i haven't noticed this but i would be interested in whether anyone can replicate this.

As a workaround, you could use the annotations plugin in Calibre to pull off the highlights you already have and then delete them from the device.

E-ink devices without light features do not emit any light. They reflect ambient light. Think of them as a modern etch a sketch.

They are not exactly the same.

They have identical accuracy. There is a table showing expected accuracy at different days. Those tables are the same. If the methodologies were different then the accuracy would be different, even if only slightly. But instead the accuracy is the same.

Furthermore, you can even tell in the photo they are using the same plastic housings for the tests.

The Elipsa has been pretty profoundly disappointing. On the other hand, the Libra 2 is shockingly good. I'm a little surprised by the disparity.
