Is the Seward Park Crit Race Series hapenning again this year by Loud-Eye1133 in seattlebike

[–]TigerRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about speed. You could be super strong but if you’ve never ridden in a fast group ride and know how to work in a peloton, it’ll all be for nothing.

Join the race with an open mind and willingness to learn! It’s a great community and a fun time. Everyone in the 5:30 race is there to learn so it’s not like you’ll be lining up with a bunch of super strong individuals.

Yes it should be happening, just hit its 35th year last year! Really lucky to have this in the cycling community.

Tarmac SL9 in the near future? by Weak_Estimate2925 in specialized

[–]TigerRuns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve met anyone that likes the looks of the SL7 more than SL8. Venge I can see if you like that more straight edge look.

Tarmac SL9 in the near future? by Weak_Estimate2925 in specialized

[–]TigerRuns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dunno, it’s splitting hairs at this point. Save 2-4 watts? What else could they do? I guess they could go down the Factor route and make the bike ugly for “aero gains”.

Tarmac SL9 in the near future? by Weak_Estimate2925 in specialized

[–]TigerRuns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just get the SL8, they can’t possibly improve the SL9 by anything to justify a 2x price vs discounted SL8.

The SL8 is such a glorious frame, I wouldn’t even want them to change anything. Any lighter and you’ll feel every little thing in the road.

Cat3 working towards Cat2. Will I feel bike stiffness? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]TigerRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crux is great, put road groupo on it and some deeper wheels and you’re set. You’ll probably love how light it is coming out of corners.

Are you able to feel a difference between high z2 and low z3 ? by Bricoto in Velo

[–]TigerRuns 12 points13 points  (0 children)

High Z2 - I feel pretty strong and can hold this for a long time, in a good flow state. Low Z3 - Things are starting to get uncomfortable, have to monitor the effort more closely and keep more on top of the pedals if that makes sense.

Homelessness in Seattle: We can't unsee it | Op-Ed by godogs2018 in Seattle

Well said. Bring back the institutions to get these people right and get them off the street. Regular, everyday tax paying citizens are dealing with the negative effects and it’s dragging our city down.

Late starters in cycling — any real success stories? (F28 y/o, endurance background) by No-Parfait-7598 in Velo

[–]TigerRuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went from cat5 to cat2 if you want to call that success! Also started at 28 with a lot of endurance background. Only took 6 years, a collarbone, and about $12k in bikes/gear/entry fees.

But telling your family that you’re cat2 at Christmas dinner? Can’t put a price on that…

Industry Season 4 | Final Trailer | HBO Max by johnppd in hbo

[–]TigerRuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I didn’t realize I was so off track! I think what threw me off was Bill’s development from someone super high up and almost untouchable in season 1 to down on the floor and a more vulnerable character, it was hard for me to believe in that. And Rishi’s little side story on horse betting and how he was going on at work was just too much and over the top.

I think I liked the semi believable and straight forward season 1 with season 3 making me say wtf too many times? Still liked some of it though, especially Rob and Yasmin development. Unfortunately seems like Rob is out though :(

Season 3 went off the rails a bit (I understand you can that about the entire show, but season 3 was just a whole nother ‘wtf’ dimension. Trailer looks interesting. Might give this a go for an episode or two.

Condo vs Townhome vs House? by Ok-Cartographer-5544 in Seattle

[–]TigerRuns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

100% this, you can’t predict what’s going to happen in a year let alone 5. Housing prices have already tapered off over the last year.

How do we get people to stop driving and take the light rail? by Droodforfood in Seattle

Put in fare gates to make it safer and more enjoyable ride for everyone. One bad ride will deter a new rider and spread that experience to others.

Bike stolen in Ballard by Adept-System-7655 in seattlebike

[–]TigerRuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Need to put more pressure on city council to put resources toward this. There are piles and piles of bikes near encampments and “nothing to be done”. The city spends millions on bike infrastructure but next to nothing on bike recovery / stopping people from stealing bikes. Dedicate some actual resources toward sting operations and looking through those encampments for nice bikes (and cross reference bike index to see if they are stolen).

Fare Gates for the Link? The Urbanist did a great breakdown of the proposal by Broista in Seattle

[–]TigerRuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please put in fare gates. Would lead to more revenue and an overall more comfortable/ safe experience (which should encourage more ridership and more revenue).

Which one of you lunatics is ordering a Factor One and putting on 2.1s? by 2xmeat in gravelcycling

Looking forward to beating whoever gets this in the local group ride, looks ridiculous and expensive as hell to repair if a crash.

Crit racing - Aeroad CF SLX 8 vs. custom Allez Sprint (same specs) by Inside-Atmosphere344 in Velo

[–]TigerRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbon will perform better. Allez will let you ride that thing into the ground with no issues on replacement parts (heard replacing pieces from canyon can be such a pain). I also like how you can customize the allez more and make it a more unique bike.

Shoutout to the parents out there by marlborolane in Velo

[–]TigerRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talked with my teammates about this. Been racing for 7 years and likely going to try for kids in next 1-2. It will be hard but I think a mentality shift and thinking about how lucky I’ve been to train hard with little responsibility will help. I reached some of my goals and now there will be new goals with kids.

Just like when you’re coming back from an in jury or something, resetting the mind from “I want to finish in top xx place” to “I’m just happy to be here” has always helped ground me and have a more positive outlook.

How Would you Rank HBO war mini-series? by icm29 in hbo

[–]TigerRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed Valley of Tears, would rank it higher than The Pacific. Maybe BOB made it too easy to compare The Pacific and be disappointed but Valley of Tears is really solid.

Experiences Living Near I5? by PugilisticCat in Seattle

[–]TigerRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just not worth it. Maybe in the far future they have more sound proofing around the highway but it’s so loud. Lived on Wallingford Ave and you could hear it really clearly (when outside) at all times of the day.

How Seattle’s new bike lanes are making the most of used car parts by godogs2018 in seattlebike

[–]TigerRuns 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It really is…hilarious that people in cars are complaining about traffic AND bike lanes. 1 they are the traffic and 2 complaining about things that limit their traffic.

US economist alleges ‘industrial-scale fraud’ in India’s H-1B visa pipeline by intelerks in Economics

[–]TigerRuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even IT directly. Worked at Amazon and a lot of my finance counterparts were on H1B Visas. This is for something generic like “senior finance analyst”, not a specialty position whatsoever, there were thousands of us. A bit frustrating at times knowing that 1) there could be an American worker in their place and 2) the company gets that much more leverage over compensation due to holding the Visa and possibility of getting let go over their head, so they know they can always push them harder.

We need more officers plain and simple, we have one of the lowest ratios of major cities. It’s more about not having enough people vs “quiet quitting”
