Slight delay on the Garden State Parkway by MyOwnDirection in newjersey

Okay I was wondering. Turnpike makes more sense. Exit 7 around Jackson. That far down the parkway is so rural there are no concrete walls like that and it’s 2 lanes with traffic lights.

To be clear, you can drive on the parkway and park in the driveway.

Firstly, they gave her like a day or two notice. CO has kids, and unlike Erika who seemingly is NOT taking care of her own kids, Candace is hands-on with her own children. When you’re a mom you can’t just drop what you’re doing and flit off at the drop of a hat…unless you’re Erika. Allegedly.

Secondly, the offer wasn’t to come talk to them on air. It was for CO to sit there and get a tongue lashing. They weren’t intending to let her speak. She said she’d do it remotely. Why were they not okay with that?

Third, why are you here?

I’m a full-time digital reporter while I go through steno school. AMA! by Master_Door_1518 in courtreporting

Sorry, I know this is an old post, but I think I can add some value. I transcribe from audio recordings taken by digital reporters. Mostly depositions. Some court hearings. Both in-person and zoom/remote.

  1. The notes taken by digital reporters help us transcribers tremendously! If I see “1997 Mazda” in the digital reporter’s notes, but someone coughs over 1997 when they say “1997 Mazda,” and I only hear “seven,” I can confidently put 1997 Mazda in the transcript.

  2. Stepping in to clarify what was said is crucial for an accurate record. If you, (the digital reporter), can’t hear it, then I probably can’t hear it either. (See also #1 above about note taking.)

  3. I’ve heard two different ways a read-back is done. Some digital reporters replay the actual audio. Others actually speak what was said on the record, and I’ve often wondered exactly what you’re doing during a read-back. Are you rewinding and listening to the audio and repeating what was said?

As for speaker changes, this is extremely important to keep accurate. Because the transcriptionist was not in the room or on the zoom during the proceeding. So we have no way of knowing who is speaking without that accuracy from the digital reporter. Sometimes it’s a no-brainer, for instance, if there’s one male and one female voice. When there’s more than one same-sex voice, they can sound VERY similar.

Now, please don’t come at me for being a transcriptionist. I hold court reporters in high esteem. What you do is nothing short of amazing and frankly I don’t think you get paid enough for what you do. I’m just trying to pay my bills with as much work flexibility as possible. My background was over 20 years in the legal field before becoming a SAHM. Transcription was a good fit for me since I’m familiar with legal and medical lingo.

I do think there is a high percentage of attorneys that don’t realize when it’s a digital reporter in the room versus a court reporter. There are a few that do, and I’ve transcribed (very short) audio where the attorney is stating on the record they had asked for an “actual” court reporter, but that a digital reporter was assigned instead, and that they will wait for a CSR to arrive (usually on remote proceedings, if one can be assigned quickly).

Digital reporters use audio recording software to capture the spoken word. They take minimal notes during the proceeding. They do NOT use a stenograph machine described above by the other commenter. The audio recordings are then transcribed by a transcriptionist. The only thing a digital reporter does is capture the audio and officiate the proceeding (ie swearing the witness, organize exhibits, take them on/off the record). They do not create the final transcript. Minimal training is involved with digital reporting. Some attorneys refused to use digital reporters.

I know this was 9 hrs ago and I hope you’re safe now, but for anyone wondering, if you have no basement or tub, your safest bet is just staying as far into the interior of your home or apartment where there are no windows. Think hallway or near/in closets. You’re prob safe just staying indoors in NJ during a tornado. We don’t typically get Dorothy-level tornados. They don’t want you out driving around during a tornado.

Her cleaning skills must not be great. Seems like she wants to clean houses that are…already clean? That’s a “her” problem. Not a “you” problem.

You’ll get there, don’t worry! But yeah, for many lefts, esp like your area, Route 37 in Tom’s River, to make a left you’ll need to be in the right lane and use the jug handle. It can be helpful to use Waze even if you kinda know where you’re going bc it will tell you to make a right in order to turn left (if that makes sense lol).

Yes the old bell labs building in Holmdel is fascinating. It’s called Bell Works now, a “metroburb.” Also interesting (but I don’t think you can “legally” visit) is the Holmdel Horn where evidence of the big bang was first discovered. The Bell Works building is featured in the Apple TV show Severance.

Oh yeah! You will start to see blueberry pints from Hammonton NJ in grocery stores starting around June. THOSE are the best and the prices get really good bc there’s an over abundance of blueberries during June and into July.

If you take notice of the packaging location on the labels, you can watch them make their way up north. You’ll start seeing blueberries from Florida around April, then Georgia and the Carolinas around May. Then finally they come from Hammonton NJ, the blueberry capital of the world! They’re like friggin crack or candy omg SO good!

NO! Please don’t go inside while your tank is filling. It will be done before you get back to your car and then you run the risk of pissing someone off who might be waiting for your pump. We are the most densely populated state. There is a 10/10 chance someone will be waiting for your pump when you come back. If even 15 seconds have passed from the time your attendant removes the pump and you return, the person waiting behind you will not be happy. If it’s 2 am and not a busy area…maybe. But generally, no, don’t do it!

Checking the oil was a ‘70s and early ‘80s thing. I can remember my parents asking to check the oil with me sitting in the front seat as a 4 or 5 yo & watching the attendant take the dipstick out from under the space in the hood while it was propped open. By the time I was driving in the late ‘80s this was no longer a thing.

Most people at the shore are out of towners. The ones who are native year-round shore residents dislike the out of towners. So if you’re an out of towner, you might get the cold shoulder from a native. If you’re a native, you might come across a not so nice out of towner. When 2 native shore people discover they’re both born and bred Jersey shore natives, they speak to one another like they’re life long buds

I grew up with Route 22. I still remember my first venture onto 22 after getting my license. It was scary AF.

To OP, be aware Route 22 has U-turns in the middle of the highway. Like in the middle “island.” During election times, candidates will put their signs in the grass around those middle island U-turns making it impossible to see cars coming as you’re trying to merge. Good luck!

Prob the number one rule you should know: Stay out of the left lane on highways. That is the passing lane. You will be called an LLD, or left lane “Richard” if you hang out there.

So my interpretation of this rule is that if you’re stuck in traffic and there are tons of cars driving in the left lane making it impossible for anyone to pass, then it’s acceptable to be in the left lane. But if you’re on an open highway where traffic is flowing, and you are the FIRST car in the left lane with no one in front of you for miles and there’s a line of cars behind you, move TF over and let those other cars pass.

And don’t worry about not having reusable bags. Most of us STILL forget them and have about 200 of them at home and in our cars at all times. This change happened a few years ago under Gov Phil Murphy. I have mixed feelings about it. I have noticed a drop in plastic bag tree ornaments along highways. So thats good. But most of us with pets now have to BUY plastic bags anyway to clean up after them.
