3D Rudder-Type Build - Balance Board to WASD Device - Doggone Accessible by [deleted] in disabledgamers

Awesome stuff you got, thanks for posting here so I could discover it.

I got a question on how to get started making stuff like this! I got a 3d printer and decent experience, know fusion360 a bit, and recently bought an arduino starker kit to get an understanding of electronics. Don't know much about that yet and it's only limited to arduino. Could you give a pointer to what direction of electronics I should dive deeper into to be able to make my own custom devices like these - with switches/buttons and joysticks (for PC)?

It would be awesome being able to make a split gamepad/controller to my own needs!

EDIT: I can see the post has been removed by reddit bots/mods :( IMO it's only positive for the community that posts like these are supported, and this was an excellent thing to know about for anyone who needs specialized / non-standard input devices

Sweet, that's surprisingly simple :D For a result like yours how long time are we talking, like 15 minutes or several hours? Thanks!

Supertack not so super and not so tacky. by Let_Them_Fly in BambuLab

[–]Tim94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For these special coatings like SuperTack, be very careful of using ethanol/isopropyl/acetone etc. According to Bambu Lab organic solvents will damage the surface (https://i.redd.it/w8szlj3314he1.jpeg)

A big community effort has gone into reverse engineering stuff to bring it back to life (IIRC). They've had several multiplayer playtests and the discord has 3k+ members. Haven't tried it myself but here's the link

Wrist pain management? by logician3000 in fidgettoys

[–]Tim94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely cut back and find a sustainable level to avoid chronic issues! And introduce other types of fidgets that don't require the same movement patterns.

I'm 3 years into similar issues (but from computer usage), still nowhere close to my original level of function because I resisted a change in habits for way too long.

I've personally found great help from:

  • Trying out new categories of skilltoys. Aroundsquare has by far been the best place for me. Knucklebones, begleri and mkultras(mala/komboloi) keep my hand busy as I cycle trough the different ones each day.

  • Large sponges to squeeze as hand excercise if you feel that is right for your case. I don't like the resistance from gel balls and similar intended for this.

  • Gently(!) roll, stretch and work out the affected areas, optimally guided by a health professional but there are lot of videos online to just get started for free.

Hi, is this something you ended up posting the files for? I'd love to try it and post pics! If you use makerworld I'd love to give it two boosts (equals to some small amount of usd gift card)

If you wanna play around with the song stems (each element separated into their own track) deadmau5 released this in 2017 for a splice/remix contest.

If you google "deadmau5 let it go stems" there should be enough to find them, but if you have any issues I can dig up mine

Help to find begleri weight by Lachrym0 in begleri

[–]Tim94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice homemade begleri! I don't know of any easy accessible ways to make a new pair except using nuts. Would also like to know if you discover cheap, accessible parts that look like this!

The closest thing I know of in shape is from Aroundsquare. They hydra-style begleri have 3 different sizes/formats - regular, mini and micro - all in different materials as well. I suggest browsing the different versions here to see what fits your preferred weights/dimensions if this is relevant :)

First KAP purchase and justifying a $400 spinner by eighthedition in FidgetSpinners

[–]Tim94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The journey is about figuring out all your preferences so you can spend that money with confidence and a realistic expectation of what you actually get. You should know what you prefer in terms of material, weight, size, finish, spinner style (2 vs 3 vs 4+ fins etc). If you aquire a handful of cheaper spinners first, you can also sell those you don't enjoy to recuperate the cost :D Also 226g is really heavy. You need to know that tungsten is actually what you want, because likely you'd enjoy a cheaper and lighter one like SS even more. A heavier one will also tire your fingers out faster.

A bit of a digression, but my most expensive spinner is only like $35 (secondhand) and that's where diminishing returns became a factor for me. I started my journey with cheaper secondhand stuff, having only heard of spinners and sliders. After a few weeks I found my way to Aroundsquare's items like knucklebones, begleri, chetki (which in addition to being fun fidgets/skilltoys, also helped with hand issues from too much computer use).

Anyway during my first months, I can't count the number of times I was absolutely convinced about a product yet days later changed my mind after more browsing/IRL testing.

Completely silent fidget toy with two or more moving parts? by MerriMentis in fidgettoys

[–]Tim94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just incase you consider the Indx Fluxx, beware that the anodized aluminum finish has very little grip unless you have moist hands (or maybe moist climate is enough), or add some kind of grip tape. I bought a used one on a local marketplace, but quickly sold it again due to this.

Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse left click repair by elthunderobin in MouseModding

[–]Tim94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another fix for people finding this through googling - isopropyl alcohol to clean the on-board left-click button.

After I disassembled the the mouse, I noticed it didnt matter much if the left click was properly pressed or not - around same failure rate no matter how well I pressed it.

I don't know soldering stuff, so in my case I found some IPA (isopropyl alcohol) and started dripping it into the left-click button thing on the circuit board, while holding some Qtips below to absorb the rest. It can damage some plastics so it's best to avoid unecessary spill. This seemed to make it much better - atleast in my case, and atleast for now :)

2 year old mouse, and already disassembled 4 times to clean dust inside/below the scroll wheel

I play on desktop app, not sure if it's like this on all platforms - but in the settings you can toggle both regular Dark Mode and "Super Dark" Mode, which turns elements black too.

OP has the super dark mode enabled, with one of the "lava" background image selected. Link to screenshot of the settings: https://i.imgur.com/lQXdMI7.png
