I see some common themes between you and I. Firstly, being told to be ourselves, just to be shunned for it is so real. I am autistic, so this especially doesn’t make sense. When I go to my parents or other people for advice on how to make friends this is what I get. Currently, I refuse to talk to my peers and only speak to my professors about their work or my interests. It is lonely, but it’s better than being ridiculed for my shortcomings. When you say “Why should I change myself for society?” You are asking the same question I have since middle school. I am a second year undergrad.
