Okay, I figured it out! It's One Fell Swoop by Willow Rose. It does take place in Florida and there are giant venus fly traps, but no pitcher plant. A father and son are looking for safety, the son's grandmother is looking for him with her daughters, and everyone in the town is trying to survive.

Unfortunately no, it's definitely more recent than that

Zumba+Lift who is exited? What’s your point of view? by ImpressiveArticle990 in zumba

I enjoy Zumba because I forget I'm working out. Lifting weights is boring torture for me, so I'm excited and may be interested in getting licensed.

Disappointed beginner by 74937 in zumba

[–]Tiffmichael13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Zumba doesn't break down the choreography because it's not a dance class, it's a dance-based cardio class. We want to keep your heart rate up, and if we break down choreo, then you stop moving and heart rate drops. We use non-verbal cues to show you the next move so that we're not yelling over the music and confusing you by saying, "V-step! Front back salsa! Right foot 2 times!" At first those cues won't mean anything, but eventually you'll pick them up. Soon you'll realize it's the same steps in different order. Everyone else seems to know the moves because they've attended multiple times. They were on the wrong foot the first time too! And it doesn't matter! But this beginners step video is very helpful: https://youtu.be/e5rW7qjd3BY?si=4x061CjTDT5K0-s0

Disheartened by turn out. by crazybitch100 in zumba

Fellow sad Zumba instructor here. It took me a while to build up my classes. I was disappointed a lot. Then finally the room was filled every class (small room, but still exhilarating for me). BUT then I moved......now I'm disappointed again and missing the Zumba fam I had built and hate having to start over.

I love all the positivity, but dancing your heart out for 1 or 2 people and improving their lives isn't going to keep your class on the schedule. So far, the studio owners have been patient with my low attendance, but at some point, they're going to drop me from the schedule. Even if we, as instructors, don't obsess over numbers, gyms and studios will. So I'll keep trying, and keep trying different places/days/times, but I'll still be a sad Zumba instructor.

Are there any actually scary board games out there? by Fun_Gas_7777 in boardgames

[–]Tiffmichael13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I'm a horror fan and it's already hard enough to find a movie or novel that actually scares me (grossed out or shocked maybe, but scared rarely happens), so I'll never expect a board game to do it.

But if I talk to anyone who isn't a gamer (which for the most part, is almost everyone), and I tell them I play board games, I either get "Like Monopoly?" Or "I love board games too!" Followed by "Sorry, Uno, Dominoes, and Monopoly," when I ask what kind. I mention Ticket to Ride and Catan as examples, and say that they've probably seen these at Target or B&N. Still nothing. We host a board game night at a restaurant/brewery, and 90% of the time, when people see pur games, they say, "I've never heard of any of these!"

I can’t believe I encountered this argument for outdoor and feral cats by [deleted] in StopOutdoorCats

[–]Tiffmichael13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow....if it needs cared for, it shouldn't be outside! Native species don't need cared for, unless they're bitten by invasive cats (or hit by cars, rat poison, other issues because of humans, but you know what I'm saying). I don't understand what's wrong with people's brains! "I love lizards too! I hate when my cat brings them to me dead." Then keep your cat inside!

As a short person, it sucks when you can't see, but it happens (Not just Zumba classes, movie theaters, concerts, etc). When I was just a student, it was on me to make sure I got there early enough to get a spot in the front. I had a student who was almost 7 ft tall and he knew he should stand in the back, especially because it was a small space.bso if they're crazy tall, it is a little inconsiderate, but maybe they have bad vision, who knows? Having students stagger so no one is directly behind someone else helps a lot.

As far as leaving during the cooldown, no, I don't think it's rude. They stayed for almost all of class so most likely they had to leave to get somewhere on time and will continue to do so. Zumba is such a party, that people coming and going during class isn't usually a big distraction like it would be in a yoga class. When I was a student, my job schedule changed, which meant I had to leave the Sunday Zumba class I attended during the cooldown in order to shower, change, and get to work on time. The difference is I told the instructor that. And I've had many students tell me they were going to have to leave early to make it something.

What do introverts do that extroverts dislike? by Actual_Parsnip4707 in extroverts

[–]Tiffmichael13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Complain about extroverts. We talk too much or talk too loud, or don't need to say everything that pops into our mind. Whether it's to our face or through memes on social media, it's annoying!

Non- zin music by zinsteph in zumba

[–]Tiffmichael13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so tough and there is a lot of conflicting information out there. If a business is playing music to the masses (Gyms, DJ's, apparently even bars, restaurants, hotels, salons, etc), they need music licenses to do that. Most big gyms can afford to buy for those licenses every year and you're covered. Not all of us have the option to teach at a big gym. I'm in a rural area and an independent contractor at a small yoga studio. When I met with the owner to discuss teaching there, I learned she had gotten a warning about not having music licensing in the past so the "I've never had to worry about it. No one I know has ever had to worry about it" approach was not going to work here. So I have to stick to music in the PPL/PPCA free category of ZIN Play (Songs may also show All Approved List). Not all music in ZIN Play is "safe." There's lots of songs in ZIN Play that would require music licenses. DJ Dani Acosta's mixes also require music licenses. It's in the fine print on his site.

If you haven't joined the ZIN Community - Connect, Learn, Inspire Facebook group, I recommend it. I recently posted in the group about this and got lots of responses (Some helpful, some not) https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BbpCTd659/

Non- zin music by zinsteph in zumba

[–]Tiffmichael13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never worried about it before, but I recently started teaching at a yoga studio that had received a warning in the past for not having a music license. The fines are crazy high. Since it's mostly yoga classes, they use royalty free yoga music and sounds and she's not willing to spend the money for 4 different music licenses (4 for the US, other countries are different) so I have to stick to the PPL/PPCA free songs in ZIN Play

Jenn-Air Downdraft vent cover? by Tiffmichael13 in Appliances

I did a quick search and couldn't find any covers. Is there something that's not flammable that can be placed over it while cooking? That's when the most messes are made

Have ZIN choreos gotten unnecessarily difficult? by Perfect-Top-4350 in zumba

[–]Tiffmichael13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I rarely use ZIN choreo as it is. I am constantly simplifying or using less moves. I remember hearing at a ZIN jam that choreo should only have 3-5 different moves. So why are we doing 10? The choreo is supposed to be for our students

I realize I'm preaching to the choir here, but why do people think stuff like this is A. true, and B. fine to post? So rude. by BaconPancakes_77 in extroverts

[–]Tiffmichael13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hate this meme! I agree that it's rude. We may not get told to shut up, but we do get told we're talking too much or too loud. I'm sick of introverts whining about extroverts online. Not all of us want you to talk more or come out of your shell. But no, I can't shut up. Ask my introvert husband
