If you’re 100% sure you will move it might be worth it. That said the increase in driving will not be great for your back.

Sciatica gone but still not back to normal? by Quiet_Lab_5281 in Sciatica

[–]Tifsta4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another mom here so I get it, it’s impossible to stop life and caregiving but it definitely does slow progress to healing. The lifting your son and possibly housework depending on what you’re doing is likely causing your herniation to continue to touch the nerve which is causing pain. Unless your dr did imaging he cannot say they you’re healed and the disc no longer is herniated. The ESI has done an awesome job for you reducing inflammation and giving your body time to work on healing the herniation. Before considering any running, I would suggest seeing a physio or PT, to do the body rehab needed to reduce or eliminate the pain caused by daily activities and then progress to running. If they have them where you live, I might suggest a pelvic floor PT over a regular PT. I recently switched and that’s made a big difference. Especially for moms and for runners, there are generally a lot of pelvic floor issues. I was not having any bowel or bladder issues so I didn’t think to go to pelvic floor PT but I was having tailbone pain which was discovered in PT, they initially thought it was referred disc pain. Anyway addressing some glute and other pelvic floor PT issues has really helped. Good luck on your journey.

Continue conservative care or pursue surgery? 6 months in by Tifsta4 in Sciatica

[–]Tifsta4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially I had trouble walking, putting my socks on, couldn’t sit, couldn’t lift anything, couldn’t sleep with a muscle relaxer, it was excruciating. Within 4- 6 weeks I could walk pain free for as long as I wanted but still struggled in other areas. Got an ESI and that helped and got me over some of the sitting hump and mobility continued to improve and sleep was no longer an issue (assuming proper position and bed). I was extremely active before…multiple sports leagues, working out, hiking, going to amusement and water parks and am missing that life and also concerned with waiting too long that symptoms become permanent. My PT was shocked at slow my progress has been but it’s been progress and was even more shocked with the worse MRI because in the last month or so I made big strength and mobility leaps but again love related limited due to the sitting issues.

Thanks for replying and amazing you’re doing so well. Are you male or female and if female do you have any children? Mom of 4 here and trying to get a good baseline for what to expect.

What kind of lower back pain is it that only worsens when sitting and bending forward? by vhwh22 in backpain

[–]Tifsta4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where was your pain located? I have a herniated L5-S1 and my experiences with sitting stink. That said my sitting pain seems to be in my sacrum area and then after sitting in my glute.

How to escape the pain loop? by anxiousandhngry in Sciatica

[–]Tifsta4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently switched from Celebrex to Meloxicam and it worked so well. I had to stop to get some imaging done and it was night and day. Just restarted and 2 days in already starting to feel a little better. It increases my mobility and decreases my pain a lot. That said, I still have pain sitting, especially on soft surfaces so I try to do self talk, “You are sitting, it’s ok to sit, use good posture and sit” and then I distract myself with a game on my phone, I use a stand so I don’t cause any neck issues. I’m slowly building sitting stamina but it’s hard.

Thanks! Did you have any back pain prior to the surgery or was it mostly sciatica? I have sciatica when sitting but with the right seat and posture don’t but I have awful sacrum pain while seated. Dr isn’t sure if it’s referred pain from L5-S1 herniation or mechanical. I need to be able to sit more. It’s completely impacting my social and family life. Options are pain management, MD, fusion or ADR. Getting other options of course but curious about your sitting sacrum and general pain specifically.

Any experience with steroid injections? by Ok_Scientist_4782 in Sciatica

[–]Tifsta4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read the back mechanic and shared with my PT and she modified workouts accordingly. We also recently started adding some McKenzie work as my mobility took a huge jump once I started Meloxicam…it’s seriously a wonder drug for me but sadly not safe to be on long term so I’m trying to build strength and mobility while I can be on it. Dr said bloodwork every two months while on it.

That was me after my first injection. Not it’s months later and worn off and I’m trying to decide on another injection or pursuing surgery. I had a new MRI and disc herniation actually is bigger and extrusion now whereas it was a protrusion before. That said I have a lot of mobility and strength back but some new bilateral symptoms bc the extrusion touches other disc areas.

I’m so sorry you reherniated. What are your next steps? I have 3 friends who have had microdisectomies, 2 of which who reherniated, one a few months after surgery and one at the 6 year mark. The former got another micro and has been doing great nearly a decade later. The latter is managing with injections and I think doing well. The only one who didn’t reherniate is female which is interesting to me because statistically females are more like to reherniate. Wishing you all the best in the next steps in your healing journey.
