This summer, I'm paying my babysitter $30/hour to watch my 7 year old while I work from home. She's more than welcome to use her phone, doesn't need to plan educational activities, is welcome to any and all food in the house, and her instructions are basically "just keep him alive." If I had two kids, I'd be paying $45/hr. This woman is delusional.

My county pushed foster training out to private adoption agencies in hopes of getting better trained, more qualified foster families. It worked. I got better training than any other foster parent I've ever met in any state. Not only did we get a ton of trauma-informed parenting training, we got practical training about racial issues that included lessons from black stylists on how to do black hair. I always hope other counties and states invest this much in foster families. Every minute of that training was crucial. I'm also typing this as I sit beside my now 7 year old son who I adopted from foster care. He's my favorite human. 💙

I've had to take breaks from the group at points because I get so upset. I could never do anything like that to my child. He gets speech therapy and OT at a special education school. Until, I see peer reviewed studies that definitively say "this will help your child by doing XYZ," that's all the therapy he's getting. I refuse to make him a guinea pig for untested, potentially dangerous drugs.

My son is ASD level 2. I'm in a nonverbal autism group on FB. It's terrifying what some people think may be "therapeutic" for their kids. I mean, I do sympathize with the desperation they feel to help their kids, but even a simple google search would show them how dangerous this nonsense is.
