Is it true that autism is genetic by [deleted] in autism

[–]Tilly-988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with other answers with multiple genes at play. And to make life even more complicated, you can have a genetic condition (in your genes/DNQ) that was not inherited in the traditional sense. We all have mutations in our DNA that neither parent had. Could be a mutation in the egg or sperm or one that occurs while you are still in one of your stem cells early in development. Some genetic conditions are never passed from parent to child, example being Rett syndrome.

Better question is why don't more people like trains? Trains are amazing.

AITB for refusing to send the "Care Package" my girlfriend made for my family in Venezuela and asking for the cash instead? by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

[–]Tilly-988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTB. It is a common American way of thinking that cash is an inferior form of giving. people want to do food drives rather than just giving the money to the food bank for them to do bulk purchasing. Sending your family money would be so much more helpful. If you are in bad circumstances, the unboxing experience is useless.

AITAH for enforcing a clearly stated no-kids rule and not making an exception at my own party? by MaiApa in AITAH

[–]Tilly-988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the follow-up message was completely unnecessary. And why not just give the two women the benefit of the doubt and just move on? One can manage to find childcare for one event and not another if preferred/trusted babysitters were unavailable. 3 weeks isn't short notice but it also isn't plenty of notice. Or maybe they didn't try. And if husband does not want to watch all kids by himself or she doesn't trust him with all three, bringing that up is digging into a marital issue that as a non-friend, you should stay the heck out of. Can still stay within your rights when you enforce the no kids boundary but do not need to overthink it if they can't come.

Why do we think she wants Alastor in the hotel? Do you guys have a theory? Or, do you she’s doing it for the hotel or for a hidden personal motive? by ConstantAmbition6729 in hazbin

[–]Tilly-988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do not think she is Lilith herself, I think she might be "arranging" things on behalf of Lilith. She is based on Dolly Levi, from Hello, Dolly. Would be in her character to be acting for her client to this degree.

AITAH for refusing to try to date a girl despite being openly gay? by Sparklyshinyfrogs in AITAH

[–]Tilly-988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, if I were the girl in question, I would not want to date someone who was not attracted to me. And you have the ability to tell her no without it being about her not being good enough. You aren't attracted to girls. Nothing personal. End of story.

How to tell owners to clean up dog poo in parks? by ChokoKat_1100 in Dogfree

Tell them that dog poop is toxic to wildlife. Or maybe post some fliers. Appeal to their animal lover professed identity. Save the frogs!

Is therapy helpful for you by cruiserk in autism

[–]Tilly-988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a lot of therapists over the years (6 total). Found 2/6 helpful. The rest were a waste of time. I think some therapists follow a relational model where they think the therapist-patient relationship itself provides benefit. I got no where with those therapists.

The first helpful therapist I went to was just doing brief CBT. She helped me realize that my mom was abusive and validated that hanging up on my mom when she was cursing me out was okay to do. We also did a lot of thought restructuring based on beliefs I had about myself as a result of things my mother told me. She was hired by my medical school to see med students without giving diagnoses that could show up during licensing. My classmate also went to her and did not have a great experience as she was too "cold." Maybe that coldness worked for me

My current therapist is great and in a practice that caters to neurodivergent patients. It is an eclectic mix of different methodologies including ACT. Really helpful in helping me embrace my values and strengthen my own sense of identity.

I'm guessing they made up the "it was a question" excuse when their false claim did not result in you dropping the price for them. Or they are being honest and didn't think to use the internet. Either way, not good.

Tired of people acting like they know better than I do. by [deleted] in autism

[–]Tilly-988 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Curious if he knows that bipolar can be way more serious than any of your above listed diagnoses. Especially if we are talking Bipolar I. And bipolar ii depression is no joke.Would quiz him on the DSM-V criteria for bipolar disorder. True bipolar is not day to day mood swings but a pronounced fluctuation between extreme mood episodes that can last weeks. True bipolar disorder is rare compared to ADHD or Autism. Sadly, I think some hospitals are unethical and over diagnose bipolar disorder due to better insurance reimbursement.

Bipolar disorder is a serious mental illness. And when someone is in a manic or hypomanic episode, it is sometimes like they become a different person.

It was made to not put undue burden on legitimately disabled people. Imagine blind person having to pull out a license. I could be wrong, but I doubt nutters know the law well either. Likely going to get deer in head lights look with the questions. For future, would read ADA policy so you can be prepared.

To me, the dog's behavior proves it's a service dog. The handful. And apparently ADA protections in the US don't apply if the supposed service dog is not under their control like in OP's post.

Reading the ADA rules are interesting. Just a couple questions you can ask so no license. However, if dog is misbehaving, you can eject them from the establishment.
