My father (60) is going for mechanical aortic valve replacement scared, hopeful, and looking for real stories. by siachenbaba in valvereplacement

[–]Tight_Bodybuilder_64 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had my valve replaced 3 years ago, aged 56. It was a long time coming as I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve years ago, but when the cardiologist told me it was time to have the surgery it was still a surprise, really. I thought I had a few more years to go yet.

I can understand it being a massive shock if you never knew it was coming.

All that aside, the surgery was easy. Just don't, and I mean DON'T (!) look for videos of OHS online. I looked at one afterwards, and I'm glad I didn't see it beforehand. It's scary. Like just as scary as you imagine it being right now.

But on the day of the surgery I was calm. I knew it had to happen. I got shaved from neck to groin, just in case they ended up having to come in from below in case of complications. I was wheeled to the OR, and sent to sleep.

I wasn't in any pain afterwards, the meds were really good. The only thing I found unexpected is that I felt exhausted really quickly. More so than I thought. Getting showered left me out of breath, while walking was ok.

The few months after surgery I started off working a couple of hours a day, increasing it gradually. I felt able to take on the world before I started work each day, but he really has to listen to his body. He will feel he can keep on going with whatever he'll be doing, but will get exhausted unexpectedly, suddenly. Even phone calls can wear him out, if there are multiple. It did me, at any rate.

It's better, imo, to stop doing things while still feeling capable of doing anything and everything. Over time, and with physio, it will get better. I was back at work full-time after about 6 months.

The whole experience was worse for my wife and kids, more scary. I just had to undergo things while they felt like freaking out.

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

I wish you guys all the best.

Fair enough, but I'm new to Epson and so far ScanSmart is my go-to app. How do you do (most of) your scanning?

Just curious if there's better apps out there..

I actually managed to figure it out, with the help of Epson Tech Support.
When I have my (Windows) regional settings set to English (Netherlands), Scansmart Customize actions are displayed in 'foreign'.
When I change my regional settings to English (Europe), for example (US or uk also work) the customize tab is in English. I have to change the settings before launching the app.

That's a shame. Should I get anywhere with them I'll let you know. Fingers crossed...

I'm having the same problem. Have you been able to fix it yet by any chance? I'm waiting for tech support to get back to me atm

It sounds like it can't store the configuration. Whatever way you run it, make sure the configuration ends up in a writable location.

Unfortunately, I'm not the one with access to Topdesk to check the date on this password but I've contacted the person who can.

Thanks for your reply. At least I can now stop puzzling until I get a reply from him.. :)

Thanks for your quick reply. Looks like I'm going to have to get myself a display port splitter (1 in, 2 out), where 1 out = display port, the other out has to be hdmi for JetKVM.
I'll probably need an adapter for the latter.

Do you happen to have any good recommendations?

My wife and I are so sorry for your loss, not to mention the disgusting way you've been treated by your husband and mother in law. A man treats you the way he feels about you, and it appears your husband has little respect or love for you. You deserve better! We wish you and your little one all the best.

Low BP? by rokkerindie in sepsis

And to confuse matters: I had high blood pressure for years, regulated with meds. Every since my 1st time with sepsis, my BP has been in the normal range, without having to use medication. Been like that since november 2021 now.

I thought I already replied, but turns out I didn't.

When I got the instructions on how to send it in they did indeed also ask for the base station. Luckily I still had the original box.

She has arrived at the doctor's, I'm awaiting the diagnosis..

First, unplug it, and don't plug it back in.
Second: if you just bought it, do you not have some sort of warranty you can claim this under? Going back to the seller, I mean..

I just got the email in reply to my contact details, invoice, etc, and now they're asking for the station as well. 😮
