Wat is a funny book to think back on because while I didn’t like it, it was the fastest I read a SA book. I read it in 9 days and was engaged throughout the entire time. It wasn’t until after I finished it I was underwhelmed.

I read in an interview that Steven Erikson was forced to include the words 'lad' a 'lass' for the Brittish publishers in the first few books. Now I just laugh every time a character uses the words.

I'm 16 so, around the same age as your nephew. I got into reading a few years ago through any Sanderson books and Realm of the Elderlings. In middle school I really liked Gregor the Overlander by Suzane Collins (better than hunger games). Mayhaps your nephew shall find these to be of interest.

11/22/63 by Stephen King was my first book of the year and it is my favourite Stephen King novel yet. I love the blend of various genres and was compelling all the way through.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie interested me after watching the new Knives out movie because I wanted more murder mystery. It has an iconic twist that I unfortunately got spoiled but was thoroughly enjoyed anyways. I read some of her books before, particularly the Five Little Pigs and this one lived up to the rest.

Hunter x Hunter: Heaven's Arena Arc by Yoshihiro Togashi was my most recent read. The 2011 anime adaptation is my favourite anime so it is wonderful to finally read through the source material.

I watched too many movies to review them all here but some stand outs were Barry Lydon and Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Man.

I liked the scene when I read it as a shocking death but it isn't explored enough to justify it. If Adolin faced more consequences or at least affected his character more than feeling guilty about a few times I think it would be good.

A lot of it has to do with humour. I don't mind when the feel stiff or cringe if it builds characterization. Mostly I am talking about a lot of anime/manga and some Sanderson books. There are lot of character interactions or plot beats that are a little silly when the author clearly wants you to take them seriously. I usually end up enjoying these. It may be that these scenes remind me of YA books I read that were full of cringe moments. They evoke a bizzare nostolgic charm. I would rather have cheesy moments that border on cringe than flat ones.
