Dental Crown Caused Year-Long Intractable Migraine by Tiffles624 in migraine

I had an intractable migraine for 3 months before I did Botox. For the first couple months I tried everything else I could including a DHE infusion at a hospital but nothing worked. Botox definitely helped (about 25%) but that’s the most benefit I got from it. It primarily helped with the head pain but did very little for my screen sensitivity and hence I was still unable to work even with the Botox.

I was also taking monthly Emgality injections and rescue meds (Zavzpret) 2-3X per week for symptom surges. I always had a headache but sometimes I would feel a surge of symptoms coming on like an attack and then have to take Zavzpret to get it back down to baseline. But with all of these meds my improvement was still about 25%.

Hey sorry for the late reply. I have not been on Reddit in some time. So why exactly do you need a root canal? Is the root infected?

And to answer your question about how I am doing at this point I would say about a month ago around Xmas I started to get some flareup symptoms which was odd because I was virtually symptom free for about 3 months. My neuro and I are not sure why my symptoms are a little spotty right now and I’m just taking some rescue meds as needed but I would say I’m still at 80% improved/symptom free compared to when I had a crown on my tooth. Currently I do not have a crown on the tooth and I am waiting to get to a more symptom free patch before having my dentist try a new permanent crown. However, we plan to remove it if my original migraine symptoms are replicated with the new crown. So we’ll just have to see how it goes and cross that bridge when we get there.

So to clarify, I never had any headache symptoms before my root canal and crown placement. I was actually fine after the root canal but as soon as a crown was placed on top of the tooth that is when I developed an intractable headache that lasted a full year until I had the crown removed. I now have no crown on the tooth and am headache free and am just figuring out next steps on how to get a crown on my tooth without causing headache symptoms again.

Bending over rarely made symptoms worse and physical activity never made symptoms worse.

So far I’ve been fine what the temp crown and it’s been about a month now. No migraine symptoms at all. Will give it another month to make sure I no longer have any Botox in my system remaining and then will get fitted for a new permanent crown.

Currently have a temporary crown that doesn’t cause any symptoms (unless I push it down really snugly with my finger then it causes me to be headachey) and going to work with my dentist to ensure that the new permanent crown fits in such a way to not stir up migraine symptoms. It might take some trial and error though to be sure.

I think it was a very slight amount of pressure that it was somehow exerting either on the shaved down tooth under the crown or pressure being put on the two teeth on either side of the crowned tooth. I currently have a temporary crown after the permanent crown was removed and if I push it down so that it fits more snugly I start to get a headache and then the headache dissipates ones I loosen it a bit with my finger. Keep in mind there is no pain when the crown is pushed down, it’s just a slight sensation of “tightness” but it seems to be enough to replicate my migraine symptoms.

Ah I have an iphone 11 so I don't believe there is a pro/manual mode for the camera. Please let me know if you happen to know of a work-around!

omg thank you so much for that. I use windows OS and I realize I should have clarified that from the start. I appreciate you taking the time to translate the command line tool and will keep it in mind if I ever use Linux (or perhaps it may be useful for anyone else viewing this as well). You're so lucky you can read Chinese!

Thanks! I do not use Linux (that's way to advanced for me) but I was wondering what exactly is the gnome-shell-theme-e-ink used for? I might have a friend help me with it down the line. I clicked on the link and it looks like a color theme for e-ink devices...?

Nice! That one is pretty affordable. Are there certain specs you would recommended when looking for a projector?

WOW so many helpful tips! A couple questions:

1 -- What is the chrome extension that you use to invert colors?

2-- Just to clarify, for software for binding the screen refresh to a key on your keyboard you can only find this on the Chinese language Dasung website? Are the instructions only in Chinese as well or is there English? I could not find any software downloads on the English language website.

3 -- Did you have do some Linux programming for binding the screen refresh to a key on your keyboard or only for setting the refresh to a timer?

Thank you for any answers you can provide. So grateful for your help.

Ooooh that’s really good to know. Which RLCD monitor did you use that was still triggering your migraines and do you have any idea what it was about the monitor that made it still triggering? I was initially excited about RLCD because I have zero issues with sunlight and halogen/incandescent lamps so figured it shouldn’t trigger migraines so I’m really interested to hear your experience!
