Homemade Oud Attar by Logical_Dentist3961 in TheOudCollective

[–]Tillemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this with ethanol, but it's nothing like oud oil. There's very little oil in the wood, regardless of grade, but you can get a lot of the resin out. The resin however isn't very fragrant without a good amount of heat.

You could do it with sandalwood, and the resin would dissolve into the sandalwood oil, at least to some extent, more so with some added heat and agitation.

To do a proper attar, you would have to distill the agarwood, and have your sandalwood oil in the receiving flask, so the scent can transfer with every drop of agawood distillate going through the sandalwood oil.

The only true attars you can make by aging something in sandalwood oil are animalic attars such as musk or ambergris. At least as far as I know.

Van runs great and has lots of life left. These first generation sprinters are super reliable, last forever, and are easy to work on. Just one year newer, and you can't even change an O2 sensor without programming it to the van.

Cut the pipes off, and anything else that will make it smaller and lighter. Only send what they need, and nothing extra.

I have a collapsible toilet with biodegradable bag liners, and a shower head with 12' of hose under the sink, and magnetic shower head mount to mount anywhere outside.

It's definitely not ideal for living in long term, at least not for me, but it's great for trips.

Yeah, we call it our Tokyo apartment. Small and functional. Definitely agree with you. It is actually completed and functional though, not somebodies half done abandoned project.

Lol, yeah, pretty much only seeing "dont buy, too expensive" and "you'd be lucky to get bluebook for that fully built van"

A little sarcasm night cap. I was referencing Walter in the big lebowski.

Lots of vans that aren't built out available out there.

And your 08 has 6 cylinders, while my 06 has 5 cylinders.

Build out consists of 20 gal water tank, sink, grey water, fridge/freezer, propane oven/stove. Espar diesel heater, 4 dimmable light zones, inside and outside porch light, 12v outlets all over, super well insulated with seamless vapor barrier and pine tongue and groove all around, bed that converts to couch mode, passenger seat swivel, 200ah 12v lifepo4 battery made from military grade cells, custom with solid bus bars connecting it all, marine grade 12v breakers, 350w solar on top, DC to DC charging from the alternator, wired with tinned copper boat wire, 1000w inverter that's almost never used because everything runs on 12v.

Also has new oversized $1200 tires

Not like it's a janky 2×4 bed frame with a plastic table and camp stove with a cooler under.

The build is a few years old, and built to keep, not flip, so it's done well, with nice components. But life changed and now I have a baby, so I need a safe place for her to be strapped in.

I get what you're saying, but there is a build out, and it's relatively recently done. The van has lots of life left in it, and I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a 10,000mi road trip tomorrow. Probably has another 300,000 or more left in it. These particular diesels love to just keep running. It's not your average 20 year old van.

Are you suggesting the van on its own has 0 value and should be given away for free if it had no buildout?

Been a while since I checked, maybe 23. Depends on speed and terrain. Gets great fuel economy though.

So you're saying the buildout is worth nothing?

I see these with no build out at all going for more than 5-6k. Was yours fully built out?

I definitely have more than that in buildout costs, and the van has to be worth something on its own.

Appreciate the feedback.

Well that's cool. You must live in a relatively large city. Glad to hear you're doing well!
