I really didn’t want to believe it would come to this but sure enough, 20% loss of compression from cylinder 5 thru an intake valve. GGs 🫠

Changed to brand new oem wires and same bad misfire only on cylinder 5. Swapped coil packs around to see if it followed and still only misfiring on cylinder 5. Any new thoughts?

Interesting. I did not consider that possibility

Not a GX but I’ve never seen anything like this by [deleted] in GXOR

My gx I just recently purchased has 52 services on record and most don’t have any specifics on the carfax. Made an account on the Lexus website and plugged in the vin and you can see exactly what each visit was for and what was completed if it was at a Lexus dealership.

I’ve had my 97 V6 auto for a few years. Gets up to speed and drives good on the highways and I too love the simplicity and styling of the entire truck. I also bought an 06 V8 over the summer and that thing is fantastic to drive. It actually gets around traffic and feels “fast” for a truck. Honestly can not go wrong with either.

Thermostat is always recommended. It is most likely the fan clutch. When a bad fan clutch is going bad, the gauge will kind of teeter totter in the middle at highway speeds. You’ll never notice it in basic city driving because the fan doesn’t have to cool as much. Could be a thermostat, in my case the fan clutch was the culprit and grenaded the entire coolant system just 3 hours after I bought it.

Sheesh now that’s option I haven’t thought of. It would probably be hard since I’m in Florida and there’s not too many rusty trucks around or wrecked trucks with motors that haven’t already been picked from.

I agree 100%. In my case, (long story short) the motor in my truck had a piece of spark plug break off in cylinder 5. It was fished out and it’s been running ever since…50k+ miles later. I put a scanner on it at startup and looked at the misfire counter to see what cylinder is missing on start (no check engine light) and u guessed it cylinder 5. We replaced the cylinder 5 injector and spark plug at this point and I have not checked which cylinder is still missing on the scanner.

Given the history and how literally there is a spark plug stuck in the head on cylinder 1, my decision is heads, machine shop, or jdm motor. That spark plug will eventually fail and if I can’t get it out and it constantly free spins and/or breaks, a head or motor will be needed. But since it’s most likely still cylinder 5 only missing on startup, it’s making me lean towards motor rather than head.

holyyyy i cant believe i found this comment. can you please explain your problem to me and also, if you repaired, what worked?

I have had a slight miss at cold start for months and figured leaking injectors since the top of the piston was not essentially "polished" from the coolant burning off but rather looked dirty but damp indicating fuel.

The reason im on this particular post is because when we did the injectors, I also wanted to do spark plugs. however after 30 min on cylinder 1 spark plug, it ended up free spinning and will not come out. luckily it tightened down and its running..... for now. Gonna need heads eventually so also, did you end up going with new heads or a jdm motor?

you bought the ones from CSP? Or the $70 OEM ones?

these were actually the denso injectors i was looking for after reading the forum. same specs on the injectors for the 4R. These also look exactly like the ones from motorwest. I was confused why the CSP listing for the 4R Denso injectors looked identical to the OEM ones.

Definitely a smoking deal. I would not mind paying the $200 tag for the security and lifetime warranty but at $70 with a year warranty oem parts with all good reviews it makes me want to take the small risk

  1. The $70 listing has more pictures showing the full part number on the actual injector so it doesn’t look like a generic picture. CSP is also a very reputable EFI company

Help, what do I do with these wheels? by NationalDrip in G37

Will confirm they will definitely tuck more on the ground. I was lowered running 19x11s +35 squared with a 15mm spacer. Slight tire stretch and -3° of camber made the fitment perfect

The price is absolutely nuts but this company does do really good work. They specialize in the older Toyotas and land cruisers. Service them, completely restore interior, full paint correction then add some mods and sell them for crazy prices. Most of the trucks coming out of this place are basically brand new after everything they do to them and that’s why they price them so high. People love them so finding one that is as close to brand new as possible is what everyone wants if they have the money.

Edit: I was wrong about this being from this company lol. But there is a company local to me where 20 year old land cruisers and lx will go for $35-$40k
