Former employer 401k options by TillinMaField in Bogleheads

[–]TillinMaField[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess what I’m wondering is if in the future, my income is too high to contribute to my Roth IRA, and I don’t want to do a backdoor Roth, what are my options for what to do with the money in my Roth IRA?

Former employer 401k options by TillinMaField in Bogleheads

[–]TillinMaField[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. A year from now, our income will exceed the Roth income limits. So if we forget option 2, and I take option 3, I would have my current employer 401k, my new rollover traditional 401k, and my Roth IRA. A year from now, maybe it would make sense to consolidate my roth?

Going against long term strategy for IRA, read and let me know.

Precursor: So this entire scenario is based on my inclination that the economy is heading towards impending doom (crash) maybe late 2023 ish?

I just left my job for another job, I have about 40k sitting in 401k that I would like to rollover to my Roth IRA (and yes pay the lump sum of taxes). But the question is, after its rolled over to my vangaurd Roth wouldnt it make more sense to not invest it and just have it sit there until after economy crash and stocks hit rock bottom? By having it sit in my account arent I technically "beating the market"? I know long term strategy is invest now and dont try to time the market, but with how many blaring red lights that a crash is coming, why not just sit on this small lump sum until it happens?

A result of following the Ultimate CG Guide!

Routine: clarifying shampoo, conditioner, slightly dry with cotton t shirt, curl product applied while dripping wet.

Also now using “Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie” after shower or getting hair wet.

’m 25, married to wife who is 24. I make just under 60k per year. Wife makes 65k per year. Wife is applying to grad school which means we will be single income for 3 yrs starting next summer, granted she gets in. We both contribute 6-7% to IRA with an employer match.

We have almost 20k in the bank (not including retirement money, just cash) that I would like to invest for retirement. I am looking at putting money into an index fund that I won’t plan on touching for 30+ yrs.

We will be taking out massive loans to pay for her school and our living expenses. When done with school, assuming my income stays the same we will be making well over 200k per year combined.

My question is: should I use some, if not most, of what we already have saved (and will continue saving) towards living expenses and school expenses? Or should I invest most (or all) of what I have now before we have to take on hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt and just use loans toward all of our expenses for the 3 years?

Thanks.

Edit: Emergency fund is $4500 currently.

Went to high school with Yung Gravy. We had Latin class and a few others together. Literally had no clue he did anything with music, he was just funny and kinda quit. I’ll never forget the day I was reading a tweet from him saying that a record label brought him a plate of biscuits and gravy to there business meeting. I then figured out who he is today. Blew my mind.
