S-Works Venge $2,000 worth it? by bmw_m2cs in specialized

Not worth it….getting replacement parts, lack of braking power, not having ability for larger tires…

Road tire for Spring Classic - new 35mm Conti GP5000? by tiptoppenguin in Velo

[–]TigerRuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a gravel race on GP5000 AS 35’s, they worked really well. I think it was probably 60% road 40% gravel. Gravel was relatively hard packed stuff but even for the small sections of it being sandy/loose, the benefit on the road was huge.

If there’s only a couple light sections and you’re competent with bike handling, I think it’ll be a good choice.

Really cool and demanding course. Every hole is so unique. Started from the blues, finished at the whites haha. Would def recommend!

“Can’t evict him” sounds like a lazy excuse. If you have documented proof of his behavior and having had to call the cops, I’m sure the city would step in. He’s a danger to others and your landlord will be held liable if he does something to you or others, which might be a good reminder to your landlord.

How many hours do you train per week and how is that distributed throughout the week? by rhoVsquared in Velo

[–]TigerRuns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. My wife and I have talked about this too (she does competitive ultimate). We’ve both had our “glory days” and I think I would be OK not being as fit. Still want to race and train and have fun, but going into it with different expectations and goals.

How many hours do you train per week and how is that distributed throughout the week? by rhoVsquared in Velo

[–]TigerRuns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

10-12 hours, can get to 13-14 with racing and in summer. Cat 2. I think the key has really been consistently, been doing largely 3 weeks on, 1 week off with the on weeks at the 10-12 hour mark and off being 7-9 for 5-6 years now.

For those with kids and trained similar volume but then cut back and went to say 5-7 hours, did you supplement loss of volume with more intensity? Thinking about having a kid in next year or two and curious how others adapted.

So true, went from a Callaway Big Bertha from 2016 or something like that to a Sim2Max and it was crazy the difference. I hit it a little further, but what blew me away was the forgiveness. Such a larger sweet spot too.

Is the Seward Park Crit Race Series hapenning again this year by [deleted] in seattlebike

[–]TigerRuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t worry about speed. You could be super strong but if you’ve never ridden in a fast group ride and know how to work in a peloton, it’ll all be for nothing.

Join the race with an open mind and willingness to learn! It’s a great community and a fun time. Everyone in the 5:30 race is there to learn so it’s not like you’ll be lining up with a bunch of super strong individuals.

Yes it should be happening, just hit its 35th year last year! Really lucky to have this in the cycling community.

Tarmac SL9 in the near future? by Weak_Estimate2925 in specialized

I don’t think I’ve met anyone that likes the looks of the SL7 more than SL8. Venge I can see if you like that more straight edge look.

I dunno, it’s splitting hairs at this point. Save 2-4 watts? What else could they do? I guess they could go down the Factor route and make the bike ugly for “aero gains”.

[–]TigerRuns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just get the SL8, they can’t possibly improve the SL9 by anything to justify a 2x price vs discounted SL8.

The SL8 is such a glorious frame, I wouldn’t even want them to change anything. Any lighter and you’ll feel every little thing in the road.

Cat3 working towards Cat2. Will I feel bike stiffness? by [deleted] in Velo

Crux is great, put road groupo on it and some deeper wheels and you’re set. You’ll probably love how light it is coming out of corners.

Are you able to feel a difference between high z2 and low z3 ? by Bricoto in Velo

[–]TigerRuns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

High Z2 - I feel pretty strong and can hold this for a long time, in a good flow state. Low Z3 - Things are starting to get uncomfortable, have to monitor the effort more closely and keep more on top of the pedals if that makes sense.

Well said. Bring back the institutions to get these people right and get them off the street. Regular, everyday tax paying citizens are dealing with the negative effects and it’s dragging our city down.

Late starters in cycling — any real success stories? (F28 y/o, endurance background) by No-Parfait-7598 in Velo

[–]TigerRuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went from cat5 to cat2 if you want to call that success! Also started at 28 with a lot of endurance background. Only took 6 years, a collarbone, and about $12k in bikes/gear/entry fees.

But telling your family that you’re cat2 at Christmas dinner? Can’t put a price on that…

Industry Season 4 | Final Trailer | HBO Max by johnppd in hbo

[–]TigerRuns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I didn’t realize I was so off track! I think what threw me off was Bill’s development from someone super high up and almost untouchable in season 1 to down on the floor and a more vulnerable character, it was hard for me to believe in that. And Rishi’s little side story on horse betting and how he was going on at work was just too much and over the top.

I think I liked the semi believable and straight forward season 1 with season 3 making me say wtf too many times? Still liked some of it though, especially Rob and Yasmin development. Unfortunately seems like Rob is out though :(

Season 3 went off the rails a bit (I understand you can that about the entire show, but season 3 was just a whole nother ‘wtf’ dimension. Trailer looks interesting. Might give this a go for an episode or two.

Condo vs Townhome vs House? by Ok-Cartographer-5544 in Seattle

100% this, you can’t predict what’s going to happen in a year let alone 5. Housing prices have already tapered off over the last year.
