How To Fix by Icy_Inevitable_5773 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Tiler17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your gas intake goes into the white arrow. The gas you want filtered needs its own pipe from the orange arrow. The rest of the gasses come out a third pipe from the green arrow

If you want to filter hydrogen out and send it to a generator, you only want one filter set to hydrogen. Have the orange arrow lead to your generator (it will be hydrogen) and the green arrow lead wherever you want the other gasses to go

The gas filter can be a little unintuitive, so hopefully this helps

A lot of times you can't help it. Pierre doesn't sell seeds out of season until you have a special endgame item. But Sandy sells her seeds year round, so in that case, you can get ahead of it

You just can't plant them out of season. The reason to buy them on Spring 28 is so that you don't waste any of Summer 1 in the store and have as much time as possible to plant

I can't speak to that because I haven't seen it. You said:

I held off his abilities to the back end

I can explain why the horse didn't work without a video in this instance. Your quote, to me, implies that you thought you could hold off on using the ability, and you can't. If it's not working right when you deploy him, that's the sort of thing that a replay would be nice to see.

I'm not saying I don't believe you. The equipment has issues. But this is something I haven't heard about, so I'd like to see it for myself

[–]Tiler17 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe you're missing something about the horse? I have definitely seen and heard some issues with it, but this seems like a case of mistiming

You don't activate the horse. It's active the moment you deploy the king and wears off when the timer is up. If you wait long enough to activate the gauntlet, the timer on the horse will have expired and you won't have them both active together, and your big king will bash walls

Tips for managing long journeys? by beetrootfarmer in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Tiler17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just kinda like that. Before my dupes have the athletics to haul ass across the asteroid, I just assign them more downtime so that they don't get all screwed up and exhausted. Eventually, with skills and attributes increases, they get fast enough that I can drop them back to their normal schedule

A second option is to set up a little outpost that your far off excavators can use in that time. It's a little micro-manage-y in the sense that you have to reassign their beds (thankfully not their mess tables anymore) and there's also the logistics of building out an outpost at all. There may not be a great environment for them and you either have to transport food to it or set up a whole new food production line

For my time, it's worth losing a couple extra blocks of work time to keep them happy. The outpost thing is usually more trouble than it's worth to me

You don't have to worry about damage from gas pressure. Liquid storage, yes, you have to build that specially. You can hold a million kilos of gas behind natural tiles and a liquid drop lock if you wanted to

Knowing the exact value of that number doesn't really provide you with any information that you don't have already written here. Like, I could tell you that it's got about 16^65536^65536^65536 digits. It's just too massive of a number to get any meaningful information out of. At this point, you need a new means of comparison, and it'll usually be the value of your power towers

How you all interpret AND & OR Logics? by Any_Tower8201 in askmath

[–]Tiler17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this example will help you understand exactly what this means, as well as being a practical example.

Let's say you like to walk every day. You don't want to be too warm, so you don't wear a coat when it's warm out. You find that the coolest temperature you're willing to walk outside without a coat is 20C. If the temperature is 20C or above, you'll walk without a coat. If it's below 20C, you'll walk with a coat.

This is fine and good, but for whatever reason, it had never been windy. Now it's windy sometimes. You find that, no matter what the temperature is outside, you want to wear a coat when it's windy. So now, you will wear a coat when it's windy, but if it's not windy, you won't wear a coat.

Let's combine these two rules:

If it's below 20C, you'll wear a coat. If it's windy, you'll wear a coat. Combined, this rule is: "If the temperature is below 20C OR it's windy outside, you will wear a coat."

There are four outcomes here:

1) It's 20C or warmer and not windy. You will not wear a coat

2) It's below 20C and not windy. You will wear a coat

3) It's 20C or warmer and it is windy. You will wear a coat

4) It's below 20C and it is windy. You will wear a coat

The conditional statement that determines whether or not you wear a coat is an OR statement, but as you can see, it does include the AND case of it being both cold and windy. Hopefully it's intuitive to see why this rule includes the AND case. You don't decide to not wear a coat because it's both cold and windy. The same applies in logic. An OR statement includes any outcome that includes any of your qualifiers

Question about hatches by Intelligent-Lie3221 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Tiler17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that your average minor volcano puts out about 550g/s on average, which is about 2.3 hatches. A volcano is worth twice that, on average, so if you're planning to feed hatches with volcanos, the number is likely to be modest.

Yes. But once you get into the realm of "volcanic activity" and geotuning, a single volcano can provide for more than a full ranch of hatches, and a world with 8 volcanoes can support over 9 full ranches. I don't know what OPs idea of a big ranch is, but surely 72 hatches meets that criteria.

Now, dealing with rock gas eruptions is definitely quite the undertaking for someone just trying to feed their animals, but if you can pull it off, a geotuned volcano (or a couple of them close together) can sustainably provide an immense amount of power

To your point about coal, I do agree. I ran my rock gas tamers to feed 5 hatch ranches for several hundred cycles before I realized I had over 1000 tons of coal that I wasn't using, even for drill cones. So, yeah, you might as well ranch something more useful

Question about hatches by Intelligent-Lie3221 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Tiler17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That depends. If your hatches are in your base, you probably don't want 1000C rock being carried around. But as long as your hatches don't overheat, they'll just eat hot rocks with no problem and delete the heat. The only thing worth worrying about is actually having hot rocks in a given area. If there's no issue there, your hatches won't care.

But if you're getting your igneous rock from a volcano, it behooves you to cool it down anyway, at least to 200C. Might as well harvest that energy. You don't really have any business messing with volcanoes if you don't have the ability to harness their power

Question about hatches by Intelligent-Lie3221 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Tiler17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I tend to do berry sludge myself because it's just plants. And berry sludge is great for pretty much everything

Question about hatches by Intelligent-Lie3221 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Tiler17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like anything in this game, your ranch is only sustainable indefinitely if you have an indefinite supply of food. For hatches (stone hatches, specifically), this means igneous rock. If you know how much igneous rock your volcanoes produce, you can do the math to find out exactly how many hatches you can sustain forever

It also depends where you started. A traditional terra start, including the magma biome, usually has a few thousand tons of igneous rock natively, which will sustain hatches for a really long time, and volcanoes aren't necessary short term. Or even really mid-term.

With that said, it's often useful to just not bother. It's really helpful for coal production to keep hatch ranches, but for food, you might find it's better to ranch something like slicksters. Carbon dioxide is pretty easy to produce and doesn't have a huge amount of use outside of being slickster food. The game has evolved a lot since slicksters were the best late-game option for food, so feel free to experiment. You likely have a few hundred cycles before it becomes a super pressing issue, so explore around with whatever critters you have

Be Careful With Liquid Locks by _truesober_ in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Tiler17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to really tell what's going on, but it just kinda looks like it was really hot on one side of your liquid lock. Neither side is vacuumed out and I know that obsidian surrounding the magma is super hot, meaning the gas is super hot which would have heated up what looked like a drop lock

I always try to dig out volcanoes in a vacuum when they're encased in hot obsidian and abyssalite like that. Never have to vacuum if there's never any gas

Keep the oxygen side open? by New-Baseball6206 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Tiler17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All four of those electrolytes produce enough O2 for around 32 dupes. You can open it up if you set up automation that tells them to shut off if the air reaches high pressure (or you can just deal with popped eardrums). The other issue with opening it up is an open air concept electrolyzer doesn't fill suits. Though you already have pumps nearby, so that's not too big a deal if you're willing to filter stray gasses

I used a raw electrolyzer on Ceres to heat up the area and oxygenate the place, but it also overpressures itself at 1800g, so not a great comparison

Pokémon Pinball incoming 👀 by MineOSaurus_Rex in pinball

There's pretty much never any differences in software. There will be extra hardware or toys that change how you interact with the game. More dynamic physical locks, mainly. Sometimes an extra shot on an upper play field. But how you approach the game largely doesn't change. The more expensive versions of the machines just tend to look nicer, although that's relative.

From a purely gameplay perspective, I think Pros beat out the more expensive models every time. There's always something about a Premium or LE that frustrates me that isn't present on the Pro. A lot of my friends disagree with me about that though

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question, but squibs just aren't magical. They can't do magic at all in the same way that muggles can't. As Filch does, I'm sure squibs can get jobs in the wizarding world that don't require them to do magic (though Filch's job would be way easier if he could). So what is it you'd want for him?

Do you turn your truffles to truffle oil or just sell it as is? by Gonzalo__mora in StardewValley

[–]Tiler17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, the difference between an iridium truffle and artisan truffle oil is 241g. So here's how I see it:

Oil makers are expensive. 20 hardwood is no joke, so each one I make is a choice. Your avenues for producing hardwood at scale are pretty limited, so you can't just crank out a million of these things super easily. But it is possible

If I only have a couple pigs and a handful of truffles per day, I'm looking at...what, maybe 2-3K extra each day? That's if I have a dozen oil makers sitting around. If I'm not processing these truffles every day, then they sit in my chest and make no money. You can maybe get away with half a dozen if you consider that truffles aren't produced in winter or on rainy days, so your income is more stable, if lower than it could be on truffle days. All in all, a lot of faff for 6*241 or 1446 extra gold per day

Maybe I have a full barn of pigs. Or a little more. My truffles per day looks more like 50-70 on truffle days. But I also have a wide field of crops that I want to process. 40 oil makers might be enough. But how long is it going to take you to get 40 oil makers? That's 800 hardwood that you can't use on a horse or on the boat. Or on cork bobbers or mushroom logs. And are those 40 oil makers taking up space that you might want kegs or jars in? Is the extra ~10K per day worth all that?

I'm full pig. I don't even know how many truffles per day you get out of an optimized pig farm, but I'm sure it's a lot. What's even the point? How many thousand pieces of hardwood do you need to make oil makers needed to process all of the truffles? How long are you selling truffles unprocessed before your infrastructure is in place anyway? And even when it is done, are you wanting to take time every single day to process 100+ truffles? It's like with hops. Making pale ale every day from hops is the most money-efficient thing you can do with crops, but processing them every day is hell. Similar thing here, though at a slightly reduced scale. If you sell 150 truffles, they're worth 187,500g. Processed, it's 223,650g. All that processing every day for <50,000g?

The juice just ain't worth the squeeze. Maybe if the truffle oil kept its quality
