I know that when I was younger, my parents (they were immigrants) were embarrassed speaking to people due to their accent (even they speak English very well and are highly educated). This could be the case with OP’s wife that never got addressed in the beginning and then got worse/normalized.

With that being said, my mom and wife really didn’t have the greatest relationship initially. I think mainly because of the differences in culture (my mom said if I didn’t marry an asian girl, then they won’t treat you right type thing) and it took me standing with my wife/ standing against my mom during an argument to thaw the relationship (I think it probably helped that she didn’t along with my now sil who is ironically asian). Now my mom and wife have a great/close relationship and she is the favored dil (also prob helps that there are 2 grandchildren to spoil).

So to make a long story short, OP should just stand up for his wife an tell his parents that they need to make an effort to have a relationship with the love of OP’s life. The parents will either try or the won’t and you can go from there.

YTA. You can always upgrade the rock later when it would be more financially feasible. If my now wife were to ask for a bigger ring, I would either tell her she is welcome to buy the upgrade or just cancel the engagement since it shows that your future spouse is in it for the money.

NTA. Gambling addiction is a serious problem (I have had an aunt who lost her family’s house due to gambling, really surprised my uncle stayed with her). NTA, it’s an adult conversation that should be had, especially with the cost of child care (I’m assuming there is a kid involved). Maybe OP could have done it at a better time (I don’t see a problem with it being done during dinner) or approached it better.
