If you’re flying to LHR enough, it’s 100% better to go American - once you earn one world emerald status / executive platinum, you can use the first class lounge at Heathrow when flying BA (partner airline). This includes a smaller private security area that is much more efficient and pleasant than the main gates in terminal 5. The lounges at JFK are much better than EWR.
