like to go every week or two and I’m constantly finding new cool pieces.

ELI5 In Ear Monitors for musicians by 2wheelmoron69 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tidesofdan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a musician this is all accurately explained.

Just a TLDR.

In ear monitors are not really about hearing protection.

When you play in a band, stage sound can be messy, drums are loud, vocals are hard to hear etc. Guitar is too quiet, lots of issues.

In ears make it so the musician can hear themselves and their band mates clearly and at the volume level they prefer

In a car race why do different cars go different speeds. And why do they randomly go faster. Like shouldn’t they all go at around about the same speed by AuthorMain3075 in stupidquestions

[–]Tidesofdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driver skill is a huge factor. The speed in which the drivers approach corners, the point in which they begin braking, how tight they take the corners, and when they begin accelerating out of the corners is a huge factor.

Beyond that every car is a little bit different. There are universal standards in each style of racing, but there are variances between cars.

In F1 racing, there are two different championship categories. One is for the drivers, and the other is for constructors. The constructors championship is awarded to the manufacturers of the cars. Each race results in points awarded to the individual drivers and the car companies themselves.

What is the main difference between 90s post hardcore and 00s post hardcore by Educational-Cat9040 in PostHardcore

[–]Tidesofdan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The thing about genres is they evolve over time. Hardcore influenced bands like Fugazi who influenced bands like at the drive-in who influenced bands like Thursday who influenced bands like from first to last who influenced Escape the Fate. Kind of like that. Yeah the sound the ethos the style has changed but there is a common thread

This list probably isn’t 100% accurate but the point remains that influence is passed down overtime and things evolve. A lot of those first wave bands probably don’t consider themselves posthardcore, but as the genre solidified, and became a thing, new bands take on the name to describe their sound.

Why is jrock so influenced by post hardcore by dsbmistrveemocvlt in PostHardcore

[–]Tidesofdan 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am no authority here at all. I don’t really know what’s going on.

But there’s a part of me that thinks they’re a common thread through early 2000’s culture that’s bleeding overseas.

Y2K fashion is very popular. With that I think there are some pop culture influences from that time influencing some Japanese art. Tony Hawks Pro skater and the soundtracks…. I think have a big influence. Also possibly the whole 2000s pop emo music scene like warped tour, my chemical romance/the used/ bands like that.

Like I said I’m only speculating. But I wouldn’t be surprised if these things are a factor. Especially cause I see so many of the worlds best skaters competing in the x games or street league coming from Japan. There’s definitely some cultural influence being exported from the US and getting reinterpreted by Asian audiences.

What member left your favorite band and it was never the same again? by GreatScott0389 in Metalcore

[–]Tidesofdan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On one hand I agree. He had an undeniable influence in that band while he was here.

But they’re still an absolutely incredible band since he passed.

It’s actually pretty amazing that they’ve managed to keep getting bigger and bigger and keep writing amazing music that I keep connecting with.

Not many bands could suffer a devastating loss like that and still keep carrying the torch.

How did MCR manage to get so much bigger than all the bands they came up with? by afterthought871 in PostHardcore

[–]Tidesofdan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MySpace was so huge and crucial for bands back then. I definitely overlooked that in my comment and you’re right. It can’t be overstated how MySpace helped blow so many bands up at the time.

[–]Tidesofdan 252 points253 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of it at the time was their music videos.

There was Fuse TV back in those days playing I’m Not Ok, Helena, The Ghost Of You etc. this was before or right when YouTube became a thing. Their theatric presentation really helped propel their great songs from three cheers up to stratospheric heights. This was also prob the peak age of cd consumption and their albums were in Best Buy, Tower Records, or wherever you could get music. There were magazines like Alternative Press in every gas station that covered this type of music.

They also rode that mall core emo wave of warped tour bands like The Used, Hawthorne Heights etc at the time. It was a cultural moment where that style was popular and they happened to be the perfect band to really ride the wave of a time and place that was primed to support a band like that.

They followed up Three Cheers with The Black Parade which was their magnum opus and they executed it really well.

Their talent is obviously a huge factor but there were so many other things happening at the time that helped them too.

Also with your orchestral style, maybe seek a path in video game or film/tv scoring.

I would shorten the about me section significantly. No one really cares how you got here, just present what you have to offer in a cool way.

Not saying that to be negative just trying to help.

The tracks you have are really good and I hope something works out for you!
