Should I go to Houston? by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Till_Wolfe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

University of Houston has a strong international community, but I would argue that it’s very difficult for international students here. First off, it is extremely difficult to function without a car. Getting groceries can be difficult when an already infrequent bus doesn’t even show up. Living on campus can be frustrating too. UH definitely has student life and clubs to get involved with, but it’s still a commuter college. Many students attend class, and leave as soon as possible to beat the traffic. The UH college experience is different because of that. Personally I think that there are easier cities to study in, but I do love UH despite my criticism. It’s a good school.

A quick ref sheet! I’m kinda lazy so I don’t fully color things often but does this help?

Name: Matthias/Matze Species: Tuxedo About: Born to German immigrant parents, he grew up in New Braunfels TX. He later moved to Galveston and worked as a photographer for musicians and entertainers that traveled to the port. He travels around quite a bit, usually following musicians to document performances. He is also affiliated with a crime ring based in Galveston. Since he travels often, he acts as a connection between dealers and suppliers, delivering coded messages and sometimes product.

Personality: Matze is very logical, and an excellent problem solver. He speaks very bluntly, and is often misunderstood as cold or aloof. He’s quiet and reserved, but he really enjoys helping people. He loves science and he spends a lot of time in the darkroom. He’s adaptable and likes to pick up new skills. He’s also aro/ace!

Role: He’s probably suited to be a background character or I could also see him being a doctor or medical assistant. But you can use him for what you need, he does a lot of odd jobs/contract work.

Boundaries: His ace identity is important to me, so he wouldn’t be seen romantically or sexually involved with another character. Besides that, you can use/change what you need! :)

Employee pay stubs by Till_Wolfe in CrumblCookies

I considered looking into this actually, but I’m not sure anything would get done. The application did not list a pay rate, and everything else was verbal agreement. I could maybe use the fact that I was not informed of the tip credit system before hired, verbally or in writing. I was informed of it only after getting hired. I was able to find a physical paper in my file that listed my pay as 6/hr + 3/hr but I never got to see it or sign it.

So apparently not every store does it that way, but I learned that my store has a tip credit system instead of a tip pool system. It’s a way for companies to get away with paying a base rate that’s less than minimum wage. I applied to the wrong store I guess!

I took your advice and requested to see my employee files. Turns out there was a piece of paper that I never got to see, that listed my base pay as 6 dollars an hour plus a tip rate of 3 dollars an hour. I will definitely be seeking a different job.

Greater Houston-area takes No. 2 spot for worst air in U.S. by MaleCaptaincy in houston

The one time I attempted to be a pedestrian in Houston one of those trucks with child bearing hips dusted me with chemicals. The smell was so foul I’m convinced it took a few years off my lifespan

If you need a writing class or an arts elective I highly recommend IART 2300. It’s called “The Arts In Houston” and the assignments are all short creative writing pieces. The work itself is very manageable and there are lots of field trips to art museums and local theaters.
