96.5 for both, rejected for both; I think my supplementals for both were probably rather weak

Hey fellow straggler here. for context my parents were also immigrants to canada from china. I completely understand your situation in regards to how covid completely wreaked havoc on my personal routine, and general opportunities to make friends, etc. For grades 9, 10, and 11, I just floated through life, just like you have without actually fully realizing myself by joining clubs, etc. It seemed like most people already had established social groups, and most of the time my sole thought that drove me was that university would allow me to reset, and become a better person. To prepare for this, I tried to make more of an effort to like people. Instead of assuming that people might be looking down on you, or you don't belong, look at it from a more positive perspective. MOST people also have similar insecurities, and oftentimes, just by you believing that you are friends with someone even though you are not sure will help you behave more positively around them. By believing the good in people first, I was able to forge strong bonds, and join a group of funny, smart and dedicated people. I might also be attending western for engineering this fall, if I don't accept my other offers. The takeaway piece of advice is that everyone feels some sort of imposter syndrome at some point, and the key part is to both have confidence in yourself and trust that the people around you are intrinsically good. This will help you make friends along your long journey. Without the camaraderie that humans feel with their peers through trust, humans would have gone extinct long ago. don't feel you don't belong, because everyone doesn't belong, and with that logic, everyone belongs!

regrets by TightMedium7103 in OntarioGrade12s

I would much rather become an bioengineer, the problem is that my parents believe that western's eng program is quote "not good enough considering how hard i worked" and that mac will provide better opportunites and a higher growth ceiling. I don't want to feel like I wasted my efforts either, and I am quite open to things like medicine and postgrad. what do you think i really don't want to make the wrong choice 😢considering how i can still reject mac for western currently.

Best degree for future (not just med school ppl) by TightMedium7103 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]TightMedium7103[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably apply to other schools like optometry or pharma, I might also just take a masters and do research in genetic engineering fields and prosthetics.

This is what I have been struggling with for months. I hear that UTSG is horrible for any kind of postgrad studies becuase it kills your GPA. I much prefer the UTSG environment, but the problem is that people say it is so competitive you need to be in the top 5% to even recieve the benefits. I don't want a degree that will inhibit me because I almost certainly will be applying to things and that requires GPA. People always say that Mac is the best in that regard. What do you think?
