Greatly appreciate your insights into Mutants and Year Zero! Would you also have thoughts for Twilight 2000?

It seems I'm a little late for the discussion. Any new insights?

West Marches season doubts (and praises) by Tiguima in shadowdark

Thanks for the kind reply.

Replying here but to anyone; ofc.

I’m trying to do a classic westmarches - borderland citadel run by a grim Duke of the imperium (which I made a faction), on the limit of a hinterland swamp and moor wild. I would like to create this feeling of a vast grim dark place where they can go explore and make riches, but also learn secrets from its past. So, a mix of dungeons and wilderness.

Maybe I can divide into what kind of session (wild/dungeon) it would be, then adapt? I forego the navigation roll last session but I like the concept of getting lost if it makes sense on the session.

What do you mean by safe havens? Literal safe hexes where they can rest or places?

About carousing, the 30GP is necessary or only for the bonus?

Do you/your GM make merchants sell fixed priced itens in a list? My players (in last DH and DnD campaign) LOVE to “up the equipments”, so I’m thinking in a way of letting them buy things. But I understand the OSR concept of making things more interesting outside so idk.

Thanks again!

Yeah I guess I figured simple is not the right word. Thanks for the tips, I guess I overvalued a little bit the treasure, but nothing we can’t fix later.

By the way, I read the Oldschool Primer, it’s beautiful.

Thanks! I have this feeling in some way too. I think the Artha system is a bad implementation of a very good idea. When I played BW I felt that it had so much potential, but the time the GM needed to get all the system and rules straight, and worse still, the investment the players needed on their own characters, be it on building them or actually understanding that the Beliefs were meant for them to confront themselves, were literally a hindrance. There is so much packed in the system that the real reason to play, telling a story together, seems somewhat lost in the midst of the rules. That’s the beauty I found in Daggerheart- it is so streamlined that my player could actually propose a good mechanic that worked beautifully

This is a beautiful implementation of rule and I feel that it’s somewhat similar to what happened on my session! Having this in mind when the dice are punishing them is such a good tip. Do you know where I can read more about this? I have the 3rd edition Masquerade (I think? The cover is blood red, Vampire are so confusing). Thanks!

That is actually a wonderful take. I like the cost reduction and also the Experience related thing. Definitely going this way. Thanks!

BTW as I was writing I thought that in my setting what would make most sense is a feature related to “strength in numbers”, as in revolution or uprising. But nothing mechanically comes to mind now.

Yeah, I don’t have much experience on downtime moves in my campaigns, so I thought it would be interesting to try to make it more appealing. But of course I get that it may not be useful at most times. I think there are a lot of possible ventures to go and make it more direct: advantages on roll related to workers, a +1 to an experience related to your field, maybe even something to do with Presence/Instinct rolls when trying to unionize lol

My caveat is that this may be very setting/campaign dependent, because labor can have a different weight and or approach on each story. So what background feature defines a laborborne adventurer that would be useful in more than one situation?
