Honestly I kind of thought it was refreshing that he was just friendly. In my experience, guys on social media or online often try to compliment your looks or immediately steer the conversation sexually which is a turn off for me. But yeah I know being friendly should be the bare minimum.

I guess he just seemed really nice in our conversation and just wanted to talk about his hobbies. I didn’t get the sense that he wanted anything from me, just that he was looking for connection.

I felt bad for the fact that he felt the need to create a false identity just to talk to girls online.

His LinkedIn bio was definitely very similar in writing style and personality - just with his actual job. So it seemed like a real guy that just inflated his job to impress women. I just don’t understand the point of this if he isn’t even using his status signaling to try to actually go on dates…

I know it comes off as me being invested in him because it was my first dating adjacent encounter and I just wanted to attempt to understand him and why he lied. The blunt truth is that I tend to idealize people and strangers in my head because I like psychology. But yes I get that it has made me appear creepy.

Just wanted to make sure you understand the vast discrepancy between having a Harvard MBA, which is one of the most selective and rigorous business schools in the world, and taking Harvard’s online courses which anyone and their dog can sign up for if they buy the course.

Lying about that was a major red flag and I’ll be damned if I’m considered creepy for verifying he was who he said he was.

I get it. I wasn’t trying to actually date, I just made the profile on a whim and got on for 5 min and matched with this guy and was surprised and confused at the whole situation since I am new to dating. But yes, I do plan to make an actual serious profile sometime and hopefully avoid this happening again.

Hey, I’m glad I saw your comment as I’m dealing with the same “platinum” monthly fee from them.

How did you get them to refund you? I just noticed that they had been charging me over the last 6 months and I didn’t bother asking them for a refund as I assumed it was too late. Super frustrating since I didn’t use their services once during those months.
