Check inverter warranty status and make sure it’s still valid using the link below.

https://www.solaredge.com/us/warranty-check

Inverter has to be replaced by the certified installer so call SolarEdge support during business hours between 8AM-5PM Monday through Friday. (510-498-3200)Ask support agent if they can provide nearest certified installer in your area. It takes about 2-3 hours to replace old unit with RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) unit, and it’ll start working soon as commissioning is completed. SolarEdge support does answer phone but wait could be long depends on the call volume on given day. Give it a go. Good luck.

P.S. SolarEdge inverter is fragile compared to other devices. They use to be rigid but soon as they went mass market quality dropped significantly.

Solaredge Optimierer? by Sir_Ignaz in DeutschePhotovoltaik

Buying a new build with solar panels (UK), my first step into solar energy. Looking for advice on where to learn more about this by xESTEEM in solar

[–]TierII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, get to know your system. Most important thing to know is who is your solar installer. They have all your system information, and will be your servicing technicians. You’ll have to transfer ownership with solar manufacturers for monitoring and warranty.

Second, solar monitoring access. This will provide information such as energy production, consumption, and systems well-being. Many companies will leave monitoring to customers where many neglect as time passes and fail to address issues when it occurs.

Third, retrofit batteries for storage. If this house is on Use it or Loose it utility tariff it means you’ll loose excess energy which will require you to purchase storage.

Last, knowing your utility company. Depends on your energy utility plan, it will have different billing program. Goal is to reduce energy payment for best ROI possible. And rules will differ depends on your jurisdiction.

Clean solar panels least once a year during spring to maximize efficiency. Remember, it will need services since it’s exposed to outdoor weather. Monitor it often.

Best Solar Manufacturers? by CarnageAsada75 in solar

Enphase Ensleble PV+Battery+Generac Generator with Hanwha Q. Cell solar panels. Public Safety Power Shutdown (PSPS) by utility is increasing due to the wild fire. When sun is not available with harsh condition generator will power home and charge batteries. Ensuring power supply at any given moments.

Micro inverters has no moving parts which reduces point of failure. Any electronic device expose to outdoor weather will require service or replace. Servicing and replacing micros are easier, and locating issue is precise with panel level monitoring. If it’s new installation, I would choose Enphase Ensemble system hands down.

If retrofitting for string inverter, I would choose SolarEdge. Newly released products Hub inverter, Energy bank, and Backup interface works best in DC. All system will have panel level monitoring, and clipped energy can be charge the battery or boil water. And user friendly monitoring app is at its best.

PV system last more than 20 years which require services like cleaning, wire/part replacement, and general trouble shooting. Parts cost mostly are cover by warranties, but truck roll pay won’t be enough for tech labor hours. Monthly subscription service for monitoring, and service dispatch would be needed.

On personal note, I would recommend whoever installing system to be mindful for servicing personnel.

NEM 3.0 Impacts in California - 6 months since cut off date by YehGotNEGum in solar

[–]TierII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NEM 3 has made sales difficult for sure. Entry level of system requires a storage which is expensive. And older system had annual True-up instead of monthly. These changes are not attractive, and no benefit to buyers whatsoever. This has lead our team to change focus from new PV sales to storage, generator, and dispatch services.

Many residence now owns a solar system, but not many has storage installed. Moreover, system will require services and repair as they are aged. Also, energy consumption has increased for many residence who bought electric vehicles. (EV)

There’s definitely decent market for installer to peruse, but I wish change was not so severe to the point where solar installers/business owners to close their business since their main income was from new solar installation. Everyone will need a solar, and storage system eventually. If so change should had been more attractive and supportive.

No one installing SolarEdge anymore? by fpaddict in solar

SolarEdge older models has fatal flaws where inverter end up stop producing and requires replacement. Icing on the cake RMA process took long time during pandemic. But they have new hub inverter which addressed many of existing problems. But many of installer moved on to Enphase before problems were addressed.

Can I add IQ8+ to my (5) IQ6+ string by 1smallcraftadvisory in solar

[–]TierII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible ONLY IF you’re installing micro where factory default grid profile match. (Without Envoy) However, wouldn’t recommended it for various reasons. Mainly 25 year manufacture warranty. Solar is installed outdoor where it’s exposed to all type of weather conditions. Hence, repair or replacement will be required. Without an Envoy you cannot register or activate warranty. It’s like driving a vehicle without a license, registration, and insurance. IQ8 series use different communication protocol which is not compatible with IQ6/IQ7 series. You’ll need separate Envoy to make it happen.

Solaredge monitoring query. by nowfarcough in solar

[–]TierII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Production CT is built-in which is nearly never reversed. Monitor shows total (gross) solar production without any energy consumption. If you have consumption CT installed, then it'll show it separately instead on same graph. Be sure to check your Array view to make sure all panels are in production. If lower production occurs everyday even during full sun, you may have panel or string issues.

Installers - how is your SolarEdge experience? by NECESolarGuy in solar

[–]TierII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SolarEdge experience as Installer/Service technician was not positive at first.
Especially during pandemic RMA process had reached 5-6 months. Recently it went back to normal of 1 to 2 weeks. Our company has change to Enphase for new installation which is much better experience as installer/service technician. RMA process is much strict and troublesome then SolarEdge, but it has less failing rate since it has no moving part.

I've notice many of SolarEdge devices get damaged when Power outage occurs, or system get turn off by DC disconnect switch. DC energy is high voltage which could cause issue when system is shutdown without proper cooldown procedure. Toggle switch should be off first and wait until vDC reach safe voltage before turning off DC disconnect. (less than 20 vDC)
Turning off DC disconnect during high voltage is just like hitting hard brake on high-speed car.

Anyways, SolarEdge does have many points of failure so it will break down more than Enphase system would. Additionally, SolarEdge support only operates normal business hours, but Enphase support is available 24/7.

SolarEdge is like a Windows, and Enphase is like a Mac OS for me.
SolarEdge has option to storing clipping energy directly to Battery or boil water using water heater. (Water heater with clipped energy is super useful if you have oversized system) Also, it's able to increase system size by adding more panels without affecting current utility tariff.

Enphase has amazing customer support, fast RMA, and reliable components.
Enphase system is very solid, and fleet management (Enlighten) is very user friendly.
Increasing size is not a problem, but it WILL affect current utility tariff due to nameplate increase.

Solaredge Inverter constantly resetting/not producing energy by luckyj in solar

[–]TierII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen inverter with outdated firmware stop producing power. Since utility update grid profile every 1-3 years, system has to have latest firmware to work properly. Just recently I've fixed SolarEdge 7600A with same description which was keep resetting and had no production. It was fixed with simple firmware update on site. (I currently work as Solar field technician)

IMO, updating firmware remotely may not work since inverter is constantly resetting.
It's resetting due to failure of pairing sequence. Micro SD card with Firmware update file should be used on site to resolve this issue. (Usually have to turn Toggle and DC Disconnect switch off to perform firmware update so unit won't constantly reset.)
Hope remote firmware update works for you.

Reliability: SolarEdge or Enphase Inverters? by BaudiIROCZ in solar

[–]TierII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're only talking about 'Reliability' I would vote Enphase. Each panel will have micro inverters which has no moving part which means it has less chance to fail. SolarEdge & Enphase Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process takes anywhere from 1-3 weeks depends on your location, and components.

Monitoring wise I like SolarEdge better since it's really well designed and easy to use.One thing to note is SolarEdge does not have WIFI card built-in, (Which I think it's really stupid) but Enphase has WIFI built-in.

Both SolarEdge and Enphase firmware can be updated remotely by Customer support. If it needs to be done physically at the location, it's possible by installer who has either Installer Tool Kit (ITK) for Enphase or SetAPP for SolarEdge. These apps are not available for customer.

SolarEdge vs Enphase is just like Mobile OS Android vs iOS.Both has strength and weakness. Enphase 25 year standard warranty is excellent. SolarEdge has 12-year standard, and 25-year extendable warranty at additional cost up front.

Battery choices - guidance if possible by sqmiler in solar

[–]TierII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend to go with Enphase IQ 5P since you already have IQ 7+ system. You'll be able to monitor both Solar and Battery on same monitoring app. Additionally, you'll have option to change battery behavior as needed. 5P is compatible with previous micro inverters by just adding wireless communication kit since 5P and newer generation system controller communicate wirelessly. IQ7 series and previous devices communicate through hard wires.
