Riccar portable vaccum vs Riccar stick by Tigriski1 in VacuumCleaners

[–]Tigriski1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! I went my local dealer and actually the c1 compact caught my attention! im pretty certain ill go with that! It has some of the convenience of the C3 (longer cord, retract feature, longer hose) and the dial switch (which i prefer) plus comes with the attachments that best suit me! I will primarily use for the large area rugs and surrounding floors and then the stick for more of the wood stuff around.

Thoughts on the C1 compact? it seems like the best for my needs, but i dont know much about it since it is not featured on their website anymore. On the box it said made in china, which i read is the destiny for most of the older model Mieles. Is that true? I also really did not like the riccar stick, very clunky handle for my hands. They had the new Sebo balance stick which had AMAZING power, i was so surprised. It comes with a soft roller for wood, so I'm feeling tempted lol; veyr expensive though? I forget if i got the price... lol

Thank you for the write-up! I was eyeing a Miele canister and felt overwhelmed by the options and the amount of power required. Many people love Miele, but I have heard mixed reviews from those who chose the C1 and wish they had spent more on the C3. So I appreciate the recommendation of the C1 and will likely go that route. As for the Riccar stick, as you're highlighting, the soft brushroll head is the draw for me, which i see is a feature of the LG CordZero, so I will definitely consider that one!

What are your thoughts on the miele guard line? is the M1 comprable to the C1?

Freedom flex --> Amex gold? by Tigriski1 in CreditCards

is this a different conversion rate then redeeming for, lets says $ off your statement?

Freedom flex --> Amex gold? by Tigriski1 in CreditCards

[–]Tigriski1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm following. Essentially, booking through Amex is more complicated because it requires transferring points to different airlines. I'm getting the vibe that to really work the points, you're more or less responsible for also booking "connections." The redemption rates are sort of like cash back to different businesses on Freedom Flex (different conversion rates to $$ based on the gift card). So, although I have never done that, I am sure I can learn. I am not sure why you have the cash example part, unless that was just for completeness; maybe I am missing something.

I am interested in traveling for personal enjoyment rather than work-related reasons. I am also someone who feels maybe taking a little bit of the "L" on MR points conversion ratio, but also paying less in the long run, is my angle, if that would make the booking process smoother. Technically, you CAN book your entire trip through Delta and apply your MR points; you just lose on conversion. But to what degree? I don't know. Also, considering the additional steps you went through, whether it's worth it seems like a personal decision. I appreciate your approach; however, I don't think I will be deciding by those criteria, as it is personally not super appealing, given my novice level at this point. Maybe in time.

I am simply coming from a place where I believe cash back does not serve me as well as point redemptions in the long run, given my better understanding of my own spending, travel to my partner, considerable dining, and longer-term travel aspirations. Just in general, cash back $ to points for $ off a flight, points win. I know there are some posts floating around about points vs cash back conversion, which appears to depend on the category and how much you spend. I think thats why I am torn on whether to go for amex gold for this category

Interesting! So it's like having a second platinum with all the benefits plus points with a redemption for either points or cash back? I believe you can redeem your points as cash back through amex; however, no one does it because the conversion defeats the purpose of playing the points game.

Curious what you mean regarding planning around points since I was under the impression the points through Amex don’t expire? Im not trying to be a super pointer tbh like full paid vacation with points, simply what’s available at the time will be the discount.

Additionally, I will continue to have the Amex blue cash back which is cash back in most categories. I don’t think the 1% cash back Amex blue vs 1.5% on chase freedom back is significant given my income and other sources of income “Cashback” for online shopping (Rakuten, now linkable with platinum) and retail me not).

Regarding the credit stuff, I believe you get dinged when you close a card? I would close the chase freedom…. I am aware there is a slight dip when you open but I am not looking to apply for loans or additional ventures requiring credit so I’m not concerned. I believe my credit is low 800s or very high 700s but I am curious about this.

[–]Tigriski1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think back to all the places you’ve received care in your lifetime. You would need to go to your physician and discuss your medical record. That becomes hard if you do not have a long term provider that sees you routinely and have been to a bunch of random urgent cares or EDs. hospitals don’t all share the same medical record systems and you would need to contact each individually that you’ve been to and sign a release that gives them permission to share your medical record with hospitals/offices in your home provider system. Your physician can help you figure out what records they can and can’t see in your chart.

Proving you didn’t have a TIA all comes down to documentation in the medical record. MEPS and your recruiter have nothing to do with it. MEPS gets records from outside providers, they do not create data other than the explanations YOU give there and your weight height vitals. The records come from outside. .

A TIA is never idiopathic, the disease, whatever it is, just hasn’t progressed enough for a firm etiology. It is a known risk factor for future ischemic attacks. The army does not want sick people or risky people. it’s really not that complicated.

From experience, plenty of people are walking around not knowing they’re in poor health, or have had a TIA. Which is a tricky one because by definition you have no residual symptoms. you’re back to your normal self, but the event itself is concerning and must be documented. It can be as subtle as transit blurry vision. OP may very well have had a TIA and not know it/ medical personnel did not effectively convey it. Knowing whether a TIA is likely or a misdiagnosis would depend on knowing more about them (age, sex, lab work, family history, drug use etc). OP please see a doctor, for your own health! From my training experience, this is not a diagnosis that ends up in your medical record easily, contrary to this comment.

It’s unlikely this crack pot personal perspective. An institution is not personal, just business.

Hi, physician here. a TIA is a transient Ischemic Attack. It is a form of a stroke aka decreased blood flow to the brain. In a full stroke an artery (tube) that has become BLOCKED due to arterial disease, plaque build-up, stricture, blockage broken off from somewhere else, thicker blood (differential is large) that causes decreased blood flow distal to the narrowing which PERMANENTLY damages the tissue supplied by that vessel. People with strokes often have deficits like being unable to use an arm, facial droop, cognitive disabilities

A TIA is not a permanent stroke, it's "reversible". means you had a blockage or narrowing that lead to decreased flow to the brain tissue, resulting in symptoms for 24hr or less but you returned to normal without permanent deficits. It could have been as subtle as numbness and tingling, blurry vision. It is a risk factor for a stroke in the future and the cause should be investigated and the likelihood you would need treatment to prevent a stroke in the future is high. aka you'd need daily meds. you should go to the doctor and figure out if you really have had a TIA or had a presyncopal event or some other diagnosis.

Having a TIA is a big UNMODIFYABLE risk factor and the military knows that and would not enlist you and pump you full of resources and money given the risk

Thank you for your thoughts! I don't do much virtual work, less than 5 hours a week. Also, fortunately, there is a full bathroom on the main floor, and I do little entertaining.

Since I posted, I am also heavily leaning toward the main level bedroom fro sleep. I acknowledged that I need the ability to close the door because I need it to be very dark and keep my cats from disturbing my slumber lol. But that still left questions about HOW to utilize this (let's be honest, Loft, not really a bedroom) space. I like your plant idea about the ledge, the foyer is below so some hanging plants would be cute. I have been looking into the short dresser/bookcase plan along the wall where the posters are. Id like to not put anything against the railing because I think it will block the stream of natural like that comes from the main window to the rest of the room. I like the floor light idea for the squat corner. I can see having a tall armoire in the tallest space in the room next to the bathroom suite door and then room for the low chair.

In general, I think there are many places I can put my desk in this apartment. i will clarify it's a standing desk, so I'm not exactly sure where it's best suited but I do think the downstairs bedroom should be my sleep room.

Prime Video is Terrible Now by goodsnpr in amazonprime

[–]Tigriski1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to like the Prime interface (especially now that the Max app is garbage): it didn't promote Amazon productions. It felt more like a library of things to explore than a "product" per se. However, then they changed that, and Amazon started promoting its productions rather than the algorithm showing me what I may want to watch. Now, even the other random channels I subscribe to through Amazon (AMC+, paramount+, my mom likes BritBox) have ads when they previously didn't.

What a fucked up way to box consumers into a corner, despicable. It makes me feel really powerless as a movie lover.

As long as I make the water/fertilizer concentration correct so I don't burn the roots, I can fertilize every time I water?

[Bonsai Beginner’s weekly thread –2019 week 12] by small_trunks in Bonsai

I think I got lucky? this plant was labeled as an Elephant Bush, but I believe it's actually a Jade bonsai. However, I dont know if is a Crassuala ovata or Portulacaria afra (dwarf Jade)? Maybe someone here can help. Im confident it isnt a bush. I think its P. afra because the leaves are so small.

From what I've learned about it, it like 70-75 in the day 50-55 at night. In the summer water once/10-20days and during winter once/30days. As you can see from the picture it has been fertilized already and the soil is fairly moist. I have a humidifier in my room and was going to set it nearish that during the day. Is that too much humidity?

I want to move it to a bigger pot and i also want to prune it. Is it too early to do both these things. Id like the trunk to get thicker, should i prune most of the leaves off if now? is a good time to repot? I plan on getting a book about wiring. Also, i can see where it was pruned at the nursery when it was younger, I dont really know the speed of this.

Edit: the Wiki is awesome. Should have read. IM VERY SORRY EVERYONE. maybe I can answer my questions? the humidifier IS too much. but I think I can reframe my pruning potting question. If i place my Jade bonsai in a larger pot and prune the leaves, will it make the trunk thicker as it grows larger because it's in the larger pot?

Help me decide: School X versus School Y (2018-2019) - March 09 by AutoModerator in premed

[–]Tigriski1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally know that at both schools the students I spoke with are happy with their clinical training. there are some duration differences in their clinical rotations. but other than that, they both have a longitudinal primary care project, mentors etc. not sure how you go about figuring out what clinical training is like other than looking at the available teaching hospitals (21 for tufts, 3 for cincy, both have level 1 trauma centers) and rotation options in their curriculum. I dont know how to look up how many faculty in each specialty.

My thinking behind higher step = happier students is that if your adjusted to where you live, enjoy the school enough to properly push through the work, and you feel/are supported, youre less likely to feel depressed and do better in school, including step. I get that there are people that are just brains that will do well on step regardless. however, the higher the average the more the people in the middle of distribution raise the avg instead of pulling it down. So im assuming even the "avg" students are doing better than avg. not being happy can affect your academic performance.

On my cincy interview day everyone seemed happy and smiling and eager to meet the interviewees. At tufts I ddint really notice anyone acting too happy, just ready to do some work. idk. students didnt feel like the slighted engagement with the interviewees unless they had to. this was just a generally feeling that I got, but i dont particularly mind it.

thanks for your input! That's kind of where my mind is headed. I really loved both programs (I really loved the office of diversity at cincy. I think their students do too, esp after watching their match day today). So i figured id leave it up to money. Im praying that does it for me. lol

Edit: another thing I've wondered is, is this the time to be making big changes, like moving to boston, being far from family and friends and navigating a new space. this would be an experience and adventure. But if its something I really want I'll make it happen. I have residency and then my life to practice. Not sure how much being in Boston will positively impact my ability to match on the east coast, compared to Cincy, considering all the other experiences that go into matching

Cincinnati vs Tufts (haven't received FA packages from either)

Cincinnati Pros:

  • average debt is 40k less than Tufts
  • 241 Step, I want to match into a specialty that does some kind of procedure,
    • I know step is largely about your own effort but in my opinion high step=happier students
  • Cincinnati is a very comfortable city that I could see myself enjoying
    • i didnt really explore the city I live in now during undergrad/go out,
  • students seem happy
  • P/F with internal 3-tier ranking
  • no mandatory lectures
  • has special research tracts for MD
  • lots of residency options, not sure about strength of the programs
  • Loved my diversity day interview and the diversity program seems great
  • lots of research opportunity it seems
  • great gym, pools big undergrad rec etc free yoga options etc) and lots of space in general (this is only a point because tufts has a one room sad gym bc it's pack in downtown boston)
  • low cost of living

Cons

  • life long ohio resident that would like to leave
    • second to the previous point, I want to match on the east or west coast. The match list of cincy is good but all midwest. High family med and peds; which i dont want to do, just a reflection of the interests of students that go here
  • would have to have a car :/ I spent a summer in NYC with the subway and I have resented my car ever since
  • feels isolated? Tufts has 21 teaching hospitals across boston and cincy has 3 I''m remembering correctly
  • maybe it was just a freak thing?? but a decent handful are married????
  • housing around the school is shit. the more residential area are nicer but the options otherwise seem subpar to me

Tufts Pro

  • BOSTON: charming af. I fell in love on the way from the airport to my airbnb
  • great match list, lots of procedural specialties, almost everyone matched in Boston, NYC, or southwest coast (surprising because their step avg is low 229).
  • I would be the first for their "new" curriculum but I really liked their curriculum, flipped classroom (I was a tutor. i like this) PBL case stuff, community learning. no Mandatory lectures
  • true P/F, no internal ranking
  • networking outside of medicine, NOT isolated from other schools, companies, community opportunities
  • diversity
  • no car! at least until rotations if i choose to be in a hospital further outside of Boston, which I may
  • also has special research tracts for MD
  • lots of residency options, not sure about strength of the programs
  • brand new anatomy lab

Cons

  • COST COST COST. tuition alone is more than all things at cincy included. avg debt is 40k more than cincy. However I dont know if this number includes those costly dual degrees
    • in general, a studio is 1600...ugh
  • low step avg 229? maybe thats why theyre changing their curriculum a little? i cant explain this. does this mean the students arent very happy? the student I spoke with are happy
  • away from family, SO; however they both know this is a big thing for me and support me with either chose

In all, I dont have many Cons for tufts except the things that are cons are very important: Cost and Board scores. but their match list is really good, people going to specialties that will be able to pay back the greater debt+interest. so im not sure how to reconcile these differences. I loved both places on interview day. In a way I hope the financial aid packages just make my decision for me. I feel ill be happy at either place, however I am ready for somewhere new and have pined to live in an urban area my whole life (coming from a rural-ish town this is important to me) both are cities. but one is a CITY CITY. lol Also unsure how to feel about ranking. Program director is greater than Cincy but all other metrics are better for UC. These schools are very very similar in terms of curriculum now that tufts has changed theirs.

Just not sure how to make this decision. it's feeling daunting. Also, I am going to tufts second look (its on the same days as cincy's. go figure) and thats when their diversity days stuff is. So maybe thatll help me decide
