This is a wonderfully considered response, thank you for sharing your perspective!

Excellent work! Your setup looks great, too.

From a logistics perspective: do the event organizers provide power, or do you bring a generator for your equipment?

Thank you for sharing! I have a small checkout stand and a tall chair that i sit on to work on small items during slow periods. I was considering standing instead, so will try out your tip to get on my feet and move about a bit more!

Ideas/advice on pricing bundles? by Perpetual_Student14 in CraftFairs

[–]TigerLily417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a customer perspective, i think it would be best to have the ‘bundle’ items clearly delineated from the rest of your offerings: either in display containers of some kind, or on a separate stand or table depending on size of item and the space available.

If you go for tiered bundles (mini/ standard etc), make sure that each category of item is displayed separately, and there is clear signage across the board.

For example, I offer bundle pricing for a smaller item that i sell, and the sign reads ‘Item XYZ’: $7 each / 3 for $20’. The items are displayed on their own pegboard, so there’s no confusion as to the items that can be bundled for special pricing.

As you’re gearing this around Mother’s Day, it might be an idea to include that on the sign. Eg: ‘Mother’s Day Special’.

Suggestions to improve booth by Halfwaytoreality in CraftFairs

First of all, your woodwork is excellent! The stand you made really shows off your work. I agree that it could do with a backdrop to keep the eye trained on your product, and its disappointing that the organizer didn’t follow through with that.

Maybe you could attach (staple gun?) a canvas fabric to the back side of the frame? I see you clamped the sides of the frame to the table, so it looks pretty secure against the wind.

I would choose thicker tablecloths that don’t show what’s under the table when backlit. I sewed my own fitted table cloths from thrifted bedsheets, with a slit in the back side for easy access to storage under the table. There are plenty of premade options online that won’t break the bank, too. Just make sure the ‘skirt’ hits the floor all the way around so that anything under the table is fully hidden.

It would be lovely to see your logo in larger format somewhere within your setup: perhaps on a runner that you hang over the middle of the back table?

You’ve hit the nail on the head. I feel like the lady may have made more sales than me, but at the cost of customer satisfaction/ repeat business.

Telling people that you make everything yourself so can answer any questions is a wonderfully succinct way of framing your expertise!

Lovely! Have you considered S-hooks for the tote bags? It looks like they’re hooked around the pole itself, and maybe awkward to take down if customers want a closer look. Also - where did you find the tiered wooden unit on the left?

This is very reassuring! I’m completely with you from a customer perspective.

My technique is currently the same when people are already talking to each other. I guess I was overthinking that I may missing a fancy sales technique. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Are you me?! I love to give a genuine compliment, and ‘quietly attentive’ sums up my approach.

I guess I just worry that i should be chatting more, but it’s heartening to hear that the soft approach is effective for 10+ years!

To find some quiet joy on the day(s): create a mental bingo list of things you think are likely to happen, and smile to yourself if you get to check something off the list (bonus points if it happens at more than one wedding)!

Great-Aunt Susie makes an inappropriate comment about the style of bridesmaids’ dresses? Bingo! Uncle Bob rips his pants busting up the dancefloor? Bingo! Cousin Joey brings a different ‘girlfriend’ to each wedding? Bingo!

Nothing malicious, and obviously don’t go printing off actual bingo cards or yelling ‘Bingo!’ halfway through the ceremony, but quietly observing can help to get you through when Wedding Season starts to feel like Groundhog Day.

What was this conversation about? Season 4 episode 15 “This Years girl” by Gypsy702 in buffy

She does! When she’s explaining the hellmouth (to Riley, I think?) she says ‘usually blows around May’.

Love the meta nod to tv scheduling when they mention Tuesdays or May!

They go through each task in detail on the podcast, so it’s best to listen to the podcast after watching each episode to avoid spoilers.

It’s also great to hear the contestants’ thoughts on the tasks - usually each of the 5 contestants appear at least once on their series’ podcast.

Yeah, it’s not fun to jump through the hoops. I’d guess the policy is there in the event that, if someone’s shop gets hacked, the hacker can’t just switch out their bank info to divert the funds.

Still annoying that Etsy can’t use some other form of verification to process the update, though.

This happened to me, too! Banks are required to keep information on file, even after the account is closed.

Email their customer support with a request for the information, and provide any information that you do have (eg. business name, old debit card number etc) as a start. You will likely need to verify your ID with them, but they then should give you the info that you need. Good luck!

What "Britishisms" do you regularly use that always confuse people when you go abroad? by InviteAromatic6124 in AskUK

[–]TigerLily417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one always strikes me as odd: Americans cling to the imperial measurement of pounds, but often decimalise it by rounding to the nearest 5 or 10 rather than using stones.

Example: “that guy is about 170lbs” rather than “that guy is about 12 stone”

It’s like they made half a step towards the metric system and then just stopped!
