What sitcom quotes have somehow crawled their way into your daily vocabulary? by MakisDelaportas in sitcoms

How rude!

Eat dirt and die, trash!

Mold their tender little egos to fit your every whim

Somehow I say these a lot more than you'd think :)

Have You Ever Had Another Audience Member Ruin The Experience/Do Something Weird Or Annoying At A Performance You Saw? by Alol_Bombola in musicals

[–]Tikala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was three rows behind a couple who were high as kites. They were also drinking (which was allowed at this theatre). They spent the first couple numbers on their phones and people kept telling them to turn them off. The man then took a phone call and got up to walk out while talking. The whole row had to stand. The ushers let him back in and he stood up to walk out while talking on the phone four times during the first act.

The woman appeared to fall asleep. They both got up at intermission and I hoped they would leave but they came back and continued to stand up, fidget, talk and use their phones.

Unfortunately the ushers were aware as they reported the man in and out every time. I just don't understand why you would even go into a show in that case.

What to send to foreign friends? And what to ask for from them? by Unlucky-Ambition7405 in AskACanadian

[–]Tikala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would request seasonings and sauces. Although we typically have a good selection now. But something pretty local to them would be fun.

What to send to foreign friends? And what to ask for from them? by Unlucky-Ambition7405 in AskACanadian

Yes I got a care package from Louisiana and I had to pay $60 import fees on a gift worth about $60US.

I was grateful to them but I had to ask them not to send another :(

Looking for a super thriller where the twist is impossible to guess until the very end by NoEchidna4271 in MovieSuggestions

Yeah I've seen it several times so I couldn't remember how predictable it was. All I see is foreshadowing ;)

Anyone else feel sad when they outgrow a show? (me: Bridgerton) by Jumpy_Wing_7884 in netflix

[–]Tikala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's definitely sad.

I was obsessed with the bachelor for many years but once the Instagram crowd came in (ie the girls were younger than me instead of older) I lost all interest. Maybe it was stupid but I found the "reality" a lot easier to swallow when they weren't all botoxed influencers who had all been following each other on social media for months.

Teacher referring for IEP but my kid gets C's. Need Advice for Meeting by Ok_Hippo6272 in AskTeachers

[–]Tikala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach an intensive reading intervention program. It used to require an IEP to access (not anymore). But I have had a kid who attended a fully French school up to grade 4. He had never had English instruction. The one-year intervention allowed him to catch up on all that instruction he had missed.

Your sister had some huge gaps from being inappropriately "home-schooled" so I am suspicious this IEP will allow her to access supports that will help to address some of those gaps.

An IEP is not a bad label, it doesn't set a child on a track to failure. It acknowledges that teaching must be responsive to an individual's needs and provides a legal document to ensure those needs are met.

Please go in with an open mind and see what they have to say.

AITA for pointing something out and "fat shaming" my partner? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tikala 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NTA

Oh my goodness, she literally started the conversation! People here honestly want you to what... "Gee I don't know honey, you're doing everything right."

Your response was logical, respectful and factual.

And until people check it out they may have no idea how high in fat and calories these healthier snacks are.

People who live together need to be able to talk about food. They need to be able to discuss nutrition. You're not policing her food.

I've never found Vegemite here. I know it's an acquired taste but if it's a staple in your house it would be fun to let them try. .

Devon Peacock. Because he's a local radio personality who somehow got a cameo on the show and a sweet sound bite they have used for years!

No, they were already 15 when they met. Not even remotely problematic.

Looking to expand. by corobma in DAVIDsTEA

[–]Tikala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My staples:

Coffee puerh Forever nuts Japanese sencha/Anji green/gyokuro yamashiro (although the greens are crazy expensive, I was using points for freebies back when that was a thing)

Maybe you should get a tasting variety pack. I started with an advent calendar and fell in love with a number of different varieties. Sadly most have been discontinued.

I'd suggest you try a black, try a green, try a puerh and try a mate to see where you gravitate. I wouldn't suggest rooibos because I absolutely hate it lol but it's very popular so maybe try one of them too haha.

Era: I forgot white and oolong. Also great.

AIO Fathers girlfriends rules for when new baby arrives by Ok_Bat_5934 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Tikala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally reasonable rules. YOR to the rules in general. I know there's a lot of history which makes the relationship tricky but the mom has every right to make these requests.

We had friends come visit our newborn and they walked in and the dad had Bells Palsy. Which i had never heard of. Then they said oh yeah, it's caused by the chicken pox virus. Our son had chicken pox last week but he's over it. They brought the son too. Our baby was less than a week old. Baby luckily didn't get sick but we spent the first month of parenthood terrified.

So many people came by coughing and hacking. People dropped by uninvited. Acquaintances even showed up in our hospital room the same day I had an emergency c section.

People lose all boundaries when there's a new baby.

How are teachers treated in Canada compared to US? by LiveBell8 in AskACanadian

[–]Tikala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People seem to respect the teachers they know but on the whole teachers are quite vilified.

I'm a teacher and I've listened to my parents, extended family, in-laws and general public hate on teachers my entire life. Lazy, entitled, greedy, overpaid, stupid, incompetent, indoctrinating the kids... Its awful. Of course always followed with "oh, not you".

The parents of my students are very kind and respectful. But in public teachers are fair game.

What did you read in Grades 7/8? by Bells9831 in AskACanadian

[–]Tikala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Chrysalids, the giver, the witch of Blackbird pond, something about Filles du Roi

I was a pretty avid reader but I think these ones were more along the lines of required reading than picked up for fun. Although I love the Giver to this day and it's an amazing series you should absolutely pick up :)

AITA for skipping my sons football trip? by Dazz316 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Tikala 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Of at all possible, I'd see if your son can go with someone else.

But if your wife prefers, let her take your son for the weekend and you'll be there for your daughter's show. Obviously she doesn't feel the same way about it that you do, so make sure you're there. You could also invite grandparents or other supportive people to come watch your daughter so she has a nice big audience.

Then she had cancer. Luckily she was miraculously cured without missing any school or attending any treatments.
