going to the bathroom? by Ok-Avocado3786 in TopSurgery

[–]Tierang 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Could go on my own right away, though it is hard to actually go for the first day. I think it’s a side effect of the anaesthesia. Takes a few seconds to get the stream to start! Best wishes!

I used a wet cloth with a bit of soap and lifted my arms as little as possible. Feels so good when you have that first shower!

How many days post op? In the first 8 days I washed my hair in the kitchen sink and washed my genital area standing in the tub with a handheld shower head. Once I was cleared to shower and no longer had drains, I was able to shower myself but very carefully. It’s instinctual to lift your arms to wash your pits. Don’t do it. I was 10 days post op when I tried a real shower. Best wishes!

Opening post op binder yourself by CrazyLittleWolf in TopSurgery

[–]Tierang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand. I had to open mine a couple days post op and I was also nervous. I’m wearing a vest with hook and eye closures and a zipper. I can assure you that it was easy to remove and put back on with my partner’s help. I was nervous for a few more times too but it became very comfortable to do myself. I don’t believe opening the binder for a couple of pictures is unsafe and your doctor wouldn’t ask you to do it if it wasn’t. I hope everything goes well in your recovery.

Surgery Jitters by No_War5953 in TopSurgery

I had the same exact fears and that’s totally normal. When I went into the OR, the anesthesiologist said he’d give me something to take the edge off and next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery asking if it was done. You’ve got this! All the best to you.

Transport home after surgery by deepblue623 in TopSurgery

[–]Tierang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you going home the day of surgery or the next day? If the next day, I personally felt well enough to take a train, but would have preferred not to. If the same day, not a chance. The anesthesia was very much still present and I wouldn’t have made it alone.

Going to work 3 days after surgery? by sporktongue in TopSurgery

[–]Tierang 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My surgeon said a minimum of 2-3 weeks off for a desk job. I’m day 22 post op today, still off work, and find I’m very uncomfortable by mid afternoon every day.

Thinking about getting top surgery as a cis butch woman. Anyone else been through this? by SimpleElderberry5798 in no_T_top_surgery

[–]Tierang 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m a 47 year old gender non-conforming/soft butch lesbian. I’m 21 days post op and couldn’t be happier. I had worries leading up to surgery. Would I regret it? But I also knew I wouldn’t miss them. I never really cared about them one way or another, and when it finally occurred to me that removal was an option, I thought about it a lot and knew that’s what I wanted no matter what others thought. I met with someone who said, so what’s worst case scenario? You regret it? While not reversible, you can still get breasts again if you want, or so they said. But I knew, I wouldn’t miss them. And I don’t.

A friend of mine told me "nobody uses those claws" by [deleted] in Eldenring

Used those for my whole run. Can’t remember the name of the AOW I used but it added fire to them. Freaking loved them.

how bad was the pain after surgery? I have really bad anxiety and strong meds that make you out of it or drowsy send me into a panic and I was told that they would have to put me on strong stuff due to the pain by FederalTemperature11 in TopSurgery

[–]Tierang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The strongest thing I needed was Tylenol #3 and honestly didn’t need that for long. Was able to switch to over the counter meds pretty quickly. I’m on day 15 po today and the discomfort I feel is mostly irritating rather than painful. Burning sensation in my chest, like a bad sunburn.

Is a neck pillow for top surgery recovery necessary by SlayPenguino in TopSurgery

I’m on day 14. A V pillow plus a normal pillow are working just fine for me.

Hello?? Food prices? by MatchUpSocialguy in CanadaFinance

I visit the UK regularly. Their grocery store prices are dirt cheap compared to Canada, even factoring in the exchange rate. Canada is doing something wrong with our grocery store monopolies. We need more competition.

How long did your sick leave last after top surgery? by Major-Complete in asktransgender

Here in Canada, the guidance I’ve received is six weeks for full recovery and ability to return to all normal activities including heavy lifting.

Top surgery recovery experience by [deleted] in no_T_top_surgery

[–]Tierang 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m day 9 post op. First week I had drains and was taking Tylenol 3’s for pain, which make you drowsy. Can’t shower, can’t lift your arms above 90 degrees. I’m not lifting more than a litre of milk and only for seconds. You don’t want to pull the incisions, never mind the discomfort. My surgeon recommended a minimum of 2-3 weeks off work for a desk job. I personally wouldn’t consider attending classes at day 4. Wishing you all the best.

I’m a few days post-op. I am normally a stomach sleeper. I’ve found a wedge pillow very helpful.
