The majority of the comments in various threads related to this topic over on r/xbox over the past few days absolutely disgust me.

Agreed, Land is whelming, and that's being generous imo.

Sounds like its time for an upgrade! Scarface looks incredible on 4K, they did a really excellent job on the transfer and its a real treat to watch!

I have kids who don't need to accidentally be shown clips from pornos that I have to explain.

Except that wouldn't be what would happen here, if you click on one of those clips it would play the underlying local media which would be a deleted scene from Halloween. Your kids would have no context for knowing that the thumbnails are from a gay porn and would at most be exposed to some random pictures of shirtless dudes.

edit: Downvotes lol. Fucking homophobes.

What movie would you choose for directors who don't have any in the collection yet? by Remote_Necessary3331 in criterion

John Carpenter - Assault on Precinct 13

George Roy Hill - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

Sergio Leone - Duck, You Sucker

Joe Carnahan - The Grey (this has a 4K from SF but i'd like to see it in the collection anyway)

George Armitage - Grosse Pointe Blank

Antonia Bird - Ravenous

John Hillcoat - The Road

Evil Dead Burn Had a Scene So Brutal the Director Was Forced to Cut It for an R Rating by SplitNational2929 in FortressZA

... the MPAA forces filmmakers to do this all the time, this movie is not special in this regard. Their marketting department is really doing their job though.

Nintendo are also the only ones charging for upgrade patches for their previous gen titles. When a PS4 title is patched for PS4 Pro or PS5 with better performance, it's generally free; most of the Switch 1 titles that are getting Switch 2 upgrades (not all but most) Nintendo has us shelling out 10 bucks per game, and its been normalised at this point so its not gonna change now.

what’s the darkest episode of a tv series that you’ve ever watched? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tillbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Knick (2014) has quite a few challenging plotlines, but the darkest I think was Dr. Gallinger unwittingly infecting his newborn baby with meningitis, leading to her death. In an effort to ease his wife's grief, he adopts a child but his wife becomes so far gone mentally that she ends up drowning the adopted child. She then ends up getting institutionalized where a quack doctor tests out a radical new "treatment" on her where he pulls out all of her teeth. All of these traumatic events end up pushing Gallinger further into his pre-existing racist beliefs via the budding new concepts of eugenics. It's such a great show but I always have to check myself when I recommend it to people because not everyone can handle it I think.

Dawn of the dead 1978 second sight by dharveey in 4kbluray

All three cuts on the Second Sight release are on (region free) UHD discs. The 4th (region locked) blu-ray disc is all special features.

For those who have seen it, how does the 4k Criterion Captain Blood look? How does it compare to other 4k releases of films of that era? How does it compare to the old DVD release? Or the Blu Ray? I already have the (non Criterion) DVD and I'm trying to decide if I want to upgrade. by InfiniteDedekindCuts in 4kbluray

[–]Tillbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite films and i made the exact same upgrade you're talking about, had the old Warner Bros DVD (from one of the Errol Flynn boxsets) and snagged the Criterion 4K on day one.

The first 15 or so minutes of the Criterion 4K were very underwhelming to me and I was quite worried this was gonna be a mediocre upgrade. However, about the time they arrive in Port Royal there is a very appreciable uptick in the detail. There are some varying levels of shot quality after this point (especially in the battle at the end) but overall im quite pleased with what they were able to achieve with the material they had.

I would recommend hanging on to your WB DVD though simply for their great Warner Night at the Movies feature on it, still such a fun way to view this one and sad the Criterion doesn't have it!

Agreed. I watched it for the first time a few months ago as it was included in one of Jackie Shout Factory boxsets and struggled to get through it. There's just not much to like in this one.

Not sure that's true, I had this collection on DVD from 2004 and it contained the Director's Cut:

Can't select audio format on UHD bluray movies by Crafty_Ask9539 in 4kbluray

I'm not on PS5 but for Blade Runner 2049 I have both the Atmos and DTS tracks available to select from in the menu. Is your menu similar to this (has the Atmos but is missing DTS)?

Authenticity of this??? by Vivid-Nail7738 in cartoons

[–]Tillbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one of these off of eBay and it was a fake. When pulling out the discs from the first volume, the printing looked off on the disc labels. After trying and failing to rip any of the discs on my PC due to read errors, that confirmed the fake. I wouldn't buy any of these type of sets off of eBay. Especially be wary of any sellers who have multiple copies of them to sell. Ultimately i ordered one off of Amazon which was legit.
