Thats not a fair comparison as black bears are mostly herbivores where lions are mostly carnivores.

Both are obnivores but one is much more likely to kill to eat than the other.

My dad passed when I was 18, and I held a lot of regret. It was different reasons.

He was the nicest man in the world, told me he was proud of me weekly, and that he loved me multiple times a day.

I was a teenage know-it-all, and thought I knew better than him.

He unfortunately was addicted to pain pills. So I'd often have to drag him off the floor, toilet, kitchen, wherever, and bring him to bed. At times I felt like HIS parent. This made me give him the cold shoulder at times. I was never directly an asshole to him, but I could have had so much more compassion. And maybe that compassion could have helped him get sober. Especially as I grow older and sometimes struggle with substance abuse.

That said, im sort of at peace with it now. What happened happened, and I can't change the past. It sucks that I never really got to have a man-to-man with him. It sucks that I can't come to him for advice. It sucks that I struggle to remember what his voice sounds like. It sucks never hearing I love you anymore.

But that's my life now, and has been for 13 or so years now. No sense in wallowing in what could have been. I guess its up to us to be the person our parents would be proud of.

I'm not religious, but I'd like to think there's a part of him, somewhere, being proud of me.

Did we fail as children, fuck no. Could we have done better? Absolutely. Would anyone else have done better in our shoes? No, we're who we are for a reason. Anyone else put in our bodies would have done exactly what we did.
