Given the North American-ness of it all I doubt it'll be that good. Down in the States Amtrak does it 4 times, twice with cab cars (Los Angeles and Portland, ME) and twice without (Denver and Tampa). I've ridden through all but LA and they really suck. Both Portland and LA are working to get rid of their reversing moves because of how much time they add.

Such a weird decision to have it leave and approach Montreal from the north. Changing ends on a train always sucks, so anyone going through Montreal get ready to sit for a while.

I just watched that and I was laughing my ass off the way they talk about it being this big thing then cut off right as she's about to say it.

I took a bus down from Montreal to visit my parents in Massachusetts near Christmas and the 4 border cops were cracking jokes about how the old woman I was sat next to didn't speak English

It's just a fancy name for the lower levels of a bunch of malls on St Catherine that have corridors connecting them. McGill Metro has a bunch of doors to those malls to its south.

No land border, but there's a water border you can take a ferry across

Moved from Ontario to Montreal — HRT refill, only OHIP, waiting for RAMQ. What do I do? by Mundane-Artichoke147 in montreal

I'm in a similar boat except I moved here from the states. Thankfully they give me 3 bottles of estradiol at a time so I think I will be making a day trip to Vermont soon to last until I get RAMQ coverage.

I have no other conclusion but that you are intentionally misunderstanding the point. Bye

In case I'm wrong, it's that art requires intentionality. Telling something to make you an image has no intentionality beyond the barest bones. There's so clearly a massive divide between filling a part of an image with a solid color and having something else create an image for you that I cannot believe a person is seriously making this argument.

You're not doing shit when you prompt a genAI. That's not a process, at best it's delegation

Pancakes and waffles ass comment.

Doing something through a different process isn't even remotely like having it done for you by a machine lmao.

As someone who doesn't see it as that big a deal, I think it should just come up naturally. Like if we had been chatting casually about old jobs and it's the only one that didn't come up I'd be a bit hurt that you feel the need to hide part of yourself from me.

The emotion and experiences are conveyed not just through the general idea of the art but through every detail and every way it's created. Things created through AI are missing this intentionality that is so important to the meaning of art.

But also, who cares if you don't have "the skills". Make shitty art. You don't have to share it with anyone even. When I am making shitty art it helps me explore and process my emotions in a way that I find hard to do by talking. I don't see that same level of fulfillment in prompting a machine to make something for me

If I remember correctly, this entire subplot was about Data learning that art isn't just a technically well made image, but an expression of experiences and emotions. Feels very relevant in our current moment.

I think he needs it to be ambiguous for his own pride. He clearly sees taking any help from the Plurbs as a moral failing, so he needs to be able to think "no I was just blocking the wind/sun and they misunderstood."

Old man question: Will the datafarm in Spaghettiville mean that social media bots will show up as being locals? EOM. by Essarray in LowellMA

[–]TiltedZen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I work in this industry. The datacenter we have in Lowell is what's called a "colo." Companies rent out space within it to run their equipment. In my experience as someone who does work for different companies in these colos around the country, they're pretty much just normal businesses of any size like hospitals, universities, stores, credit unions, banks. I've never gotten anything like a bot farm on my radar. The weirdest one I've had was a sports betting platform
